Me in USA Today on Katie Couric "Today" Departure
Thanks to USA Today TV & Radio/Media writer, Peter Johnson, for asking my opinion on the Empress with No Clothing Good-bye Party a/k/a Katie Couric's last day on the "Today" show, yesterday.
I'm quoted in his story about it in today's USA Today. Too bad he left out most of my comments which were far more harsh on Perky Katie.
Here's the quote he used:
Conservative blogger Debbie Schlussel, a Couric critic, found the three hours Today devoted to Couric "an overabundance of worship. ... It was as if a new queen of the universe was being anointed."

Here's the entire set of comments I sent him about yesterday's Katie confab:
An overexuberant version of the Empress in no clothing. An overabundance of worship unworthy for the Valley Girl of morning television. It was as if a new queen of the universe was being anointed. Kind of sickening.I also noted there were several things missing: clips of her bad attempts at hipness over the years, like using terms like "stoked" and other words and phrases better relegated to Jeff Spicoli and "Fast Times at Ridgemont High." There was no clip of her pulling down her thong underwear as she prepared for her live on-air colonoscopy. That was one of the low points of The Today Show, and a moment that made even Jerry Springer blush. No clip of her exchange with Ann Coulter, which made for great TV, but not great Katie. In short, today's good-bye show was a lot of hype, pomp and circumstance over a girl they picked up from a local Virginia TV station. She could have been working at the gap at the local Virginia mall. (Not that it would not have made a difference.) I don't look for her to gain the respect of nightly news colleagues on the various networks. They don't talk like Spicoli, do thong removals or gratuitous cleavage shots on the cover of AARP.
