Debbie Schlussel: Happy Veterans Day!: We Recognize & Honor You Who Keep Us Free
**** UPDATE: It appears the Veterans poem is from the Good Old Dogs Website. ****
Yes, I know yesterday was the real Veteran's Day. But since the federal government is celebrating it today, I am, too. This little poem has been making its way around the Internet. I wish I knew the identity of the author (if you, please let me know), so I could give proper credit. It is 100% correct, and I think it encompasses what Veterans' Day is about.
They say Veterans' Day is about the living soldiers and Memorial Day is about those who died serving our country. But I think both days should celebrate both, since they give so much so that we can be free and I can continue having this site. (Today, I also recognize my favorite veteran, my late father, who proudly served in the Army, Army National Guard, and Reserves, all during Vietnam.):

It is the VETERAN , not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion. It is the VETERAN , not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press. It is the VETERAN , not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech. It is the VETERAN , not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble. It is the VETERAN , not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the VETERAN , not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.It is the VETERAN ,
who salutes the Flag.It is the VETERAN ,
who serves under the Flag,
whose coffin is draped by the Flag.[For Those Veterans Who've Passed On,] ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.
VETERANS KNOW THAT THE OATH OF ALLEGIANCE HAS NO EXPIRATION DATE.
