My point exactly, KVL. We need to teach our daughters not to “fall for the bad boy” by teaching them not to go for the Hollywood version of marriage. It’s not all moonbeams and roses and the American idea of dating is high risk behavior especially since we expect them to defer nature until a ridiculous age so they can pursue jobs and education. We think it’s ok to kick them out of the nest half formed at 18. It’s not. Even in cultures like religious Judaism, they get the kids married off young and then SUPPORT them a few more years until they are fully ready. They understand the difficulties of physical maturity during the teen years and deal with it more effectively than the secularized and non-Jewish members of society. We need to get back to thinking beyond the nuclear family.
You can’t excuse a girl because “she’s only human.” That’s the toxic part. To think, “oh she’s only human (even if not fully formed yet) and we’ll just figure out how to pick up the pieces if she makes a mess.” NO! You’re dealing with 3 human beings minimum here and it’s’ a matter of values being instilled. This is where I failed with my daughter. I didn’t equip her well enough to do what I did, resist the advances of some guy who wasn’t ready to commit and who would have murdered his own child except she had the strength to go thru with the birth.
Now I have a granddaughter in Canada I will probably never know (due to circumstances) even tho it was a semi open adoption. I am sad that I failed my daughter and ultimately this granddaughter but I will always love my daughter even more for having the moral courage not to abort.

Too bad you chose to simply repeat the AP story here. It would have been a far better post had you read the book yourself. All you have done now is to present yourself as ‘fixed in one place’ mentally. With nothing that Palin says or does changing your opinion in any way. That is a pretty tough way to go through life.

Meantime, apparently this book is NOT about the campaign as much as it is about policy. And clearly, what we have heard very little of from Palin is policy. Last years campaign was about McCain’s policy, and as a VP candidate, it was Palin’s job to support him.

I have no idea if I will like Palin’s policies or not at this point, but at least I will look with an open mind.

What makes you think she’ll surround herself with good people? One of her biggest weaknesses as Governor was her failure to place competent people in her administration. From AGIA to ACES to the state run dairy to her expansion of government (quite a string of conservative programs) she left a staggering record of failure due to her and her staffs incompetence. This all happened in just the past three years, what makes you think she’ll be any different as President? Do you people even look at how she performed as Governor?

To the Palin supporters: people, she is not intellectually serious enough to support 3 years before the election. I mean, if we must choose Hussein or Palin, that’s one thing. But I think we can aim higher.

I’m willing to take her more seriously, but she really has to provide some evidence of competence.

Could she get elected? Maybe. I mean, Hussein did, after all. The Dems could have said that if the Reps get so hysterical over The One, then The One must be a great choice!

Look, Obama is not too bright, even if he’s black, which we all know means he must be brilliant. Palin, as far as we know, is not too bright either. Looks can be deceiving (Reagan was much smarter than he appeared), but merit must be demonstrated.
