When I was a youngster my elementary school had pictures of Washington and Lincoln in every classroom. Later, when the school become predominately African-American, Martin Luther King was added. The Satmaar (One of the many groups of Hassidic Jews) tried having their own school in New York(admission was not restricted but based on the school district's boundaries it would have been overwhelmingly Satmaar) and the courts threw it out.
