Military decorations are important because they enhance a soldier’s career when he’s being considered for promotion, or a school, or an assignment.

When decorations are not awarded, the soldier whose deeds merited it is short changed and handicapped.

Also, when individual soldiers do receive recognition, it reflects positively on that soldier’s unit and his chain of command.

Yes, we do need to root out the traitors among us.

How do we do that when everything is governed by misguided “political correctness”?

Awarding proper combat decorations to those personnel who earned it will be an official acknowledgement of enemy action on the domestic front.

That, in itself, will give impetus to combatting terrorism on the homefront.

With all due respect, F#$k the medals! They’re not going to bring anybody back. We need to concern ourselves with the reality that we have traitors living among us. The best medals we could bestow upon these brave soldiers is that we put an end to this madness.

Regarding firearms, If anyone reading this is a soldier in a U.S. Military Base and you can carry a sidearm, do so now.

Right now, what concerns me most of all is will our military casualties at Fort Hood, Texas be awarded the Purple Heart Medal, and will the civilian casualties at Fort Hood, Texas be awarded the Defense of Freedom Medal?

Clearly, their wounds were a direct result of enemy action during a time of war.

When carrying out his mission, Nidal Malik Hasan was a Muslim acting as a Jihadist in direct support of and in sympathy with Al Qaeda and Taliban military operations.

Further, because it was an enemy action, soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas should be entitled to receive Hostile Fire Pay, at least for the month of November 2009, and they should be authorized to wear their unit insignia on the right sleeve of their uniform.

Depending on individual merit, several soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas probably should be awarded the either/and/or the Silver Star Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Medic Badge, and the Close Combat Badge.

The major hindrance to this will be misguided bureaucratic “political correctness”.

So, we should begin NOW to contact and exert pressure on our Congress and the Department of Defense to ensure these rightfully deserved military decorations are properly and promptly bestowed.

There’s nothing unusual about soldiers possessing personal firearms.

When I was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, I had personal firearms, which when off duty, I usually carried in my personal vehicle, or stored in my quarters.

Fort Hood, Texas has a Rod and Gun Club, Military Police are assigned to Game Warden patrols, and soldiers and military retirees go hunting and fishing there.

That’s true of probably every military installation in the United States.

Of course, that was many years ago.
