Glad you quoted Jefferson. You see, he considered Islam a tremendous danger precisely because its totalitarian nature, exemplified by its rejection of freedom of religion. That’s why Jefferson owned a Koran–he wanted to study it carefully to know the enemy.

Of course, you have never really read any Jefferson. I suggest the Portable Jefferson if it is still in print. It’s not very portable (being big), but it has a nice selection of Jefferson’s work.
