Guess Who Casino Oddsmakers Are Betting on in Today’s Presidential Election

By Debbie Schlussel

Who are you picking to win today’s Presidential election? I voted for Mitt Romney, but I believe that, sadly, Barack Obama will be re-elected. Am I wrong? We’ll see tonight (hopefully). But I wondered what the casino odds are–what the handicappers who must be honest (because they could make or lose a lot of money on it) saying? Here are the various odds from the British online casino and brick-and-mortar betting house, Ladbrokes. Note that Ladbrokes also has odds for battleground states, electoral vote spreads, and so on. The odds favor Obama in pretty much all of the scenarios. Though they’ve improved for Romney in the last hour. Ladbrokes suspended bets on the popular vote and other categories, such as states, after I first looked.

Check it out and note the tightening of odds between 22:00 and 23:00, the most recent times for odds that I saw (click on the images to fully view those that are partially covered by this site’s ads) . . .

Odds at 22:00:

See the rest of the odds . . .

Odds at 23:00:

Do you agree with the UK bookmakers at Ladbrokes? Who’s gonna win tonight and why?

Romney is catching up because the Republicans are getting home from work.

I agree with Debbie. Obama is probably going to win. America has been so dumbed down. What can we expect?

Mitt Romney ran a terrible, one note campaign. There are issues FAR more important than the economy, and he wouldn’t even bring them up.

There was a huge turnout at the polls in Northern Virginia, and that is bad news for the Romney campaign because the blacks in Richmond and the Tidewater will all go for Obama, as well as the liberals in Northern Virginia.

Debbie you are an ignorant fool. I both hate you and at the same time pity you for your poor mental health.

Shaquille Davis on November 6, 2012 at 5:56 pm

And what’s your opinion regarding this thread and topic? Ever heard of the term, “don’t attack the messenger”, you attacked Debbie by throwing stones at glass-houses for god knows what. You’re the one who’s the real ignoramous, and what is your issue with folks who have mental issues? Are people with mental issues second-class citizens/4-5 human in your sick and pathetic view? Anyway, stick to the damn topic and quit trolling like a clown.

Not all oddsmakers. Wayne Root has been predicting a Romney landslide for some time (and, to the best of my knowledge, is sticking to it). Do not be discouraged, folks. Get out and VOTE!!!!!! Root, by the way, was once a Libertarian VP candidate, not that it matters. But again, don’t be discouraged. VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look I stayed at a ladbroke Hotel years ago for 3 days in London… it was supposedly JUST updated and reportly beautifulby the travel agency.

NOT so!

It was redone but poorly, shabbily and the decorating was in early thrift store style.

Ladbroke company took a CHANCE and bought MANY hotels and screwed up badly…I do not trust anything they say or do.

And by the way… the price of the hotel room was just as high as all the others in the area. Thing is… they HAVE to have repeat businessto keep a hotel going in London.Enough complaints to the travel agencies and so forth… heck NOBODY takes a chance on them! And they FAILED in the hotel biz! Hardly a good BET for them!

Obama, if for no other reason than the fraud factor.

Little Al on November 6, 2012 at 6:21 pm

I hope like hell Obama-Putin will NOT be re-elected! I can’t even process that. IF that happens America gets what it deserves. It will really piss me off.

It’s one thing for me to be pissed off. The other thing is the harm Obama-Putin and his minions (yeah you, Valerie Jarrett!) will slowly do with another 4 years.

I will feel like giving up. I’m pretty feisty but I know I will feel that it will be beyond Sisyphean. Why should I bother anymore when the last 4 years have been taxing and beyond annoying and a free people gave it all up.

We’ll see…

Skunky on November 6, 2012 at 6:25 pm

Skunky, I feel the same way, if Obama wins, then that says a lot as where we are as a nation. The republican party may as well give it up if they can’t beat this monster. As Debbie said, our country has been dumbed down. Our fate as a nation will be deserved. I still have hope though, until the race is called, I will hold out hope. So far nothing has been called.

John on November 6, 2012 at 6:50 pm

There is little question that Ladbrokes (and William Hill as well) from the UK are extremely knowledgeable oddsmakers. I have three points to make.

