HUH?! Blacks Say Vegan Cookbook is RAAAAACIST! You’ll Never Guess Why

By Debbie Schlussel

You gotta give it to the race merchants for being consistently inconsistent in their grievance theater. They scream “RAAAYYYYCISM!” when Whites use the the word “thug” to describe criminals, Black or White. And now they’re screaming “RAAAAYCISM!” because some White vegan chefs are calling themselves “thugs,” because Blacks say that the White chefs are “appropriating” “their” term. Huh?! Oh, and did I mention that the White chefs are also being accused of racism because they use four-letter words in their cookbook, and apparently swear words are now also the “property” of Black America, too?

racismblackthugkitchenbook

It’s ridiculous. But such is the case with the book, “Thug Kitchen.” Over the weekend, I saw the book on the New York Times Best-Seller list and wanted to know what it was–a cookbook or a book about mobsters or something. In doing some research on this I discovered that it’s a cookbook by Michelle Davis and Matt Holloway, a couple of White chefs whose book is subtitled, “Eat Like You Give a F*ck.” They tried to keep their identities a secret, and now that people have discovered they aren’t Black, they’ve been accused of racism for “appropriating” the word “thug” and “swear words,” because apparently this image is the sole property of Blacks, and you dare not infringe, lest you be accused of stealing (kinda like Bo Derek was, when she wore cornrows in the 1979 movie, “10”).

The Root, a Black website, calls Thug Kitchen, “Recipes in Blackface.” Yes, all because they use swear-words and call themselves thugs. Oh, and because they’re White. The site accuses the White chefs of “swagger jacking” and “booty-bump[ing]” Blacks. Cool, two new terms to add to my ghetto appropriation vocabulary (and here’s a tip: Blacks, um, booty-jacked the term “ghetto” from my people–Jews were kept in the original ghettos, mostly not by choice).

And even the non-Black political correctness police are mad that the White authors “created a fake thug persona – vulgar, hyper-masculine, snarky and arrogant” and acted “badass in the kitchen.” Apparently, you are only allowed to do this if you are Black. Got that, White people? Not only can’t you jump, you can’t be “badass,” either.

It started off as a tongue-in-cheek vegan food blog, but “Thug Kitchen”, now a cookbook, has been slammed for negatively stereotyping African-Americans after the public discovered the authors were Caucasian.

The authors behind Thug Kitchen, an expletive-ridden food blog and cookbook, were looking forward to visiting Seattle this week to discuss their vegan recipes and America’s relationship with food. The cover of the controversial vegan cookbook, “Thug Kitchen.” They packed their suitcases only to learn Monday they were uninvited. Book Larder, a culinary-themed bookstore in Fremont, decided to cancel a book signing scheduled for Wednesday night over concerns that critics would take over the event. The authors also canceled two events in the San Francisco Bay Area earlier this month after people threatened to disrupt and protest.

Critics call the recently released Thug Kitchen cookbook, subtitled “Eat like you give a f—k,” an example of racism and cultural appropriation. Instead of the book inciting a nuanced discussion of the term thug, a vocal few silenced the conversation in Seattle before it could begin. The controversy started when the authors, Michelle Davis and Matt Holloway, revealed during an interview with Epicurious that they are a pair of white 29 year-olds who live in Hollywood. They had cloaked themselves in anonymity since launching the Thug Kitchen as a blog in 2012.

Part of one of the recipes in Thug Kitchen reads as follows, and is apparently “racism” and a “cultural appropriation of Black culture”:

Roast those sons of bitches for 20 minutes, stirring half way, or until the sprouts are golden and kinda burnt in some places. Goddamn delicious. Just trust. Boiling these tiny cabbage-looking motherf—kers is a crime. ROAST OR GTFO.

Since when are the words “sons of bitches,” “Goddamn,” and “motherf-ckers” or the term “GTFO” (Get The F-ck Out or Off) the sole property of Black people? Since when is the use of them “mocking” or “appropriating” Black culture? Really? Absurd.

But that’s how far the race merchants in America have sunk in order to keep their race grievance theater groove on. Oops, did I just “appropriate” Black culture by using the term “groove on”?

You’d think that Black America would brag about and be proud of its positive achievements and contributions to America instead of claiming dirty language and uncomplimentary words as its own.

And, so, now I’m confused. If you use the word thug to describe a violent person who happens to be Black, you are “RAAAAAAAAYCIST!” But if you use it to describe yourself and you happen to be White, then you are stealing Black culture?

