OUTRAGE: Your Tax $$$ Fund Arabic Lessons For Islamists

By Debbie Schlussel
Remember President Bush’s January announcement of his foreign language instruction initiative–the National Strategic Language Initiative?
He announced it at the U.S. University Presidents Summit on International Education. It sounded like a great concept that would help our country fight terrorism.
The idea was to spend our tax money wisely, by funding instruction in Arabic, Farsi, and other languages in our public schools. Skilled speakers and readers of these languages are badly needed as future federal law enforcement agents, analysts, etc. to help us fight the war on terror. Ideally, non-Arabic, non-Muslim Americans would learn these languages and grow up to be reliable translators that our government badly needs.

Good Idea Gone Bad:

President Bush Announces National Strategic Language Initiative

Currently, there is a backlog in translation of documents in these languages at the FBI. Worse, Islamists who hate America, but love Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, and Hamas, are utilized as translators by the FBI, CIA, DHS, and other agencies. Often, their translations cannot be relied upon, because they are trying to cover up their terrorist buddies’ real plans.
Problem is, the money is NOT going to regular Americans we can rely on to grow up and support this country in its efforts in the war on terror. Nope. Instead, YOUR TAX MONEY IS GOING TO FUND ARABIC LESSONS IN DEARBORNISTAN!
A tiny story in today’s Detroit Free Press announced that of two federal grants going to the State of Michigan under the National Strategic Language Initiative, only one is to teach Arabic (the other teaches Chinese). And it is going to America’s only Islamofascist dominated public school district–the Dearborn Public Schools.
Aside from bringing to mind the phrase about “shipping coal to Newcastle,” this is an outrage.
Aside from the fact that Arabic is already offered in the Dearborn School district, I’ve noted over and over again, the City of Dearborn is dominated by Islamists. Thousands of its residents are extremist Muslims who openly support Hezbollah, HAMAS, Islamic Jihad, etc. This summer, saw repeated rallies of at least 10 percent of the city in support of these groups.

Hezbollah High: Fordson Principal Imad Fadlallah is Hezbollah Spiritual Leader/Terrorist Mohammed Fadlallah’s Cousin

I’ve also noted the types of schools where this money will be spent. At Dearborn’s Fordson High a/k/a “Hezbollah High,” principal Imad Fadlallah is a cousin of Hezbollah spiritual leader Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah.
Fadlallah took at least a week off of school at the beginning of this school year to go to Lebanon–reportedly to attend Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah’s celebrations of Hezbollah’s “victory” over Israel. In 2005, he allowed students at Fordson–the nation’s only Muslim-dominated public high school–to get time off from school and get extra credit for campaigning at the polls against Christian candidates running for Dearborn offices, in favor of Muslim ones.
And then there’s this choice quote from him in an AP story:

Nowadays, I have a very, very hard time defending American democracy. . . I can’t defend anymore.

Is this the kind of school district where our tax dollars should go to teach Arabic?
Only if we want to help our enemy within defeat us.
Gail McGinn, Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Plans and Senior Language Authority, announced the grant, saying:

It’s important to encourage students to study this, for their future, for their job opportunities and for their individual growth.

Wrong. This money is for America’s future, for its future national security. That’s why it’s part of the Defense Department, which isn’t in the individual growth biz. And that’s why it’s not a good move to include the students in this particular school district in this important, now-squandered program.
Dearborn is getting a three-year $885,975 grant from the Department of Education, PLUS an annual $1 million grant from the Department of Defense. Absurd. Almost $6 million of your taxes wasted–and worse, used to educate kids who aren’t the most pro-American in languages we need patriots to learn.
This money would be better spent in an average non-Arab, non-Muslim community in Middle America, not populated by those who hate us. So why isn’t it going there?
National Strategic Language Initiative? Nothing strategic about this move.
Unless it’s our enemies’ strategies we’re pursuing.

I’m not surprised one but at this story. Severe oversight sounds necessary.
The standard college-level Introduction to Arabic textbook is al-Kitaab (“The Book” – Brustad, al-Batal, al-Tonst, eds.):
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbninquiry.asp?isbn=158901104X&TXT=Y&itm=4
In its DVD portion, the character who walks you through the lessons, “Maha”, is tall, skinny, and blond Egyptian, with pale eyes and fair skin. And in an older version of the text, one section students had to memorize showcased another Arab character talking about “Mark, my Israeli friend….” (I’m surprised the DVD doesn’t have a video of John Lennon singing “Imagine”!)
IN MY ARABIC CLASS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN, THERE WAS NO ISRAEL, ONLY “PALESTINE” ON THE MAP AND IN OUR LESSONS AND TEXTBOOKS.