First, let’s look at the odds from a practical standpoint. As I understand how these odds work, with Obama posted at 2/9 and Romney posted at 10/3, to interpret these odds, we first convert those fractions into cardinal numbers; hence Obama at 2/9 is really 0.222 and Romney at 10/3 is really 3.333. So, this should mean that for every $1 risked on Obama, if Obama wins, the bookmaker will pay the bettor $0.222 plus the original $1 bet. Conversely, for every $1 risked on Romney, if Romney wins, the bookmaker will pay the bettor $3.333 plus the original $1 bet.

Second, although these odd clearly show Obama to be a heavy favorite, we should always understand that the odds offered by any bookmaker are not necessarily a prediction of the outcome. But rather, they reflect the odds necessary to compel sufficient betting on either side to make the bet profitable to the bookmakers. Obviously if every bettor bet on Obama and Obama won, the bookies would lose, and if every bettor bet on Romney and Romney won, the bookies would lose very big. But, of course, that does not happen. Rather, the odds are set and the bets are placed on each side such that the bookies expect to make money regardless of who wins. Please take my word on this, but if your betting strategy is to always place your bets on a heavy favorite, you will lose… and lose big, and it won’t take long to do so. The latest World Series is a case in point: Detroit was the clear favorite and San Francisco was the underdog.

Third, despite all of my commentary above, I have looked at the odds of past presidential elections, and when a candidate has been very heavily favored to win, that candidate usually does win. Unlike many a sporting event, in such major elections as these, there are rarely any upsets. I didn’t say they don’t happen, but they’re rare. Unfortunately, I don’t think that this election will turn out to be an exception.

Ralph Adamo on November 6, 2012 at 6:41 pm

We are realistic…..little zero wins…. CIVIL WAR in 3 to 4 years!

Alabama Pride on November 6, 2012 at 6:41 pm

I, too, would prefer a Romney presidency — but (as Debbie notes) it may very well result in another term for Obama. I voted months ago, but I’m not watching the results or listening to the commentary (too stressful)…

J.S. on November 6, 2012 at 6:45 pm

But there’s another reason Obama will win. The papers have been full of stories about the evangelical voters in Ohio — will some of them stay home out of disgust?

What none of the ‘conservatives’ have been saying recently is that it is not just the evangelicals. Romney followed the same stale strategy in the third debate of appealing to the ‘moderates’. Lots of us were totally disgusted with this, the same old flip-flopping Romney, but in the end, a liberal. So I think a relatively large number of conservatives will stay at home, maybe not as many as 2008, but still a lot.

That, the fraud, and the scaring of women, blacks, latinos, shiftless young adults, whoever wants a free handout, will give the election to Obama.

Little Al on November 6, 2012 at 7:28 pm

    LA,

The moderates are really liberals. Its no consolation that I, Michael Barone and others lost on our bet.

Nate Silver and Intrade were right to a T. Romney was never going to win this thing, the markets are always right.

Some of us have been humbled by the election. We thought the debates changed everything but in reality they changed nothing!

Obama was very difficult to beat and Americans didn’t want to say no to a black President. Like it or not, to a great extent, Obama’s skin color saved him.

And now things are going to get worse on his watch and America’s decline will continue.

NormanF on November 6, 2012 at 11:47 pm

It’s not over yet, but it appears all the talk of enthusiasm and the Independents favoring Romney has all come to naught. Dick Morris, after all his talk of a decisive win for Romney, is now looking rather foolish. Hopes of grabbing Pennsylvania and Wisconsin are gone. Brown’s already been declared the winner over Mandel, which bodes ill for Romney in Ohio.

Earlier today, after I’d voted but well before the polls had closed, I had this sick feeling that Obama would pull out a win, which would only validate the arrogance and smugness of the left.

It’s not just that the voters have unwittingly chosen to move Forward! to decline. I think we should at last retire any talk of the “good sense of the American people”.

Update: Scott Brown was just unseated by Elizabeth “Fauxcahontas” Warren. The bad news keeps piling up. So if Obama remains in office, with continued Democratic control of the Senate, he’ll get to choose a few more liberal Justices.

