Drilling our own oil while we search for alternate fuels is a totally obvious way to reduce our dependence on ME oil. I also have suspicion that just how much oil we actually have in the ANWR is a state secret and it’s more than the public knows.
I’ve been watching the development of biofuel and it’s encouraging. Not ethanol, that’s bullshit; corn’s for eating, feeding to cows, and making moonshine. Switchgrass and algae are the source and the military has already certified biofuel in two military jet aircraft, the C17 and I forget the other, but I think it was a fighter. If you’ve ever seen the numbers on how much fuel the US military uses for aviation compared to the public consumption you would understand (perhaps you have and already do) how big a deal this is.
So what is “fake” conservationism about using less? You know, conserving – like driving less, or opening that window? Sure, I have AC too and buy things that come home in plastic bags. I don’t turn on the AC until I’ve used the ocean breeze to knock down the temp a few degrees first, that’s for my bank account more than for the environment. Every plastic bag that comes into my house gets either reused or recycled – Probably into a polartec parka.
These habits don’t make me a leftard, I’m not hugging trees but I also don’t celebrate gluttony except on weekends and after five. So maybe we aren’t on the same page, but what I’m talking about is the same thing you describe: “people being smart about this environmental stuff without forcing it on people’s lives.” Like one thing that ticks me off is the redemption value they charge on beverage containers. That’s forcing it down peoples throats. I don’t think it does anything to eliminate trash, it may encourage recycling. It’s too much of a hassle for me to take the millions of beer bottles I empty each week to a center [see gluttony] so it’s really just an additional tax on my brew. I put it on the curb for the city’s recycling program and and illegal aliens steal it before the truck comes. Not a perfect system – but at least the shit gets recycled.
Not sure if you don’t quite get it or if you are just determined to be part of the cheering section…fake. Fake? Ouch, that’s going to leave a mark. not

Hey Richard, I don’t know where you get the idea that I’m somehow on the same page as you are. I WOULD use an AC and I DO carry my food and/or other things in plastic bags.
So no I’m not the same fake-environmentalist as you are.

I agree with Squirrel3D, I’m pretty sick of being told I’m “green” if I buy certain products. Blue works for me, simple ideas like: reduce, reuse, recycle. Turn off the lights when you aren’t using them. Plan your routes to reduce your mileage, carpool. Shut down unused electronics. Open a window instead of turning on the AC.
But you won’t find any sympathy with ideas of conserving the environment from Debbie; she has actually boasted that she doesn’t recycle. Remember how she went off to buy something in plastic bags to counter the notion of going green? I’d look to a different forum for promoting this notion of ‘blue’. No, come here for anti-jihad, movie reviews, and gay-bashing but not environmental concerns.

Debbie, the whole go green thing is a bunch of…brown bulls*it.
This is what I’ve been asking for the longest time. How come these greenies say nothing about littering of the streets, sidewalks, and even the waters!? HOW COME I HAVE TO BRING IT UP!!??
I’ve been thinking of starting a campaign to counter the green crap. I call it “Go Blue”, as in people being smart about this environmental stuff without forcing it on people’s lives. Littering is one of the examples. Another is drilling our OWN oil here in america, while we find TRUE alternate solutions for fuel and gas. I can name more…but…I can’t do this by myself. Deb, anyone, feel like discussing this with me and hopefully get this campaign going?
