Obama/Clinton State Department Blocks DebbieSchlussel.com – Islamic “Outreach”?

By Debbie Schlussel

Last night, I learned from a U.S. State Department employee and longtime DebbieSchlussel.com reader that my site is being blocked on many U.S. State Department computers.  I’ve confirmed that this is the case, with three different State Department employees (if you are a State Department employee, please let me know whether or not you can access this site).  Below is the e-mail I received from the employee, minus items I’ve redacted that would help identify this official.  I’ve also called the State Department press office to find out what their excuse du jour is for using Chi-Com, Islamo-Nazi internet tactics in the United States of America with taxpayer resources.  If this isn’t resolved appropriately, I will pursue every legal, available option.

Dear Debbie:

I work for the U.S. Department of State, so I am requesting confidentiality from you. I wanted to let you know that the State Department is blocking access to your website from State Department internet connections. I don’t know the reason behind this situation. Just thought you should know.

Isn’t it ironic that the same Barack Obama/Hillary Clinton State Department that protests website restrictions and censorship, in places like Communist China and Muslim Egypt, is now doing the same thing with DebbieSchlussel.com? I guess it’s the latest incarnation of Barack Obama’s Muslim outreach (and, don’t worry, the Bush Department of Homeland Security did it to me at one point, too).

We’re from the government, and we’re here to help you. Sieg Heil, baby.

“Once the camel gets it’s nose under the tent”……..can (Continuing) censorship be far behind? How about burning a few books? People say, “It can’t happen here.” I hate to tell them, but, it’s already here! Wake up and smell the fascism!

Herbster on December 29, 2010 at 1:09 pm

Of course they do.

If they don’t want to read your site, that’s their business. But they have no authority to use taxpayer dollars to enforce a blacklist of your site.

And you have good legal grounds to proceed against them in the matter. What’s more important is making sure government officials know there are two sides of the story.

Something the Islamo-panders in State would rather not know. Debbie, good luck with any suit you might file.

Ironic? Hardly. Pure camouflage. While protesting the conduct of others, this administration has blocked numerous programs and magazines from military bases. Has attempted to demonize Fox News. Has commenced the take over of the Internet, and is attempting to restore the “Fairness Doctrine” wherein bureaucrats approve of radio cable TV content. The bland, bizarrely ignorant, mouthings of PBS and NPR are the desired standard of group think.

The truth is now a hate crime.

Bill on December 29, 2010 at 1:44 pm

Just came from the airport. Security searching every car. Because it is Christmas, the most reviled day on the Muslim calendar. But no one will say it. Because to a dimwitted liberal, not voicing the truth makes it go away somehow.

pat on December 29, 2010 at 2:32 pm

Maybe they block it because they know you lie and are mentally unbalanced. Careful readers of this site already know that.

Jim Markey on December 29, 2010 at 2:38 pm

Why do you ascribe your own feelings to others you do not know? If you do not like this site, you can leave at any time. As for unbalanced minds, what would you know of such things? People sometimes think and do not always act like mindless insects, unlike you. Let people make their own minds up whether Debbie has something to say or not. You should stick to your Wudu, or have your caregiver help you if that is beyond you.

Nail the SOBs Debbie!!!!!

BIG IRISH on December 29, 2010 at 2:46 pm

Hey Deb, I am licensed in DC, and if you want to fight the State Department in the Courts here in DC, please contact me.

Jonathan Grant on December 29, 2010 at 2:50 pm

This does not surprise me at all. Just par for the course in this “once free” country.

Fred on December 29, 2010 at 3:12 pm

Debbie, if I were you, I would take Jonathan Grant’s advice, sue the Obama state department in the supreme court in Washington, DC, and the 5 conservative’s (maybe a few liberals on the SCOTUS) will take your side and notice that it’s a violation of the 1st amendment to block your site or any site from their state department.

And BTW, let me ask the left wingers this, what if we had ourselves a right wing president who would’ve either beaten Obama, Clinton or any Democrat in the election in 2008, and all of a sudden, weeks after the inaguration for this rightist president, he begins to fake it and move too far to the right and his political party lost 70-100 seats in the past elections this past novemeber. And what if this right wing president’s state department decides to block either the Huffington Post, Daily KOS, Democrat Underground, Think Progress, Media Matters, etc., I know all of you leftist will be bellyaching and demand that the right wing president should be impeached for violating the 1st amendment, and guess what, us conservative’s will agree with you left wingers on that issue. But now, where are all of the left wingers and the right wingers now that this thin-skinned president’s state department wants to block Debbie’s site! And Debbie, since you mentioned that Bush did the samething to you, I also pity George W Bush for doing that to you and now I pity Barack Hussein Obama for doing the same BS to this website.

Absolutely outrageous!

That’s good advice! SUE ’em, Debbie!