Debbie,
This is OUTRAGEOUS! How is it that our so-called legislators and senior administration officials disregard this blatant mis-use of OUR money? And why is it that the only way are informed about “Dearbornistan” and its actiivities are found in places like this Blog? Geez, the barbarians are inside the frickin’ gate….

OMG! I expect introductory foreign language instruction to be loaded with kitsch, but not extremism. Even the Kitaab text would be an improvement. That must have been an appalling experience.

I am not sure I understand this
Do not we need arabic speaking FBI/CIA agent so that we can track the terrorist. I would think it is a good thing that we are finally putting money into our weakness.
What is your issue Debbie exceot having hatred for anything logical

Debbie seems to be forgetting her own little expose on the Bush Islamicists: http://www.debbieschlussel.com/archives/2006/02/somethings_rott.html
Is it any wonder that on September 12th five years ago the only ones allowed to fly in Amerikkka was the bin Ladens???

Great job Debbie. I was hoping you were wrong.

thirdgoat,
The point of the post (a no-brainer) is that a federal program does not equate with strategic, effective implementation … not, that is, without zealous oversight and evaluation every step of the way. It’s a rather non-partisan pitch for good, bipartisan government, but if it smells like red meat to you….

Once again our girl says it straight and right on the money. We love you Debbie.
Yo Third goat–your point(?) that we don’t need to track terror suspects– oy–are you just trying to sound stupid or what? You want no checking of anybody right? So your buds can spread like cock roaches out of the light of day to do more “martyrdoms,” right? Do you want us to disband the police and the armed services too? It would free up some cash for your social handouts….

Thirdgoat
What is the logic of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to teach a language to people who already know it, who hate our country, who sympathize with and support the enemy, and give them oversight of the funds?
In this case, the emporer has no clothes. I’m glad somebody outside of Dearborn notices this stuff. Thanks Debbie!!!!

the sad thing is that these kids wouldnt even know it if they were terrorists. like reichjunge they have been inculcated into diverting any real thought to hating israel. its like an elephant that as a chikd has a huge chain on its leg so eventually it stops trying to escapre, then as an adult it can be help with a string and if it feels the slightest resisitance it stops trying. this is how arabic kids are taught about israel.
do they teach geography at fordson? maybe something about how islam stretchs from morocco to micronesia but israel is the size of the tri-county area?!!
I’m not german, christian, arab, jew whatever, I’m an American Human Being and I don’t need to hide behind ethnicity or defend my precious ego from anyone.
Are you in the least surprised that these kids arent getting the point and immmediately trying to attack back? They just don’t get that they are playing right into whatever stereotyping there is out there? Its like Benedict saying muslims are violent and then they go out and kill a nun.
Its not that the entire religion is evil, its that there’s no reaction from within the religion and then what are people to think?
Back in the olden days people came to America to get away from all the old grudges and hatreds of the old world. Now they think its the first thing to do once you get cable and internet.
No one has a problem with Dearborn they have a problem with those certain individuals in positions of power that could be doing something by publicily denouncing the acts of the few within their community, instead they react as if WE have the problem for asking where’s the responsible denunciation!
What is going in Dearborn has been going on Detroit for years since the riots. Not much is going to change, its just another seperatist enclave that will go nowhere but give a small handful of individuals a chance to escape this crap and join a real society.
I live in Detroit and have friends of Arab descent and they are so fed up with the way that Arabs handle themselves that they say they are italian. We have to start somewhere because the world is getting smaller and the arab world is opening up slowly, but any arab that thinks keeping tabs on hezbollah is a bad thing should fly back.
I feel sorry for these kids, they remind me of the germans I knew that gave lip service when in public to freedom and tolerance but when behind closed doors were jealous nazis.
I guess that’s what they think freedom is for?
Funny thing is that some of what they are saying is half true. Where are all the little American kids that wouldve gone to Fordson? They were aborted, and now look what you get. That still doesnt justify hating anyone and you’ll never ever get ahead hating the hater, you love the sinner and hate the sin. but that’s probably out of the question as its part of the landscape for arabs to never ever tolerate a jew.

Are you real? I know what racism is of course, but have never really seen it demonstrated by a person like this.. kind of thought it was an archaic idea. I’m conflicted, kind of want to be distressed that you might be serious, but leaning towards there is just No Way!!! Dearbornistan. lol.
