Debbie Schlussel: Bobby Knight Agrees w/ Schlussel on NBA Rule Prohibiting High Schoolers

By Debbie Schlussel

When the NBA prohibits high school grads from joining the NBA draft and requiring them to wait a year, guess who gets hurt? Here's a hint: It's not the NBA's billionaire owners, like loudmouth Mark Cuban.

Here's another hint: It's you, the taxpayers. While NBA-wannabes who have no business being in college--and don't want to be there--wait it out for a year, you're paying for them to go to college . . . and not go to class, anyway.

That's Bobby Knight's position. And it's been mine for a very long time, too. It's simply an anti-free market--and anti-taxpayer--rule, made to help billionaires and colleges get along . . . and take you for an expensive ride.

AP quotes Knight:

Because now you can have a kid come to school for a year and play basketball and he doesn't even have to go to class. He certainly doesn't have to go to class the second semester. I'm not exactly positive about the first semester. But he would not have to attend a single class the second semester to play through the whole second semester of basketball.

Yet another reason I like Bobby Knight--the original "Coach K."
