Farid Fata: Lebanese Cancer Doc Defrauded Medicare, Told Patients w No Cancer They Had it, Gave ‘Em Chemo; Used Foreign Alien Muslim Docs w No License

By Debbie Schlussel

Over the years, I’ve noted that a significant percentage of doctors and other healthcare professionals who commit healthcare fraud are Muslims, Arabs, or both. This is true not just in Michigan–where Arabs and Muslims are each, at most, two percent of the population–but also in other states with lower Muslim and Arab populations.

Yesterday, Middle Eastern Detroit-area cancer doctor, Farid Fata, MD, was arrested by FBI agents, and his palatial home and several offices were raided. Fata, a renowned oncologist and a graduate of Lebanese University, amassed multi-millions by defrauding Medicare and telling patients who did not have cancer that they did, so that he could give them poisonous, fatal chemotherapy and fraudulently bill Medicare for it. He defrauded the government to the tune of over $35 million dollars. Fata also gave chemo to cancer patients who were at the end stages of life, where chemo would not help them and only made their last days more miserable. But, hey, they’re just “worthless” infidels, and he needed to bill the government, so he could add to those millions and maintain his mansion in ritzy Oakland Township. Read the Federal Criminal Complaint unsealed yesterday against Dr. Fata.

According to the complaint, Fata employed hundreds of foreign doctors–most of them Muslims and Arabs–and did not even know if they were licensed to practice medicine. He had those foreign doctors administer the lethal chemotherapy to hundreds of patients per day who did not need it. Many of those foreign doctors are probably not even in the United States legally. (More of those Paul Ryan and Marco Boob-io want to get “out of the shadows” with instant amnesty citizenship. Fabulous!) Some of the surviving family members of Dr. Fata’s patients believe he murdered them, and they are probably right. If you don’t have cancer, and you are given chemo, it’s poisonous and can be fatal. Fata’s had thousands of patients through the many offices of his Michigan Hematology Oncology P.C. company, which employed mostly Muslim and Arab doctors even among those who are licensed to practice medicine here.

Among the things specifically cited by FBI Special Agent Brian Fairweather in his affidavit in the complaint:

Specifically, Dr. Fata has directed the following activities:

a. Administration of unnecessary chemotherapy in patients in remission

b. Deliberate misdiagnosis of patients as having cancer to justify unnecessary cancer treatment

c. Administration of chemotherapy to end-of-life patients who will not benefit from the treatment

d. Deliberate misdiagnosis of patients without cancer to justify expensive testing

e. Fabrication of other diagnoses such as anemia and fatigue to justify unnecessary hematology treatments

f. Distribution of controlled substances to patients without medical necessity. . . .

He employed three foreign doctors who were not licensed in the United States to examine the patients and provide an initial diagnosis. . . .

EE-1 stated that foreign doctors “just show up” at MHO [DS: Dr. Fata’s company, Michigan Hematology Oncology, P.C.]. These foreign doctors – who do not have a license to practice medicine in the United States – introduce themselves to patients as “Doctor.”

The unlicensed doctors are generally assigned to examine Dr. Fata’s patients and complete write-ups of their exam. Dr. Fata typically sees his patients for only a few minutes at the end of their typical 2-4 hour visit to the clinic. The rest of the patients’ time is spent with the unlicensed doctors and other MHO staff. This arrangement allows Fata to routinely see 50-70 patients per day while other doctors in his practice see between five and ten.

Dr. Fata’s behavior and rampant, criminal healthcare fraud likely killed many of his patients. But it’s also a lesson in medical reputations, which aren’t always reliable. Fata was consistently rated as one of the best cancer doctors in the area by his colleagues, was repeatedly published, and got National Institutes of Health grants from the government for research and studies. All of that published work and so-called “research” is probably fraudulent, like his medical billings, and may be based on the foreign docs giving chemo to those who didn’t have cancer.

If you were involved in reporting Dr. Fata to authorities in any way (specifically employees EE-1 through EE-5 referenced in the complaint), you should contact me, because you could make a lot of money for the service you performed in whistleblowing. And if you know of someone who is ripping off the government, whether it’s Medicare or Medicaid fraud (as I noted, Muslims and Arabs make up the lion’s share of those who get caught doing this) or something else, please e-mail me, because you could make a lot of money filing a sealed federal Qui Tam lawsuit under the False Claims Act, which forces the feds to investigate and gives the person who reports the fraud a percentage of the recovered money (I’ve filed such suits before and know how to do it).

