Howard Stern on Debbie Schlussel in Today’s Detroit Free Press

By Debbie Schlussel
Here’s what Howard Stern had to say about me in today’s Detroit Free Press:
“And there may be room somewhere for metro Detroit conservative gadfly Debbie Schlussel, a regular caller to his current show.
‘I was listening to a tape of hers the other day. I said, ‘I’ve got to give Debbie some airtime on the channel.’ I’m going to do something with Debbie. I like Debbie. She’s very polarizing, which, hey, I can relate to.’
That’s always been Stern’s defense, that he’s a divisive figure only because the public isn’t used to honesty from the media.”

Howard Stern: “King of All Media” Rhapsodizes About Debbie Schlussel

Although I’m steeled to the many unfounded insults hurled my way over the years, I’m not sure why the reporter of this piece chose to gratuitously, falsely insult me by calling me a “gadfly,” since she frequently contacts me for quotes for various stories she writes in the Free Press. I wonder if she: 1) even knows what “gadfly” means; and 2) would like it if I called her “a hackneyed pop culture blowhard reporteratrix.” I think the answer is probably “no” on both counts.

OK Debbie, let’s get to the real issue. What do you think of Howard moving to satellite and will you be there too?

The liberals hate HS because he doesn’t take the BS. Sure, his show has lots of bathroom and sex humor, hey, no one forces you to listen to him. He’s got a lot of airtime to fill so this could be a great opportunity for you.

Maybe you and Beth O can do each other’s nails. Is she Jewish?

I think Stern is making the right move to go to satellite. But, I am skeptical it will be a big time success. It depends how much he can edit himself. If it’s just a bunch of raunchy talk and bits it will lose it’s edge quickly.
I think the government definitely overreacted after that tramp Jackson’s Super Bowl bit, but I personally think there has to be some standards for TV and radio on the public airwaves.
Debbie, you’re not a gadfly, but you definitely are polarizing, which I like a lot.

Gadfly? Hardly. If anything Stern registers on the gadfly meter.
Keep up the good work Debbie – you are the lady!

he’s got a lot of airtime to fill and the knowledge that he”s got lots of folks that are not going to pay money knowing the money goes to the likes of Artie L.But it is a great opportunity for Debbie to build on.Adam C.who will be taking over here in So. California may prove to be good for Debbie also. But some of the ones HS works with now have no love of Debbie or her work.

Anyone speculating on what numbers of subs Sirius has to bring in over the next year to justify Stern’s 100 mil per year? 10 mil? 20 mil? Right now it looks challenging. I would say the only way they are going to get that high is if they dump the subscription rate to $3-$4 and start running 3-4 mins ads per hour.

HOPEFULLY you’ll do the show screener free & just hang up on people NOT capable of getting to the point…and you take a few calls from Artie…LOL

Looks like the reporter is using a less common definition of “gadfly” if it was meant complimentary. “provocative; goad” Debbie certainly is provocative and while “goad” is a bit negative, does get people to do things.

Debbie,
So Howard Stern calls and Rush Limbaugh calls, both at the same time and both want you to come on at that moment, whose program are you going on?

John Sobieski: Both liberals and conservatives hate Stern. The government loves Whoprah: Negro woman of the South. Oh and Dan the Man:
“H stern +Artie L.need your money please pay (month to month)and get to hear Arite blast a siren when Debbie calls in .