That g-ddamn sh-t’s messed up, motherf-cker. Yup, I just “stole Black culture.”

Got it? Me neither.

By the way, the controversy and attacks by the PC elites was counter-productive. It led many people to buy it, making the book the top cookbook (and the top Advice/How-To book) on the New York Times Best-Seller list, this week.

So, the evil cracka authors are having the last laugh. Laughing all da way to da bank, in fact.

Get Yours . . .

swaggerjacking

As the silly, unfunny promo video for the book, below, shows, it’s hardly “swagger-jacking” Black culture (NOT SAFE FOR WORK). . .

blacks seem to have more than their share of morons and idiots. I have yet to see another culture that uses the english as badly as these people do. Even new citizens who do not have english as their first language are better at speaking, grammar and pronunciation. Its beyond being funny and it indicates possibly a point of retardation in all blacks. Yes inbred retardation may be responsible for their poor performance. But I digress….blacks should learn to get over it..its easier for all.

chuck on October 27, 2014 at 4:05 pm

Chuck, since I happen to be a black person myself, I dispute what you’ve allegedly said by “retardation of blacks” of such stuff, the reason is and why is presumably due to mediocre educational system within parts and elements of the black community, and/or maybe a the educational systems in the black community are equal to those of Whites, Asians, Hispanics, etc., but possibly, some folks of my ethnicity tends to be intellectually lazy-minded?

I’m not an anthropologists or a neuroscientist, but they can figure out and multiply 2-@-2 together and figure out such conscious-behavior.

And to the OT, to me with this cookbook, I don’t see or understand how the terminologies “thug”, “sons of bitches”, etc. correlates to Black-USA? NOT all of us use such languages when we’re having conversations and debates, whenever I talk to anyone, they’re impressed with the way I speak to them, because I speak good to great English (yes on some occasions, when I talk, I stutter a little, due to me thinking too quick, where I have to slow down a little despite that little flaw in me). And I just hope that one of these days before I pass away, that our educational system here in the United States is a tad better than it is right now (not saying our educational system is bad, it’s good but can be great and superior like many societies and cultures outside of the US)!

I had the pleasure of working with the first Black graduate of University of South Alabama’s medical school and his cousin, both of whom were superb physicians that I would gladly let take care of my family (as a Consultant, you learn a LOT about the primary care practices).

He is best who trains in the severest school. The best pediatric neurosurgeon in the world, which is to say the best doctor in the hardest medical specialty, was for many years a Black guy, who grew up lower class in Detroit.

That being said, there are people who are overly sensitive in every subgroup.

In this situation, it is a Liberal thing. Liberals tend to be idiots, regardless of skin color. Or, to capture the illogic, “irregardless” of skin color.

      G-d Bless You, Sean.

    Chuck,
You show what lying pricks white people really are. Your women sure like to suck black dick to say they are so bad. I’ve never seen a bunch of self righteous, prideful, manipulating, meth using, flesh eating, shooting up school, trailer park living assholes like white people either. And your language isn’t the best either. British people speak correct English, not you. You are the reason blacks don’t get over racism, you make the white race look bad.

Debbie,

Don’t forget Illegal Pete’s in Colorado.

The list of things that offend people these days is legion.

NormanF on October 27, 2014 at 4:19 pm

Like anyone is going to buy the book and actually eat that shit?

#1 Vato on October 27, 2014 at 4:25 pm

Well, I guess White unwed mothers, White dysfunctional families in general, White drug addicts, White rioters, etc., etc. are also racists then.

Little Al on October 27, 2014 at 4:29 pm

“…all da way to da bank”

I think the correct Ebonics spelling is “tha”, but I’m not a professor of Ebonics so I could be wrong.

    what _if_you_just_feel_black_? on October 27, 2014 at 6:07 pm

Oh come on, Deb… everyone knows Richard Pryor invented the term “mother fu**er” in the 70’s, and then passed it on to Samuel L. Jackson. Anyone else who uses it be jackin.

Frak on October 27, 2014 at 4:46 pm

But, in a different vein, I have mixed feelings about this cookbook. I’m always in favor of healthy eating, and although I have not seen this cookbook, I assume that at least some of the recipes are healthy.

But, in general, I am against the coarsening of language, because I think it leads to, and is associated with, the coarsening of behavior.

So while they deserve credit for a clever idea, it is sad that they thought they had to do something like this to sell their book.

