EXCLUSIVE/OUTRAGE: BOYCOTT "Miami Vice"--New Movie Defames Israeli Defense Forces

Printer Friendly

By Debbie Schlussel

When it comes to drug dealers and illicit drug makers do you think of Columbian drug cartels . . . or Israeli Soldiers?!

In an outrageous choice from wardrobe, the latter is apparently what the new "Miami Vice" movie--a horrid, very long and boring remake of the '80s TV series, in theaters Friday--wants you to think. (Read my full review, Friday.)

In a scene toward the beginning of the 2-hour-plus movie, the Miami Vice guys bust a drug warehouse. The main drug dealer they arrest in the warehouse is wearing a giant Israeli Defense Forces T-shirt, just like the one pictured above. (I own one, and often wear it as a night-shirt). It features the Israeli abbreviation "Tzahal," which stands for Tzava HaGanah L'Yisrael--literally, "The Army That Defends Israel" or "Israel Defense Forces," as it is commonly known.

It's a quick scene and a minor detail, but I noticed it big-time. And the placement of the IDF T-shirt was deliberate and noticeable. Not to mention, GRATUITOUS! So, just how many Israeli soldiers wearing Tzahal/IDF shirts do you know? We don't know any either. And we've never read a single news report that there are any. At a time when Israeli soldiers are being held captive by Islamic terrorist groups and fighting for the very survival of Israel against these subhumans, it's hardly the time for a trashy '80s remake to defame them as drug dealers. In fact, it's never the time for that.

But don't tell that to the anti-Israel, PC phonies who run Hollywood. Show them in another way: BY BOYCOTTING "MIAMI VICE." Shame on Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx for allowing this propaganda.

Naturally, he wouldn't be wearing a Che Guevara T-shirt....

Where can I get one of those shirts?

It's actually a backhanded compliment in a way. It sounds like the Israeli was running the show. and if this was an Ectasy ring it's pretty realistic. Anyway, could you post a picture of you in the t-shirt?

I think its gratuitous. It would have worked better if the guy had been wearing a "Hezbollah Loves Jihad" T Shirt. That would have fit.

Hollywood gangs up on Israel because no longer a victim. That phase was good for awhile after the war but was too good to last. No surprise things returned to normal.

The world's obssession with the Jews is back, like its always been since time immemorial.

I wouldn't make too much of it given that most Hollywood producers are Jewish.

Debbie,
If Israelis don't wear the shirt, I don't see how the use of it in a movie defames Israelis. It could have been a Boston Red Sox shirt. Would that mean that all Boston Red Sox fans should be outraged? I think you are reading a little too mush into this one. Or is there extra info you have about the Producer/Director/Writers etc?

Well, there was this one Russian-born, ex-Israeli navy guy nicknamed "Tarzan" here in Miami, who was quite a character, he was brokering the purchase of a Russian submarine complete with crew to Colombian drug cartels when he was busted. He is not the only ex-IDF guy to be in business with the cartels.
The Colombian cartels have hired ex-IDF guys to provide security.

I will throw in a disclaimer stating that I haven't seen the movie. I have however, seen many Jews dealing ecstasy from Israel. I have in fact seen an Orthodox Jew running E and money from Israel into the UK and into JFK. In the UK he was actually making transactions with a memeber of Hezbollah.

Crime makes interesting bedfellows.

How is the rest of the movie? I always thought the TV show was pretty cheesy, but am a fan of Michael Mann.

I dont think anyone is denying that fact that their might be current or ex IDF soldier dealing in shady business. The point with the T-shirt is the gross "Throw it your face becasue we want to make sure you know he's an Israeli Jew" message it delivers. There are less subtle ways to indicate what the characters background is in a movie or TV series.
i remember watching the second season of The Wire on HBO and there was a drug dealer who was Israeli. They said who he was once and moved on. If the audience picked it up or not, it didnt matter if the "Israeli Jew" background stuck on the viewers mind. They didnt have him wear a T-shirt saying who he was to deliver a message to deaf viewers who cant listen to dialogue...

I guess I don't have an issue with it. If its not a far fetched idea why do you care?

The leftist would get upset if the guy was wearing a turban, the righty gets mad if hes wearing a Israeli t-shirt. My reply is, don't be so sensitive. Political correctness is killing this country, on both sides.

To gregdn regarding "I wouldn't make too much of it given that most Hollywood producers are Jewish".
Aparently being Jewish does not mean too much according to ABC Action News in Philadelphia-when they reported the 07/24/06 demonstration to support Israel in Center City they did fleetingly show a picture of 2 people with "Israel has a right to defend herself" signs by then they interviewed 3 people who were Jewish but were anti-Israel and were saying that the Israeli response was way over the top.

Shirts with "Coca Cola" in Hebrew were popular in the 1980s and would have better choice with a cool retro reference. It is no secret that some Israelis are involved in the drug trade but how can you make that leap to soldiers? Real soldiers that would be proud of their unit wouldn't be involved in the drug trade. There are bad apples in every organization, the shirt is a cheezy, stupid costume that matches the ridiculous casting. If I saw someone wearing a shirt with my old unit on it dealing in drugs, I rip right off his back and kick his ass!

Not surprising considering how anti-Israel/US Hollywood and TV Land are. But this is REALLY streching things a bit, as NO-ONE I have ever seen in the US or Europe has ever worn one of these T-Shirts....

However.....they look awesome. Just the right thing to counter the idiot Che T-Shirts that the Lefties wear. Some intellegent soul ought to market the things.....If they are the pervue of the IDF and hence, not copyrighted....I'll even sell the things!

You can buy the shirts : At the Friends of the IDF Store. Here's the URL - http://209.128.88.180/~israel/store/index.php?cPath=21&osCsid=8b8c190c97191fa7a286777dc09c7e3e )

Even better, since the shirt is being sold by Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, the money from the sale goes to supporting Israel's soldiers with care packages, recreational facilities, medical care, and scholarships. You get a cool shirt and help Israel's soldiers out - a can't lose opportunnity (Yes, I've bought one and also donated to FIDF since this current conflict began)
