Debbie – Great post – I cannot beleive that self-hating Jews have reached the pinnacle of American-Jewish charitable organizations.

I have a question I was hoping you could answer. For years (since I was a child in Jewish Sunday school) I have been buying trees in Israel, as a means to provide a very symbolic and practical way to help Israel maintain its presence (I was very moved, as a Canadian, to visit Canada Park – run by the JNF – in 1982 and plant a tree there myself); today my own 3 children come home every year from Parochial Jewish School with the forms to buy trees and we usually buy at least two for each of them. How can Jews in the Diaspora maintain this, in my opinion, worthwhile practice without insuring that our money does not go into the hands of liberal-guilt-ridden Jews who now appear to run these organizations?

By the way, here in Canada we have the Canadian Jewish Congress, who thinks that funds donated to it are better spent on “Muslim Outreach Programs” than in insuring that money is available to help Jewish parents pay for their children’s religious education, or in combatting widespread anti-Semitism on university campuses.

People make mistakes. In this instance, the mistake is so large and so obvious that it needs to be corrected quickly. Just because Share Zedek is a “wonderful organization” doesn’t mean a mistake like this should be allowed to fester.

Thank you, Ms. Schlussel, for your in-depth look into this cesspool of progressive glad-handing (along with all the rest of your posts). This one troubles me in particular because our family are Christian supporters of Israel and back in June I sponsored a tree to be planted to commemorate my parents’ 35th wedding anniversary through Trees For Israel, part of JNF. I won’t lend any further support to them , rest assured. Please keep up the great work.