Little Al on October 27, 2014 at 5:12 pm

Terrific! typical whities glorifying a barbaric subculture. You can bet that if these guys have money, they are limousine liberals.

skzion on October 27, 2014 at 5:29 pm

if everything in the cookbook was mispelled and gramatically wrong and verb conjugation nonexistent, THEN it would be beyond black-jacking because it would hit a bit too close to da ‘hood.

what _if_you_just_feel_black_? on October 27, 2014 at 6:06 pm

Sounds like another episode of “Alien VS Predator” to me. Pompous Vegans and played Blacks having a go at each other. May neither win.

This controversy proves both of these groups should be shuttled to the burning sun. Vegans are ANNOYING and SANCTIMONIOUS (and I am a vegetarian, BTW) and think they are better than everyone else. Just like that bratty Ebola nurse from NH. I hope people know difficult and un-fun it is to eat Vegan. I do admire how they shun foods and things I don’t (and won’t…EVER) but not how they go about it. It’s off-putting and ruins their initial purpose. You’re Vegan? Big whoop, nobody cares! Stop trying to be above all and ruin everyone else’s enjoyment.

And the played Blacks? This proves they have bought into the unseemly slavery White Libtards have fooled them with. At this point in the game, I really don’t care anymore because if they are this gone from using the brain God gave ’em, they deserve to be played. Trouble with that is that they use the false premise to cow all others into putting up with their nonsense. A good chunk of ’em know it and just capitalize on the PC atmosphere. Not nice no matter how you slice it. Then you got the sad dopes who think being ignorant and embarrassing is “Black”. Jokes on them. It would be sad if it wasn’t so funny!

I do like great vegan food when I get to indulge but I will tell you it is very hard to eat and acquire and not all have the palate for it. It causes NOTHING but headaches for those wanting to eat that way and those stuck with a pesky Vegan in the group. Their uppity attitudes don’t help either.

(I’m out of characters to use so this may be my last post ’til the problem is remedied. My posts have not been going thru’ at all…I’m out of characters to use…This may not even go thru’, actually.)

..Skunky on October 27, 2014 at 6:08 pm

Debbie, are you really surprised? You’ve probably seen and analyzed enough decay, incompetence and implosion to know that this is just what happens when you give people carte blanche to whine and complain and use mythical persecution as a way to explain away every rotten, filthy aspect of their lives and their communities.

Expect to be disappointed and you’ll never be disappointed. This is just what Black America devolves into. It happens street after street, neighborhood after neighborhood, city after city, until it finally permeates every facet of our society. If I’m lying, then I would love to know why the race pimps seem to be more abundant now and more active than ever. Grievance Inc. has become so large that you almost can’t even blink without having to make sure aren’t offending someone. Well, if you are White then this applies. If you are not White, then you can pretty much do and say whatever you want as long as there is a White person within blaming distance.

Celestial Time on October 27, 2014 at 6:11 pm

Why, it’s Celestial Slime! rather than condemn black subculture, Celestial Slime makes a genetic argument against blacks. or rather, he will make one if given enough rope.

skzion on October 27, 2014 at 9:36 pm

I suppose Sean Combs, Beyonce, et al. will be mailing checks out to all the suburban white folk who are prohibited from offending someone by enjoying, er stealing, black music and culture.

nadie on October 27, 2014 at 6:48 pm

Do the chefs have their own restaurant? If so, and they are ripping off black culture, then their eatery would take food stamps and EBT cards.

CornCoLeo on October 27, 2014 at 9:24 pm

Uhhhhhh, let’s see. I was called “white motherf_cker” before 1970, so Richard Pryor did not invent that term in 1970.

I would love to comment, but Skunky covered my feelings about vegans pretty well, and with a lot more class than I could.

As for the other stuff, wellllll, in my day, LONG BEFORE CRIPS AND BLOODS, the word ‘thug’ always meant a hard core criminal, a gangster (think Italian, Irish or other hard core organized gangsters, yes, including Jews), or anyone who could erupt into wanton violence against society regardless of ethnicity.

I would love to comment, but I’m not black, so that exempts me. I don’t need to wait to be told that I’m not qualified, I’ll disqualify myself right here. As a matter of fact, since I’ve been seeing the handwriting on the wall about this “once great republic” since Elvis died, . . .

I’ll just go for the old ‘if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em’ postulate. Okay gang, see you around, I’m off to join the Hitlary Rotten C_nton bandwagon. If you smell peanut dust around here in the future, it’s just me trolling.