Michelle on December 29, 2010 at 4:01 pm

Hmmmm…. I wonder whose web site will be banned next?
Watch out, Zionists! I will RAISE CAIN if they dare ban mine.
And I have important contacts.

Tony on December 29, 2010 at 4:48 pm

I certainly agree that you have the right to have your website displayed on Government computers, and I also agree with the comments for this post that support you in your efforts to uphold your rights.

At the same time, Government employees should be aware (as should many corporate employees) that management in general is cracking down on non-business use of computers, and employees accessing your site (or any other non-business site for that matter) should be aware of their organization’s policy regarding non-business computer use in order to avoid reprisals.

Sites like this one contain additional potential dangers for government employees because you are a critic of the government, however justified. Reprisals could increase, or mark a government employee as a troublemaker if caught accessing your site.

While this is certainly wrong, employees should be aware of the potential risk, and, if you sue, you might try to find out, under discovery, if there are reprisals for accessing personal sites in general, and any additional reprisals for accessing political sites such as yours in particular, and, if so, fight against such reprisals.

At some sophisticated installations, they can go a step further, and even be aware of what someone accesses on their personal Blackberry or IPhone. It can be a risky business these days, and it might be a good idea to find out about such access, which, if on someone’s own device is clearly an invasion of privacy, and should also be fought.

Little Al on December 29, 2010 at 5:08 pm

I’m inclined to agree with Little Al here. I would like to know which OTHER sites are blocked by the State Dept. Is HuffPo blocked? The Daily Kos?

The reason I say this is because I know at the company I work for, the IT Department tends to block the websites where employees spend a lot of time DURING THE WORKDAY. We are being paid to WORK, not surf the net. And I work for an INTERNET company, the last place one would think would block websites!

So if debbieschlussel.com is somehow being singled out, that is wrong. If it is part of a broader policy of not allowing access to non-work-related sites, and sites on both sides of the political spectrum, as well as non-political sites, are included in the ban, then I would say it’s just a question of reducing non-productive internet access during the workday.

There is nothing stopping these State Department employees from accessing your site on their own computers on the own time.

DG in GA on December 30, 2010 at 11:42 am

Tony and everybody who posted after me, what where experiencing is left wing fascism showing it’s ugly face in this great country. And as I said, what if this had been a conservative president’s state department censored a left wing website, we all know all of the left wingers in this country will be calling for the conservative presidents head and it’ll be all over the MSM and in your local stinking, failed newspaper rag the next day. But don’t look for the MSM or your local, failing newspaper rag report this story in their stinking newspaper, you know why the liberal media isn’t going to report this, it’s because this type of story doesn’t fit their own criteria, the left wing media is like the modern day Tammany Hall.

Debbie, sue Obama’s state department by taking their sorry asses to the supreme court (and you will win, because your right and their WRONG), and I hope when the new Republican congress takes over week from now, I hope they all sorts of investigations, investigate Obama’s state department, DOJ (for failing to prosecute the Black Panthers of voter intimidation a few years ago), George Soros, Media Matters, Henry “Hank” Paulson, Chris Cox, ACORN, etc. These friggin people have had their little fun and games for a long time and it’s time for investigation for these SOB’s.

Sean R. on December 29, 2010 at 5:16 pm

Will she win…? With the state of our Judicial system – where so many decisions are obviously politically slanted to the Left (see Obama eligibility issues, etc) or according to the Judges own personal “interpretation of the law” (much like MLB Umpires “personal strike zones”, how can you count on any law being enforced…?

Tom on December 30, 2010 at 11:53 am

Please let us all know what is happening with this. And what we can do to help. If we don’t push back that “camel’s nose” some here refer to seems to grow bigger and bigger while our tents threaten to collapse.

Cat K on December 29, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Debbie, Jon is a mensch. Take advantage of his offer. A cease and desist letter would be a good start and if they don’t take the hint, it may mean going to court. But there’s a principle involved here and while it might easier to settle, that always comes with a price.

G-d bless you Debbie and I pray you prevail in this fight!

NormanF on December 29, 2010 at 6:51 pm

I work at DOS. Yes it is blocked. Appears to have happened in the last two weeks.

RJ on December 29, 2010 at 7:48 pm

Make this one more person that’s outraged at what the State Dept. is doing to you, Debbie.

I also agree with NormanF on December 29, 2010 at 6:51 pm.

JeffE on December 29, 2010 at 8:33 pm

Cry me a river. I want to know who these state department employees are who instead of doing their jobs are wasting the hard earned taxpayer money surfing the web.

@SeanR: Go ahead with your false equivalencies. I highly doubt the State Department is blocking Fox News, Drudge or the Wall Street Journal which are more comparable to Liberal outlets like the Daily Kos or Huffington Post. This website is not equivalent to the aforementioned liberal outlets. I would say it is more like 4Chan which I’m sure is also blocked at the state department.

