R.I.P. Patrick. Red Dawn is one of my all-time favorites, it is my very favorite of his films. Why is it that we hear about Michael Jackson dying every day but Patrick Swayze gets just one day in the news? Uncommon Valor was awesome too. We lost a great actor.

Uncommon Valor (with Gene Hackman), was one of his better macho roles and a dam good movie.

Debbie, thanks for the tip about a genetic component. However, I believe Swayze admitted he was an alcoholic and heavy smoker since a very young age. I am sure that may have contributed to his condition.

It is very sad. I have my copy of “Red Dawn” at home.

My beloved grandmother on my mother’s side also died of pancreatic cancer. The pain she went through was horrible.

Greetings and Salutations:

My own mother died of pancreatic cancer.

Yep, I liked “NORTH AND SOUTH” and “RED DAWN”.

I also liked “DIRTY DANCING” and “GHOST”.

I didn’t know they were “chick flicks”, or I’d probably never have watched them.

I ain’t in to “chick flicks”, unless they star Renee Zellweger, because I’m a BIG fan of Renee Zellweger, and I do want to kiss those lips, as in her movie, “DOWN WITH LOVE”.

I reckon I liked “DIRTY DANCING” because I liked the Rock ‘n’ Roll music from my youth, and I liked looking at the girls making their moves.

I remember seeing a girl at the University of Utah who looked EXACTLY like Jennifer Grey, but when I mentioned it to her, she acted nervous, and seemed insulted.

I liked “GHOST” because it had a lot of good action scenes.

Swayze was married to Lisa Niemi from June 12, 1975 until his death (34 years in Hollywood!).

The couple first met in 1970 when Swayze was 18 years old. Niemi, 14 years old at the time, was taking dance lessons from Swayze’s mother.

Swayze and Niemi had no children.

I particular admire his lack of hubris and exceptionalism in the face of his death sentence. He never said, “I’m gonna lick this thing!” (Like so many stars before him) he said “According to the odds I have at best several years….” It has more dignity.

“Next of Kin” is one of my favorite B movies. It also has Liam Neeson. Fun action movie about hillbillies taking down the Mob.
