Over time, you get newsrooms, academic departments, government agencies, as well as other institutions, with stunning levels of ideological uniformity. Also, these people, especially at the highest level, such people only socialize and mingle with the like minded. It can be a deeply disturbing experience to meet people who hold substantially different views than their own.
