Shlemielberg's "Munich" Remains Box Office Bust

It's official. Steven Spielberg's "Munich" is a box office bust.

It may have gotten critical acclaim from some (but not all) left-wing movie critics. But the critics who matter--moviegoers--have said "Thumbs Down" for several weeks, now, to "Munich."

In theaters for over a month, "Munich" has made just under $33 million, yet cost over $70 million to make. In the last week, it dropped from #6 to #11 at the box office.

Mazel Tov, Shlemielberg: Sympathizing w/ Terrorists a Huge Failure

One of the most popular blogs, Captain's Quarters, criticized my post after "Munich's" first weekend at the box, saying my calling it a failure was premature. But I was right, and now entering week five, my statement continues to be borne out.

"Munich" is a failure. The free market and the American viewing public have spoken. They don't like movies that sympathize with terrorists and tell us not to fight the War on Terror.

Let's hope Hollywood will finally listen.

What a shame.

Given the results of the Golden Globe Awards (are they still available to the highest bidder like they were for Pia Zadora?) I rather doubt Hollywood is listening.

It's those silly homo romance fans fault!

Ha ha ha....on Drudge it says Shlemielberg is blaming the studio for not giving it the Chokeback Mountain hype. Those gay cowboys are just so doggone cute and loveable.

I'm sure Shlemielberg and his robots think simple minded America just doesn't "get" such a complicated, nuanced film. That's just it, the audience does "get it."

Looking at the box office for Chokeback Mountain and Munich it looks like neither is setting box office records.

Hollywood has punctured an artery full of cash and they only have themselves to blame. The first rule of show business is to give the people what they want. This would never happen if the industry moved to New York. See, in New York everything is money and they haven't forgotten that so they still make plenty of it. In New York they'd have no problem making patriotic and/or fairly conservative movies no matter what their opinions really are. But in L.A. whatever they're smoking has taken its toll.

My signin finally took!!! Debbie, saw and read your participation in the frontpagemag symposium on this movie. I haven't seen it and don't plan to having pretty much given up on Hollywood after most of them resorted to Bush bashing. No sense donating time and money to the enemy. As far as Spielberg is concerned, he hasn't done anything worth watching since the Indiana Jones movies. Even the last in the series was a bit sappy. The last movie of his I viewed was Saving Private Ryan which to me was an exercise in melodrama and pretense. Hope he chokes financially.
