Un-PC “Song” of the Day: “Pants on the Ground”

By Debbie Schlussel

If you’ve been paying attention to the latest season (Season 9) of “American Idol” (and I haven’t–that show long ago jumped the shark), you’ve already seen this.  But for the rest of us, you gotta see this funny audition by “General” Larry Platt, who was apparently some sort of figure in the civil rights movement in the ’60s (and was part of radical groups like SNCC).  He “sings” (a very charitable term) “Pants on the Ground,” a rap mocking the culture in urban America, where pants are so low they’re constantly falling to the ground (see also here), where people where stupid-looking gold and jewel-encrusted “grills” in their mouths, and where they look stupid with their baseball hats turned to the side.  He, um, “touches” on each of these.

Get the right size belt and tighten it. If you wear exposed underwear by habit, you’re showing yourself to be a low class person. Is decency as a habit really that hard to carry forward in this country?

The Dumbing Down Of America continues.

It makes having sex with fire hydrants and telephone poles easier in urban areas.

Pants on the ground, pants on the ground, looking like a fool with your pants on the ground. I can not get this song out of my head now…thanks Debbie! This guy is awesome, that’s all I can say.

I still can’t decide which is the bigger dumba$$: a hip-hopper with their ‘pants on the ground’ or a Guido. Decision, decisions… hmmmmm….

Larry is now my hero!

For anyone who doesn’t know, the droopy pants style comes from the prison system, where belts are taken to avoid suicide attempts, thus the sagging pants. I’ve also heard low pants exposing your buttocks meant you were some other prisoner’s b*tch.

Glorifying and intimidating prisoners. Great isn’t it? Also notice the word RAP is homonymous with “bad RAP” and “RAP sheet” ( I can see Michael Jackson turning the word “bad” to mean “something good” but this is has gone too far.)

Away with the filthy c(rap) “music” and coarsing of our culture! Parents and America wouldn’t have stood for this just a few years ago!

Thanks for posting this Debbie! Hoorah Larry!