Raymond in DC on November 6, 2012 at 10:00 pm

Tonight we learn that class warfare has paid off. We are just like the Russian peasants who would rather see the rich taken down, than work hard and raise themselves up.

This country has turned the corner, into a dead end alley. We have chosen welfare over work, a government handout over freedom. Tax the rich and upper middleclass, and redistribute the money to the uncreative.

Tonight marks the night when America’s decline accelerates.

Jonathan E. Grant on November 6, 2012 at 10:08 pm

    Jon,

Brit Hume made the point earlier tonight that the moderates who sided with Obama are really liberals.

Liberals are in the majority now in this country. Its incredible that as lousy a President as Obama with his track record could get re-elected!

But he did and its one for the history books.

NormanF on November 6, 2012 at 11:41 pm

Well, the problem is that the Republicans are a liberal party. In the face of Obamacare, what do they do? They run a candidate whose actions helped initiate Obamacare. They drop every issue except the economy, and figure the base still run to support Romney.

The talk show pundits and all the Republican sages fell in line, but we all remember how unpopular Romney was in the Republican primaries. Alternative after alternative kept popping up because 60% of voters couldn’t stomach Romney.

And once he won the nomination, he did nothing to try to win over that 60%. Yes, some of them still voted for him, but not enough for him to win.

Little Al on November 6, 2012 at 10:45 pm

Jonathan, I agree with your conclusions about why so many Americans are voting for Obama, but I disagree with you if you are suggesting that an Obama victory will result in a soak the rich policy and upper middle class and a redistribution to the poor. I think that is only partially correct. The very wealthy in the USA have done extremely well under the first term of Obama and will be doing even better under his second term, if that comes to pass, as it looks like it will.

Warren Buffet and George Soros aren’t backing Obama because they’re perverse. Rather, they only will make more and more money under Obama. Under Obama, Buffett, for example, has been excused from paying more than $1 billion in back taxes and interest. The rich are getting richer, and Obama hasn’t hurt them in the least. Just the opposite. Even the billionaires that are backing Romney aren’t do so because he’s hurt their bank accounts. On the contrary, they too have done better than ever under him. (They are against Obama for philosophical, political, ethical, or other reasons, but not money reasons.)

I believe that the Obama administration is after the MIDDLE CLASS. THEY are getting squeezed out of the picture. THEY have the most to lose under Obama. Ironically, Obama’s margin of victory will come from the stupid members of the middle class who actually believe the hype that Obama will tax the rich and back the middle class. They will be in for a very serious shock. Sure they will change course in the next presidential election, but by then the damage will be so severe, that the middle class may never recover.

The USA will start to look more and more like the German science fiction silent film from the 1920s called Metropolis, in which the nation depicted in the movie really consists of only two classes: the ultra wealthy elite and the poor drones, supplemented by a very small bureaucratic class to act as intermediaries.

Ralph Adamo on November 6, 2012 at 10:53 pm

I am not talking about the uber wealthy; I am referring to those trying to climb the ladder of success. The upper rungs are being cut off for them.

Jonathan E. Grant on November 6, 2012 at 11:04 pm

      Jonathan: Got it. Well put.

Ralph Adamo on November 6, 2012 at 11:54 pm

      Jon,

Americans now look to the government to take care of them and most of them don’t pay any taxes.

So its not exactly like they paid a price by re-electing Obama. They value their security more than their freedom.

I don’t see that changing and I don’t see a Republican candidate willing to challenge social democracy, higher taxes and government run health care, unless they want to commit political suicide.

Bottom line – conservatism no longer appeals to most Americans.

Too bad Frasier isn’t on tonight

BUT I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THOSE TOSSED SALADS AND SCRAMBLED EGGSSSS…….THEY’RE CALLING AGAIN

AnusPresley on November 7, 2012 at 12:16 am

Well, I guess it isn’t the economy, stupid. It is Obamacare, illegal immigration, affirmative action, an incompetent, appeasing foreign policy, a failure to provide any confidence on what kinds of Supreme Court justices he would choose, as well. He wouldn’t attack the unions, and said nothing about the teachers and AFSCME/ It is telling that Obama won the same state that Walker, who fought on just one issue, prevailed by several percentage points in the recall election. But the Republicans don’t have many fighters in their higher ranks. The old principle where everyone rises to their level of incompetence (or bureaucratization.)