Dr. Fata isn’t the first, and he won’t be the last. Remember Dr. Hussein “Sam” Awada?

Many more like Awada and Fata in our midst. If you want to help report them (and make some good money in the process), let me know. I can help you.

They must be exposed and stopped.

I agree with this reporters opinion. But the report has smell of racism. There is no place in the planet for what this doctor did and he belongs inside of prison – not because he is middle eastern or Lebanese. He misused his profession and gave a bad name to this profession. This kind of “opinion” should not be published which does not heal any hatred among good people, rather divide and start unrest. This also shows this reporter may be a racist. The jury is still out there.

By the way… his middle name is Antonius- the guy is Christian!

I agree that this is a very racist article. I know nothing of this doctor but I think it is not right to say just because someone is of a certain race that they would commit a crime. This is the same mentality that blames every Jewish person that works in a bank of being a crook. You know better Debbie.

he should go to jail for the rest of his life, here more pictures of him and comments from his patients/victims

Not surprised after our experience with the nose con artist Haitham Masri of Masri Clinic.
Remember he had his license suspended for falsifying records for six months to protect his ass. Its a no brainer that this behavior could no doubt translate into falsifying records to scam medicare as well.
Thanks again for your support and pro bono work when he sued me for defamation.
See Ronald Wolf vs Haitham Masri for details and how he rips off his own people.

Shows how little research you ever do! He is Christian!!! Not all Arabs are Muslims and not all Muslims are Arabs! You spit venom as usual with little consideration! I have not seen much hatred in one person! Get your facts straight!

Nada on August 16, 2013 at 11:03 pm

I don’t think being Muslim (if he is Muslim) is relevant, as other non-Muslim doctor’s commit fraud, most are all about the money; proof? Check out your doctor bills – way too costly for health care.

Also, Debbie, the reporter of this article, is jewish so that explains the racist remarks of Muslims. Funny thing is just last year they ran a news report about doctors committing major Medicare/Medicaid fraud and most of them were jewish.

Bad things are done by people of all colors, sizes, races, genders, ages, etc. Poor journalism practices Debbie S. While you are entitled to speak your opinions, profession journalist report on a non-bias basis. Looks like doctors aren’t the only people doing their profession shame…

Why, when this doctor isn’t Muslim, are all his crimes somehow because he supposedly hired Muslim doctors who did his (Christian) bidding? I saw a very white American type guy interviewed from one of his clinics-if all the doctors are involved, why are we not hearing of the fake doctors being charged? Why is Debbie implying by her entire post that this is somehow an Islamic crime? If the guy is Catholic (probably), is it a catholic crime-will all the crimes of the Vatican get recalled? Are all the brown doctors the guilty ones and the white ones are all just victims along with the patients? I think this is shoddy from the headline on down.

The doctor should suffer as much as possible legally while on this earth and I’d hate to be him in the hereafter-whatever HE believes, I believe there is mercy and if his patients or families dont get it on this earth, they will get it eventually.

It matters not what his religion is. He and everyone engaged in this genocide should hang. 400 cancer cures have been suppressed by Rockafeller’s big pharma and some of them worked 100%. That is a crime against humanity.

JustMe on August 22, 2013 at 5:34 pm

Are all criminals identified andvillified based on religion? Or origin?

m.j.c. on August 23, 2013 at 6:17 pm

first he is a CHRISTIAN, just like 65% of the Lebanese people, LEBANON IS 65% CHRISTIAN,and with the lebanese emigrants you’ll have 80% CHRISTIANS. No arabs here. You’re a racist, even Lebanese Muslims are great people and very civilized.

Vivian on September 29, 2013 at 4:49 pm

The guy is Arab (ethnic) Christian (religion). Does any one have a proof that he was preferring his own ethnic group (Arabs) with sound medical advice while defrauding everyone else who is not Arab? Or preferring Christians over other religious groups? The guy did not make his millions by worrying about that. He is simply a crook who seized any opportunity he can to make money, just like Madoff (Jewish), Keating (Catholic) and Rajaratnam (Hindu). Therefore, for any one to link his actions to his ethnic/religion group without prviding the proof for his favoritisim to that group my advice is to think twice as you need to explain the ohers (Madoff, etc…) actions as well or otherwise it is pure racism. BTW: Do not use the argument that he is worse because he is a killer. If the other three i mentioned were doctors they would have done the same.

How do we know terrorists aren’t becoming doctors to hurt Americans?

Lebanon has nothing to do with that. This guy is an American (Lebanese descent) and he is Christian. You are just racist! you are just as bad as him.

