Debbie Schlussel: Bad News: Alien Student Admissions to U.S. Schools Up 12%
On the heels of yesterday's news that at least 10 Egyptian "students" on visas never showed up to class at Montana State University--and are somewhere in America (it was 11, but they found one in Minnesota), it's hardly good news that admissions to foreigners is up at America's colleges and universities. And that's just at the graduate level.
According to the Council of Graduate Schools, U.S. graduate schools offered admission to 12% more foreign students this year than in 2005. That's not cause for celebration and isn't a sign of "recovery" as the organization claims. It's a sign of delusion.
There is a sliver of a silver lining, though: Admissions offers to students from the Middle East declined by 2% for the first time (last year, they went up 12%). That, too, is mitigated by the fact that many terror-supporting Muslims live in Europe, not the Mid-East. And many come here ostensibly to study, but actually for more nefarious purposes.