Yes, of course people wanted to keep their handouts, but unfortunately the Republicans supported all too many of these handouts either in their final form, or with slight, but only slight, modifications.

Kind of like Greece where the major parties are all in a coalition together, or like other ‘democracies’ in Europe and now, even Israel, where the conservatives and liberals are becoming indistinguishable.

But the defeat will be blamed on demographics. Yes, they play a part, but they are only part of the answer. And I’ll just repeat what others have said here: we have become a welfare state, with soak the middle class philosophy, and like all other countries of this sort, we are descending faster and faster into chaos.

Little Al on November 7, 2012 at 12:32 am

We also have an electorate that, increasingly, has proven themselves easily manipulated and led through the nose by endless media hysteria (which more than one commentator has compared to the dog in the cartoon feature Up! suddenly shouting out “Squirrel!”), making decisions entirely based on emotion, with no regard for the future or our national security or anything else. So it’s a combination of all of the above, frankly. “Dumbed down” is certainly more spot-on than anyone would admit.

ConcernedPatriot on November 7, 2012 at 12:34 am

    You said it, Concerned Patriot.

The Boston Phoenix painted a Quantum “Mitt Romney” and it worked and it matched the equally jokey campaign of Obama-Putin. Better than I ever thought it could.

In article after article they called him “EXTREME right-wing” when those who come here know his record is ANYTHING but. They said he was dedicated to abolishing abortion when a President can do no such thing and when he was Governor, he signed $50. co-pay elective surgical abortions into law. He also refused to sign the Susan B. Anthony Personhood pledges. He also forced Catholic Hospitals to issue abortifacients in violation of Massachusetts law.

They said he was hostile to homosexuals but nominated 2 open ones for judicial vacancies. He also passed over Republican lawyer nominees 3 out of 4 times for Judgeships. He also didn’t fight the Judicial fiat that instituted “gay” marriage.

But ask a Liberal and he hates women, gays and abortion!

The Boston Phoenix also told it’s brain-dead Liberal readers that Obama-Putin “relieved the nation of the collective anger that fueled the folly of M.E, & West Asia wars” and that Romney was a war-monger.

They said Obama-Putin “reversed course on foreign wars w/out tearing an already fragile nation apart” forgetting about Libya and the troops he put in Africa. (Uganda, I believe).

    They said he “rescued Detroit”.

And said the Stimulus was too small and that the re-regulation of Wall Street too tepid. But Obama-Putin was doing all in his power.

So when you have whoppers like that being sold as truth and other OWS writers like dirty underwear smelling OWS urchin Chris Farone bragging that they are “embarrassed by caucasian corniness & like soul food” THAT is how you trick the retarded masses.

It worked in Massa(hole)chusetts and other states in the union.

FK’s invective is matched only by his stupidity. Michael Medved with temper tantrums.

Little Al on November 7, 2012 at 2:39 am

I just think in the end,the legacy media proved it still had clout and also the Democrats showed they could win an election at will.

I think our country has reached a tipping point and unless idealogical changes happen in the legacy media,we’re never going to overcome the propagand power of Hollywood on the west coast and Big Media on the east coast and unions in the middle.

I think talk radio and conservative websites have done as much as they can do and now it’s all downhill from here.
The Dems won’t even have to enact the Fairness Doctrine ,because they took the Tea Party and conservatives best shot and came out swinging with a knockout punch.

And the thing about it is,Obama can now absolutely destroy this country and get away with it because who’s gonna hold him accountable?

Goodbye Gateway Pundit.
Goodbye Drudgereport
Goodbye Breitbart
Goodbye Blaze website
Goodbye talk radio

It was a fantastic four years, but I can’t take another four years of constantly being on edge and angry about crap that won’t make any difference in the outcome of an election.
And besides,Obama’s not running for reelection in 2016 and the Democrats hold the Senate and will ALWAYS forevermore hold the Senate,so Obama is UNTOUCHABLE.

ebayer on November 7, 2012 at 3:54 am

I for one refuse to give up.

