Debbie Schlussel: "Crescent" City: Where is ACLU on N'Awlins' Islamic Religious Symbol?
Where is the ACLU when you need them? Well, if it involves opposing the one religion the "civil liberties" group loves--Islam--don't look for the ACLU to go on the offensive, or do much of anything at all.
New Orleans is known as "the Crescent City." Accordingly, all of its police cars and the insignia on the hats of law enforcement are covered with not just a crescent, but a crescent with a star (you may have noticed in the continuing news coverage of Katrina's aftermath).
But this symbol is a religious symbol--that of Islam. So why is the ACLU allowing it? Imagine if New Orleans was known as "the Cross City," and its insignia was a cross. We'd be hearing all kinds of yelling and screaming about the separation of church and state. And you can bet there would be an ACLU lawsuit.
So where is the ACLU? I hear crickets chirping . . . . but not much else.
