I have been a leader for 8 years and the liberal tone of Girl Scouts has always been there , but it has been mild and able to ignore. We have gotten pressure recently from council to use the Journey books. I picked up the Journey books last week and read the first one until my eyes bled. The liberal tones were no longer mild, they now scream. There is no more interest badges for the girls to explore things that interest them such as sports or crafts. They have been replaced with activist actions that are rewarded with badges. The book I read suggests that girls watch Al Gore’s movie and spew false global warming “facts”. They are told not to eat meat and to spread this idea as cattle take up too much grain and space and we can plant grain in those areas to “feed the world”. Its disgusting and shameful, this is not the Girl Scouts I grew up with . This will be my last year as a leader as I will not be responsible for filling the heads of young girls with these lies and agendas. The books I got will never see the girls as they will be burned.

THIS IS NOT GOOD. Seriously, marriage isn’t bad, I mean when a couple is married, they actually work together to solve their problems and stuff (unless one of them has cheated then that’s another issue) and men are not really bad, i thought they were supposed to promote gender equality, instead, they’re making men look evil, not all men are evil or something, there are still good men like that random guy who opened the door for you without expecting it to happen or that guy who bumped to you and even helped you put the stuff that you have dropped back together. Not all guys are mean. This is going out of hand, I mean, come on, they’re spending too much time talking about sex like it’s our only purpose in life when we still have a lot of more important things to do than that like finish high school, get a college degree and get a decent house and a job. I mean abstinence (in sex) is more easier than having to go on diet and give up those foods that you used to enjoy eating. My point is, there are so much things that are more important than having sex but of course, parents have to teach their daughters how to stay safe from rapists and the like and tell them that there are more important things in life than having sex at such a young age.

Well aside from the last few comments, this is yet another argh things are changing and we don’t like it whingefest.
I mean how very dare an outdoors organisation have concerns about the environment and wish to have its member try and change things in small but potentially effective ways.
Oh and lets not educate children about ways to avoid pregnancy should natural urges manifest themselves. Lets keep them in the dark and teach them sex is a bad, bad thing, you’ll go to hell for even thinking about it.
After all why would we want women to think for themselves and form their own opinion, no, we should just teach them how to be good housewives and housekeepers.

I don’t know about the troops where you live, but troop #359, where I am a Cadette, has never learned how to masturbate, and the only time we have talked about sex was the whole, “If you get raped and aren’t comfortable with telling your parents, tell one of us (troop leaders)”. Yes we do things to learn how to reduce, reuse, and recycle, but we learn all that in school any way. My silver award project was a pet supply drive. Girl Scouts is a wonderful organization IF you have the right troop leaders. Something tells me you got kicked out of GS and now you’re getting revenge. We learn about religious tolerance. We live in a small Christian town and we understand that when we get out of here we shouldn’t shun others because of their religion. At least compared to Boy Scouts we aren’t going to be the people who start protests at a soldier’s funeral because they were homosexual. We participate in something called AngelWorx, where the little girls color pictures and the older girls deliver them to hospitals and nursing homes. We go Christmas Caroling for Hospice patients, and we learn how to do complete matinence on a car. We even have a Women in Math and Science confrence every year for non Girl Scouts. All the cookie money goes to local councils and there is actually a rule that bans us from raising money for other organizations. It has been temporaraly lifted though so we can raise money in partnership with Red Cross for the earthquake victims in Japan. We went camping last summer in Indiana weather. Learn the facts before being such an idiot.

This whole blog and all the comments are based on B.S. I have yet to see any real proof that any of these accusations are true. My sister is a leader and she is boiling after seeing this. Right, we don’t eat meat here in the heartland! I live in a very, very conservative part of the country. If any of this were true, it would be in the “real” news. This idea that there is some media conspiracy to hide the news about the Girl Scouts reflects the hatred I see on the Internet and the amount of people who want to believe it b/c it fits their warped world views.

Now at the 11th hour she has been informed there are no facilities in Texas that Shelby can go to . This gets worse , She was also awarded for her service this year , for questioning this they have stripped her of her volunteer work , and have as of yet to give her the award she was to receive , i happened to be at that meeting . I am so proud to be a leader what we can do to change the course of a child’s life is beautiful . Please stop this , I have investigated this and am willing to get you anything more you need , in my research I found our GS had been investigated by ABC news in 2008 , the same year Shelby started . Melody- you are the only sane one on this site. I am a girl scout leader and teach my girls about their unique abilities and talents, and how they can use that to “make the world a better place.” Debbie S, you are a WACKADOO!!! I was trying to get helpful info to teach my girls about diabetes education, and I ended up at this joke of a site instead. It will never happen again.

Not really sure why you are all being hateful about Girl Scouts. I was a Girl Scout and now my daughter is one. All I have ever learned from Girl Scouts and what my daughter is learning about is how to be: Honest and faithful, Considerate and caring, responsible for what you say and do, courageous and strong, and other positive character building items. I have never, nor has my daughter, been educated on masturbation or planned parenting. We have never been told that eating meat is wrong. We have learned that you need to take better care of the place we live (city, state, planet), but not in a forceful “greenazi” way.

I do not see what is wrong with teaching positive character traits or how to take better care of where you live.

People either like Girl Scout Cookies or they don’t. There are a lot of sweets in the market today. You chose what you put in your body; no one else does.

You should all take your hate some where else.