Let Obama show his true face. Let the country finally see what happens when regressive policies (I refuse to call them “progressive”–I have too much respect for Teddy Roosevelt for that) go wild. When unemployment starts reaching Depression-era rates, when the goodies dry up, and when Obama is stumbling over his teleprompter trying to explain why…then maybe the 50% of Americans who keep voting for morons will understand. *(And speaking of morons–Akin’s defeat was no loss to the GOP. It’s time for a housecleaning of the Neo-Whigs.)

Churchill was right. Americans do the right thing after exhausting all other options.

And if it comes to civil war, which I fervently pray God it doesn’t…well, so be it. In the words of William Lloyd Garrison, “let it come.”

sentinel28a on November 7, 2012 at 5:38 am

Debbie reluctantly voted for Mitt Happens.

But she couldn’t stand most of his policies and neither could I.

The truth is we now live in a center-left country and the demographics are no longer with conservatives.

Ronald Reagan couldn’t win today.

NormanF on November 7, 2012 at 9:12 am

Debbie wasn’t the only one on our side to predict Obama would win, but the reasons she cited were based on solid historical foundations and other ominous trends – plus what she frequently wrote about Romney’s “horrible” campaign. Michael Savage, back in the spring when one of his books was published, had prognosticated that Obama would cruise to a second term (however undeserved, and possibly achieved by fraudulent means) – but cited as “evidence” his own book at #3 on the best seller lists that week while, at the same time, another book by leftist lesbian (or is that lesbian leftist? doesn’t make any difference) Rachel “Maddog” Maddow was #1. (Sort of fits in to what was written about Savage being “all about himself.”)

B.T.W., I’m from NYC, but cannot stomach the sick excuse for a Mayor that is Bloomberg – and also voted against whom ‘Skunky’ has aptly called “Obama-Putin.” Alas, far too many in that city (and state) are of “the other side.”

She’s knew and shared what a Liberal Mitt Zombie was. And she voted for him (as did I) because she knew it was a vote against Obama-Putin. We were up against it but now we are down in it.

I also pointed out (ad nauseam) that his rough go @ his REPUBLICAN opponents in the Primary but soft hands with the criminal, Prevaricator In Chief was disgusting. I also pointed out his “brilliant” strategy of letting Obama-Putin go on Benghazi on the 3rd debate about FOREIGN affairs would *ONLY* be brilliant if he won. He DIDN’T.

She’s the only one who knows and shares what devious frauds Darrell Issa & Grover Norquist are. Meanwhile, they are STILL darlings for the ignorant Conservatives.

Massachusetts RE-ELECTED a fraud named John Tierney who is far, far LEFT (& no, I am NOT using hyperbole like the Boston Phoenix) and who’s wife did prison time for tax fraud by aiding and abetting her gangster brother. The Boston Phoenix STILL endorsed him even though his opponent was gay (and a Republican). He’s got a good record, they said. He cares about the poor and women and gays, they said.

I sorta agree with Ebayer (I do agree 100% w/ his disappointment) and I am getting out of most of my political past-times. Perhaps I will spend free time on “Pintrist” among the skanky females who obsess over Hollywood stars and post naked photos of them (and I am talking about Male celebrities and not women). Maybe I can stomach Honey Boo Bo & the Kardashians after all. When not listening to music, maybe I will make time for “The View”. The show of the sweethearts of America.

BUT I am coming back here. I am gonna focus on Islamic Jihad. I’d also like to continue to know the FACTS but I won’t be pointing them out as much anymore.

Those folks in New York and New Jersey? NOW I am glad it is not ME and I am gonna start thinking that way. I will NOT wear my heart on my sleeve for a Nation that embraces mental-cased Leftist non-truths.

It’s gonna be about MY safety & lifestyle now. America is on her OWN!!

Golly-gee, I SURE am relieved that they didn’t take my advice and dump Romney before the convention. Aren’t you proud of your dapper little Rominee and his “coattails?” LOL
