Debbie Schlussel: Funniest (& Tasteless) Holiday Card of the Year
I've received many Chanukah and Christmas cards this year (thanks to the readers who sent me e-cards!).
My favorite one is from my friends, Patrick and Katherine Stethem, brother and sister-in-law of Hezbollah-assassinated Navy diver Robert Dean Stethem. In 1985, he was tortured to death by Hezbollah on hijacked TWA Flight 847 because he was an American, a member of our military, and refused--despite all of their torture tactics--to denounce America. The Stethem's card, with pics of their three beautiful kids--one of whom is named for their late brother, is a reminder to me that there are great, patriotic Americans who are willing to fight the enemy and pay the ultimate price. It is also a reminder to me that we can prevail and survive, if we have the will. Stethem's nieces and nephews are living evidence of that.
On a much lighter and tasteless note, I also received this hilarious card from my friend, former House Republican staffer and now-lobbyist Jason Roe, the smart guy and smart aleck who heads the Federal Strategy Group . . .

I'm surprised a lobbying group had the chutzpah to send something like this out. But, occasionally, humorless Washington departs from its predictable self. Very rarely, though.
Wide Stance.