Sorry, I tried, but I’m too weak. I’m not black, I’m not a REAL Puerto Rican, just show me to any Nuyorican. I’m blond haired, blue eyed and pasty white, plus I don’t subscribe to the terms ‘Latino’ and ‘Hispanic.’

So, I won’t comment here. See ya. Sniff, sniff, . . .

they’re breakin’ up that ol’ gang o’ mine. Sniff, sniff, hic, sob, sniff, snorkle.

Alfredo from Puerto Rico on October 27, 2014 at 10:18 pm

Reminds me of Elvis Presley. Popular books claim he “stole” or “copied” stage moves/music from Blacks. Now some Blacks are admitting it was the OTHER way around: BLACKS COPIED ELVIS!!!
The truth hurts…

Irene on October 27, 2014 at 11:07 pm

There is no value to a cookbook that uses this kind of language. That African-Americans think there is value to this kind of language tells me everything I need to know.

Sincerely,

There is NO Santa Claus (aka TINSC)

There is NO Santa Claus on October 28, 2014 at 12:08 am

The Blacks who are making an issue of this are quite foolish, time wasters and sh*t stirrers. All of us who posted a comment today knows that the vulgar language and slang used in this book is negative and is frowned upon. Yet these Black Defenders fight to claim it and fight for it as its something to be proud of. Unreal. Fools.

Then if you do attribute it to Black culture “oh now you’re stereotyping and demeaning Blacks. Gtfoh. These Black Defenders want it both ways.

Same crap Russel Wilson the Black Seattle Seahawks Q.B is dealing with. (His teamates say he ain’t Black enough. Meaning he doesn’t act ignorant enough for them. Lol. Unbelievable.

They want it both ways ” Hey don’t stereotype us” “Hey you don’t act Black enough” Black America is confused and these self appointed “Leaders” “Black Defenders” don’t help at all. Black Exacerbators. Call em B.E’s for now on.

As for the word Thug, you all know how the street slang flips words and takes a word with a negative connotation and make it positve. I.E, “that’s bad” “that song was dope” well Thug took on a meaning of that guy is a “badass” or let’s say Debbie obliterated some attorney with her arguments, and won a big major case” Someone could say ” Yo my nigga, you should higher D.S, she’s a straight Thug in that courtroom.

Yeah you gotta luv that street slang lol

@ Irene- wth are you talkin bout, like Blacks cant and didn’t dance. Some arguments are senseless and the truth is apparent. It really doesn’t matter, it doesnt add or take away from the mans legacy.

MrBigBrain on October 28, 2014 at 3:35 am

The black PC crowd is just envious of the Thug Cookbook.

One of the seven deadly sins. Envy.

But originally the bad language was white.

Like “pick that cotton faster you mother fuckers, etc.

Panhandle on October 28, 2014 at 9:17 am

How is the term “thug” ripping off black culture anyway? The term was the name of mafia-like tribes in India. If these chefs are ripping anybody off it’s actually Indians.

C: And the original Indian thugs or Thugees were a Muslim tribe in India. DS

CornCoLeo on October 28, 2014 at 10:26 am

I for one agree that thug culture is black culture. And we don’t need any Vanilli Ice vegan wannabes.

Federale on October 28, 2014 at 11:33 am

Interesting Debbie and other commenters keep saying “the blacks this” and “the blacks that” when 99% of black folks couldn’t care less about the Thug Kitchen cookbook.

Lunnty on October 28, 2014 at 2:10 pm

So funny how idiots will out themselves. Attempting to own the most guttural stuff and getting offended in this way is so crazy words can’t describe.
Alien vs Predator scenario for sure. There is a palpable instinct to attempt to bully others as well, which is also no surprise.
This is one of those articles that was as fun to read the comments as it was reading the original article.

samurai on October 29, 2014 at 8:58 am

Skunky, you nailed it. Alien vs Predator is what I thought reading this – Vegan activists vs Black Racists. Just the sorta thing to open the popcorn.

TINSC, I think the reason they went for this sort of language is that few are interested in Vegan cooking in the first place, and there’s no way this book would move if not for the curiosity element. Although as Debbie pointed out, the outcry over the race of the authors made this book sell more than it would or should have.

Infidel on October 29, 2014 at 7:31 pm

This reminds me of arrogant Spike Lee going to court over a tv channel called Spike, citing the company stole his name. The judge informed him that he did not own the word “Spike”. Case dismissed. Next.