And clearly it seems that most of you have never worked in a professional environment. You don’t have some god given right to visit whatever site you want on the company’s network. So continue the chest beating over “sueing” the DoS over this. The idea is laughable and this Jonathan Grant who offered his services is either trying to get a good laugh out of this or like a good businessman seizing the oppertunity to grab money from any suckers who fall for this. By all means go ahead and sue, if you’re not sucessful that nothing changes, if you are I can use the same argument to get 4chan unblocked at my place of work.

Kayle Igelstrom on December 29, 2010 at 9:33 pm

You are a bit slow, aren’t you? If they blocked all sites, that would be one thing. What they cannot do is block SOME sites based upon the political beliefs of the executive. Get it?

pat on December 30, 2010 at 1:39 am

Hey Kayle Igelstrom, you friggin fascist piece of garbage, it appears to that your an Obamaite (just like the Palin supporters), so your telling me that you support Obama’s state department on blocking a website? To me that’s “FASCISTIC” and your supporting, but your too stupid to actually see it. And yes, Debbie should and will more likely sue the state department for blocking her website, because it’s a VIOLATION OF HER 1ST AMENDMENT RIGHTS, you stupid dumbass! I know if we had a conservative president and the right wing president’s state department decides to block left wing websites, you will be over here crying and bellyaching about, I know you will. And we will agree with you because it’ll be wrong.

Bottom line is is that Debbie is RIGHT and Obama’s state department is dead WRONG! And I pity you Kayle for supporting fascism, how dare you, this is the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, this is not the old Soviet Union, Venezula, China, Iran, North Korea, etc. If you want to live in a country like that Kayle, then I suggest you move your ass to those places that I named. And it’s leftist like who’s ruining our country from top to bottom.

Sean R. on December 29, 2010 at 10:33 pm

Find out whether any Muslim Jihad loving Israel-hating websites are being blocked at these same govt offices, DailyKos, HuffPo, zmag, counterpunch, NormanFinkelstein.com, etc – get these employees who can’t access your site to check on this. If they can access these loony lefty sites (and I’m willing to bet they can) but not your own, then and only then, does Debbie S have a case against the State Dept and related govt beauracracies.

In other words Debbie does have a legitimate case, she is being blocked but other political websites are not.

Larry in Tel Aviv on December 30, 2010 at 1:37 am

Debbie I think you have better things to pursue than if the state department is blocking your website. Frankly I think the state department (and entire federal government) should block anything that is not work related. Open internet access is not a right at work and certainly shouldn’t be for a public servant. Sorry but if you work for the federal government you are on the public dime and you don’t need access to Facebook and every other waste of time on the internet.

C: Only my site is blocked. There is ABSOLUTELY no reason why my site should be blocked by State and NOT Al-Jazeera or Muslim sites. No reason. WAKE. UP. DS

Chris on December 30, 2010 at 9:24 am

Yup… Hillary may have the balls but I think she’s met her match.

There’s only way this is gonna end!

NormanF on December 30, 2010 at 2:17 pm

Obama’s leaks have destroyed Hillary’s career. I guess there is no honor amoung thieves.

burt on December 30, 2010 at 10:06 am

Why am I not very surprised. Our government headed by our great “lover” of freedom, especially if you are Muslim is showing it’s true colors (green and black?) more and more every day. I know I don’t just speak for myself when I say that we love your columns, your candor and strength. We will all do what we can to help.

Naomi Romm on December 30, 2010 at 12:50 pm

It’s a pity the world isn’t divided into two equal hemispheres, Left and Right. I’m so sick of the left side telling me how to live.

A few late nights ago I turned the TV on when I couldn’t fall asleep. PBS had some program on (too tired to remember) that was discussing whether we the people have too much right to free information or something of that nature. The Wikopedia dude plus another guest (with more than half a brain than the left side) said we have the right and ability to decide for ourselves. Some leftie British clown and his Mussie/Indian sidekick thought we should leave that up to the experts (like him), know-it-alls, newsmedia, etc.
He made it clear that yes, we the public are too stupid and immature to make up our minds with real facts and should rely on the experts like him to come to our conclusions instead…dwerp!
(yes! a dweeb and a twerp)

Not a big Wikopedia fan but I found some respect for Jim Wales for defending our right to an open internet, of course in his best interest too.

If we could send the left to their hemisphere and cut off their internet, give them ‘free’ healthcare, tax them to death, make them pay for global warming, let them drive Yugo’s and shower in a tablespoon of water, etc. all on their side of the planet while we on the right just get left alone and to our business…well, I wonder which world would fall apart sooner. No, I don’t wonder, I know.

I have a dream…sigh
