Govt Helping GM: OUT! Govt Wasting Gazillions on “Green”: IN!

By Debbie Schlussel
So, today General Motors filed for bankruptcy after a few gazillions in government bailouts. GM is officially now the Obama administration’s bitch and should just change its name to Yugo.
But while GM is down and out, ya know what’s in? Wasting gazillions in your tax money on “green grants,” that’s what. Git yer hands on some of that green, er . . . green. As in, $3.2 billion of the stuff, and they gotta get rid of it by June 25th, kinda like some Chrysler dealers gotta get rid of some cars.

Imagine billions of federal dollars at your fingertips if you can just come up with a plan to go green.
States and cities across the nation are scrambling to meet a series of deadlines to tap into economic stimulus money available for energy-saving programs.

A looming deadline: June 25, when local governments apply for a share of the $3.2 billion in block grants for energy efficiency and conservation.
“It’s coming up quickly,” says Cathy Polasky, Minneapolis director of economic development.
* At least $500 million for green jobs training.
* $9.75 billion to renovate schools.
* $5 billion to weatherize low-income homes.
* $300 million to replace old appliances with “Energy Star” products.
“All of a sudden, dollars are coming from different areas all at once,” says Sadhu Johnston, chief environmental officer for the city of Chicago, which launched a climate action plan last fall. “For the first time, there’s a significant package of federal resources to help us meet our goals on everything from affordable housing to infrastructure.”
Today, 150 people from 20 cities are expected at Green Boot Camp at Harvard University. The two-day training session is organized and sponsored by Living Cities, a group of 21 of the world’s largest foundations that aim to improve cities and the lives of low-income people.
The boot camp “is to ensure they’ve developed the right strategies and financing … and to manage stimulus money,” says Ben Hecht, CEO and president of Living Cities.
The session is bringing together parties that rarely interact — from state and city officials to housing authorities, economic and workforce development agencies and utility companies.
Already, the stimulus funds have forged unprecedented partnerships, Polasky says.
She had never met half the people who came from her area to attend the boot camp. Since the race for stimulus money began in February, she says, “I go home every night and tell myself, ‘Well, I met another 100 new people.’ ”
On tap at the boot camp are discussions on financing strategies and marketing, building codes and energy conservation incentives.
“Every single city we invited accepted,” says Stockton Williams, director of Living Cities’ Green Economy Initiatives, which is covering expenses. “This economic recovery bill is a one-time infusion of funding. Now, we need to make sure cities set up systems that will be sustained.”

Barf! Green Boot Camp at Harvard? Money they’re just giving away and training cities how to waste? Sickening.
How ’bout giving a tax cut to the people or letting businesses and private enterprise show some “green” love? That would be too obvious, too logical. Too too . . . .
This is just throwing away money for a fad: “green.”

One more example of the destruction of a formerly viable, vibrant industry in favor of taxpayer funded fantasy. I am not sure who is more disgusting; the recipients or the perpetrators.

What a waste of money. Anyone taking this money should remember that this is money that our country does not have. It is money borrowed that will have to paid back in the future. Will you pay back the money that you receive? If not, then who will. I know. You don’t care. Someone else will pay it back. Let’s live for today. What about tomorrow and after that? I know. Let’s not worry about it. Life is about living in the present. Enjoy it!! The grim reaper is patiently waiting.

Entitlement & the erosion of the capitalist system in the USA started this recession. The ObamaNation is making it much worse. BO policies are the problem and do not even come close to being the solution.
The Nanny State of the ObamaNation aims to totally run the lives of all Americans. Democrats believe that people are too F’n stupid to take care of themselves. Democrats believe another FDR must come in and micro manage the lives of every single citizen. This take over is not being accomplished by force. BO was elected by millions in the November 2008 presidential election.
Unfortunately, the Democrats are correct about the “dumbing down” of America. We must admit that the majority of the country voted for a Collectivist Fascist and made him the President of the United States.
The time has come to admit that the voters of this country made a terrible mistake in electing BO. We must do something to avert the disaster that is sure to follow if we do nothing. The elections of 2010/12 will determine the fate of ALL the people who live in the United States.

Green… we all want to preserve the earth’s green spaces but a lot of this is about pagan nature worship not about making Man a responsible steward of the earth’s garden under G-d. In Genesis, that was the first human being’s task and it wasn’t all a life of bliss and plenty any more than in the world in which Adam and Chava’s descendants live today.

Hi Debbie!
The government is saying: “Give us more of your money and we’ll make the weather better.”
The scary thing is that people believe this. If they believe this, how long will it be before people believe other absurd notions such as: “The Jews are our misfortune.”?
In case you hadn’t noticed, they’re working on that one too.
Naturally, there are some good an compelling things we need to do to protect the environment. However, like I always say: Every good idea in America gets taken to the nth degree of absurdity. (Please give credit to yours truly if you use this).
The problem is that there are legitimate economic and environmental concerns that will likely be ignored because the LIB media and the government has gotten us so meshugge about CO2. I strongly advise you to read “Energy Victory” by Dr. Robert Zubrin if you want to know exactly how to break OPEC and improve the environment.
On another note, I had dinner with Frank Gaffney a couple of weeks ago. Frank is a colleague of Dr. Zubrin’s. If you like Frank’s work, you’ll especially want to check out Dr. Zubrin’s work.
We could bust OPEC, win the war on Islamist terror, drive SUV’s and clean up the environment if we only pass the “Open Fuels Standard Act of 2009”. As an energy professional, I can’t encourage you too strongly to get with this program.

They try to force us all to go green, and yet they haven’t even encouraged anyone to stop littering on the sidewalk for god sakes!!

NormanF:
“pagan nature worship”
You might be on to something there with that thesis.

Of all of the scathing and brutal analysis that I have seen regarding the GM debacle, none cuts quite as deep as Debbie’s. GM is Nobody’s Bitch!! lol. But seriously, before all of you bash a big business to bits as the Obama administration’s bitch, we need to keep in mind that General Motors, over one hundred years, has launched millions of careers and helped to solidify, if not create, a substantial Middle Class, as well as create some of the most sophisticated technologies known to the world. Foreign Governments supporting Foreign competition with large subsidies has dealt the death blow.

Roads Skolar:
Deb’s column (This one; I can’t comment on others as I probably haven’t seen them) is hardly scathing and brutal. Moreover, I think you missed her primary thesis.
I’ll repeat it for you: “This is just throwing away money for a fad: ‘green.'”

This is absolutely incredible. The government is incapable of managing itself, let alone running a profit making organization. Remember about 30 years ago the government took over the Mustang Ranch in Nevada and lost money on it, Politics may not be the oldest profession, but the results are still the same.

The “Soylent Green” plot; ladies and gentlemen!

Obama says Iran has legitimate nuclear energy concerns. (That piece of sh*t is undermining our nation to say the least.) Getting back to point, where are all the greenies protesting any advancement of EVIL nuclear technology or power? Where are the greenies telling terrorist Muslim nations that fossil fuels and nuclear power are EVIL? Yeah a bunch of pansies who never tell a Muslim how to live their lives, but go around telling Western countries and people how we have to be more green. What a crock of sh*t.

Our Economy is in the shitter because we have allowed our politicians to ship our jobs overseas.
Because the New World Order presidents have signed unconstitutional trade deals that allow US corporations to manufacture products overseas and then import them back into the USA avoiding tariffs.
Our Congress and Politicians have sold the American People out to the Rockefeller New World Order. Now they have illegally nationalized two of our biggest auto makers and are breaking them up.
None dare call it treason but the is exactly what is occurring.
