Live From Egypt: BS Quote of the Week

By Debbie Schlussel

In announcing Egypt's bans of the novel and film, "The Da Vinci Code," Egyptian Culture Minister Farouk Hosni announced that,

"We ban any book that insults any religion."

Oh, really?

Hmmm . . . Then, why, is "Mein Kampf" number one on the Egyptian best-sellers list? Maybe the Egyptians simply don't believe Judaism is a religion. Or perhaps they view the book as a "compliment" to that religion. And, not to mention, as reader "Son of Sheldon" reminds us, "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," also perpetually selling like hot cakes in Egypt.

Egypt's Book-Banning Hypocrisy

We especially loved the comment by Egyptian Coptic Christian Member of Parliament Georgette Sobhi in the debate over the ban of "The Da Vinci Code":

"It's based on Zionist myths."

Great strategy--Attack Judaism when denouncing a book that attacks Christianity, written by a . . . Christian.

Debbie Schlussel notes that while Egyptian Culture Minister Farouk Hosni claims that his nation bans "any book that insults any religion", including The Da Vinci Code, there are definitely exceptions that he's willing to make. Like Mein Kampf. Oh, and... [Read More]

And don't forget the popularity of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. But I understand they consider that a Jewish holy book . . . Or do they say that just to promote Jew-hatred? . . . Nah . . . that would be an insult to a religion.

Bad strategy–Sounds like Georgette has been EVANGELIZED by ISLAM, rather than by her own Coptic Orthodox Christian faith.

APPARENTLY she is a Christian, yet she SOUNDS LIKE a Muslim~

I hear that the DIMINISHING Copts are struggling to even educate their clergy…

So there you have it…this is the expected fallout…frothing WILD-EYED ignorance from THEIR flock~
