I’m surprised that they allow you to talk like that in the jail that the US has become. Most of the westerners which I know seem to have locks on their mouths.

Debbie, Thanks for posting some condemnation of this common felon. YOU GO, GIRL — keep takin’ on the evil monsters of this world, no matter who or what they are! I can’t understand why the French want somebody like this in their country. I’m sure he has created new victim populations everywhere he has gone since fleeing American justice, as sex crimes have the very highest recidivism rates of any class of offenses. Of course he will claim that he was forced to flee by a corrupt judge who went back on his word regarding the plea agreement. Fine. We have a system in place to address such alledged abuses. It is called the court of appeals, not Air France!

you are polarizing the issue. he was guilty, but the punishment was not equivalent to the standard sentence of the time. considering the trauma the man had dealt with during the era, you would consider that the judge would have empathy. it was obvious that it was anti-semitism. he wasn’t getting a fair trial. …I’ve read a bit about the trial and I don’t condemn underage sex, but considering our government does regular business with countries that have organized marriage with 12 year olds in their legal system… it seems a bit arbitrary to throw the book till we cut off all ties to Saudi Arabia

I’ve read (can’t remember where, sorry) that he had lawyers trying to make the guilty plea go away, arguing that the prosecution wasn’t trying to extradite him. This reminded the DA’s office that the case existed and they decided to go after him.

From a political standpoint, I think going after him is great for the DA. While Hollywood will be angry, the rest of the voters will like the idea of not letting millionaire molesters get away with this.

The case reminds me of an essay Orwell wrote about Salvador Dali. Dali was a great artist but was disgustingly antisocial and physically violent towards women. Orwell’s point was that being a talented artist didn’t absolve the artist of sins or crimes. It used to be the tradition that priests weren’t subject to the normal court system but instead were judged by an ecclesiastical court. The self-selected elite seem to feel that this concept should apply to them. If you are a liberal, you can leave women to drown in cars while you establish an alibi and sleep it off. You can lie about climate data and state the science is settled. You can go on television and say a tax isn’t a tax. You can also, it seems, rape a child for several hours and flee the country.

Roman Polanski is a great filmmaker. His work deserves the acclaim it’s received. Roman Polanski raped a child. No work of art, no scientific discovery, no military or political success makes that okay. He left the country, which stopped the clock on the statute of limitations. He should suffer the legal consequences of raping a child and fleeing prosecution. I hope that after he has served his time he makes more movies.

Perhaps the essence of the culture war and the political struggle is that one side feels there are absolutes and the other side doesn’t.

I am boycotting the Today show and its sponsors over their defensive treatment of that pedophile Polanski. I read the transcript of the trial and had to go to the bathroom since I began heaving, imagining if one of my daughters had had something like that happen. I think we have got to send a message to Hollywood. This is a defining moment I think in the rotting decay they have created and continue to impose on our society. This man was referred to by the LA Times back then as “Hollywood pedophile” implying that he had done this before. And we know he had a sexual relationship with Natasha Kinski at age 15 after he left the US. I bet there are plenty more and I would bet he used drugs and alcohol before to accomplish this. The poor woman now probably doesn’t want to dredge all this painful stuff up and be the subject of the press. I hope this will not be swept under the carpet as a minor matter. To me this is a defining moment about the complete breakdown of any morals in our entertainment industry and noncable networks. What has our country come to?

Polanski’s evil perverted carcass should be kicked to the curb, then thrown under the bus, then deposited under the jail and the key to said under-jail resting place be chunked into the deepest part of the deepest sea.

That said, I do believe that the PARENTS of the then-13-year-old girl who was posing nude for a then-44-year-old amoral film director who was feeding her champagne and quaaludes and then having his wicked way with her, should also be brought to trial. Parents are supposed to PROTECT their children from this kind of danger! It is child abuse if they don’t. This girl was raped by more than one person.

And yes, Whoopi, I mean RAPED RAPED. You ignoramus.

WAKE UP, PARENTS. As much as is in your power, it is your responsibility to know where your children are, who they’re with, and what they’re doing. Always.
