Debbie Schlussel: Tragic ICE Princess "Results": Illegal Aliens Drain Cancer Treatment for Galveston's' Poor

By Debbie Schlussel

If ever there was a story that told us immigration enforcement under Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) chieftess Julie L. Myers a/k/a The ICE Princess is a disaster, it's this one:

Cancer care for the poor at University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston is in jeopardy and is being drained by illegal aliens, endangering it for the Americans.

The UTMB set aside about $12 million to treat all impoverished cancer patients, which isn't enough because of the illegal aliens using it. The hospital does not keep track of which cancer patients it treats are "undocumented." 21% of the uninsured in Texas are illegal aliens, according to the Center for Immigration Studies.

The hospital is considering denying medical care to illegal aliens to stop this funding shortfall and not jeopardize the health of poor American citizens there. And to that, I say, "good luck."

The fact is that illegal aliens--as we all know--use fake documents, fake social security numbers, etc. The hospital will now have to do the job that ICE--under Julie Myers--is not doing. And unless hospital administrators and doctors want a second profession in document fraud, one wonders how they will be able to successfully detect and turn away illegal aliens. That's not to mention the many doctors and administrators who generally know these people are not here legally but look the other way. Good luck getting them to change. And good luck with the resulting lawsuits.

I'm all for hospitals denying these illegals care. That should have happened long ago. And a federal law--requiring Medicaid and Medicare recipients to sign documents and provide proof that they are U.S. citizens--is unfortunately on hold due to illegal alien rights groups' lawsuit against it.

But, six-plus years after 9/11, this problem should have been eradicated. It's only getting worse.

Meanwhile, The ICE Princess is singing the same old tune--blaming her incompetence and failure on a lack of "comprehensive immigration reform" a/k/a illegal alien amnesty.

Check this out from her letter, yesterday, to the Dallas Morning News, which justifiably dissed ICE (that means her) for curtailing a successful Texas program to catch illegal aliens (because she isn't ready?!) and put the lie to her claim that "Catch & Release" has ended (it hasn't):

[A]bsent comprehensive immigration reform, ICE must prioritize efforts and make the best use of limited resources in the face of a seemingly limitless problem.

Um, if the problem is "limitless" and unfixable, who told you to take the helm at this agency? Oh, yeah--you picked yourself.

Essentially, she's saying she can't stop crime, so why enforce it.

Yes, and instead of "let them eat cake," Myers says Let Them Die of Cancer. (Or dress up in Blackface.)

Julie, Yer Doin' a Heckuva Job.