Sam on September 29, 2014 at 11:05 am

Of course the article is racist. The author Debbie Schlussel is a Jew, what do you expect?

Jean on October 17, 2014 at 3:45 am

Amir, I doubt your comment will be deleted for reasons obvious to many of us. And if you’re lucky, DS won’t deign to counter-punch. You ever been slapped silly?

Go “temper” that.

lee of the lower case "l" on August 7, 2013 at 2:49 pm

Amir, you are proving DS’s point about, I’m sorry to say, people of your ethnicity such as yourself, where in the past the Debbie has called out folks of your faith (and ethnicity who’s done horrible and evil stuff) doing all sorts BS stuff pertaining to fraud, and other illegal shady stuff as “Arabs first”, and that’s what you did in your inane comment.

Lookit, who committed medicare fraud and medical fraud, was A) Debbie Schlussel or B) Farid Fata? Answer B) Farid Fata, he needs to be called out and be held responsible for what he allegedly did, oh and BTW if you think DS needs help, I suggest you need some damn help Amir, because she gave out FACTS to back up what’s saying, whether you like it or not.

And if she’s lying, don’t you think that Mr. Fata would’ve found himself a lawyer to sue Ms. Schlussel on defamation and libel, think about it? Also Amir, Debbie is a practicing attorney, she knows her boundaries and limitations and NOT to slander anyone in general, and she’s NEVER been sued for defamation, slander, etc. Let me ask you this Amir, do you know this doctor personally? And if you know him personally, then why aren’t you as outraged as just about all of his here on what he’s allegedly done to his patients of lying to them, committing fraud with them, telling them that they don’t have cancer or any illness in which they happen to, oh and also defrauding the government by BSing the system. I find you worst than this doctor Amir and quite frankly, more dangerous than Dr. Fata!:(

Sean R. on August 7, 2013 at 3:59 pm

sorry amir, but it’s the smart play to avoid arabs and/or muslims when it comes to your health… finances… hell, anything.

you can play dumb with your self-righteous posts’ but you know why just like the rest of us do.

kirche on August 7, 2013 at 3:55 pm

Amir, if you think this article is delusional, then why did DS prove and gave out the “affidavit”? Care to ask that or are you going to continue to deny the facts and believe what you want to believe and continue to demagogue this worthy article that Debbie wrote?

And also, if you think this link is flawed, may I ask you, WTF is your blog or website to at least counter what Debbie explained here about this corrupt and evil doctor for what he did to his patients.

Now you also claimed in your previous message of “what if a white Christian doctor did things similar to Dr. Fata”, well, I got news for you, in the past, DS has indeed done that, called out other corrupt doctors who did the exact samething or similar stuff to what Dr. Fata did, but I’m sorry to say Amir, that doctors from the Middle East happen to be pretty corrupt than doctors here in the US, that is a fact and NOT so-called faux racism. Finally, if you think everyone on this blog is white and of European lineage, I happen to be a man-of-color myself Amir (African-American/Black), who’s a fan and supporter of Debbie Schlussel and her work. We don’t just take everything the messenger here says as gospel, we also do “fact-checking” to see whether or not she’s right or not, where it turns out that DS happens to be “right” on just about everything she presents here (as I said, giving out links from sources between the lines in the article, etc.).

Threatened? You felt threatened? Go back and “temper”.

lee of the lower case "l" on August 7, 2013 at 4:42 pm

“Amir, I doubt your comment will be deleted for reasons obvious to many of us…..”

How strange to be replying to oneself. How very exhilarating.:)

Well, it appears Amir is gone without a trace. I don’t know why. But I do know my quote above is just as valid as if he were still a stain on this thread. i.e, His non-impact post posed not even a superficial challenge to anything in Debbie’s post.

lee of the lower case "l" on August 7, 2013 at 6:33 pm

Not sure who Amir is, but, damn, you have the logic of a 5-year old. Your sentence structure is no better either.

Bruce on August 7, 2013 at 7:18 pm

I would have put a ; between “old” and “Your”.

And thank heavens you’ve never seen my handwriting.

And how about giving me a little credit for not calling you Brucie?

lee of the lower case "l" on August 7, 2013 at 9:09 pm

lee, I agree regarding the semicolon. Brucie is a generic concern troll.

skzion on August 7, 2013 at 10:51 pm

Oh, and Brucie? The “either” is superfluous.

skzion on August 7, 2013 at 10:53 pm

Much thanks and appreciation!
