This is about what you would expect from the Forward (sic). It is little more than a left wing gossip sheet. Who was Jewish, or part Jewish, or had a Jewish friend, blah, blah blah, in the Olympics, or this or that TV series, etc. Who is a Jewish baseball player, etc. Most Jewish local newspapers also do that a lot, and I guess this low level of journalism makes it easier for them to be liberal (or socialist for the Forward throughout its history, to say the very least). Since they don't bother with real news, there is nothing in their news papers to contradict their liberalism.

I saw on another blog that this is not true. Somebody else wrote this:

I don't know which statement is correct. Perhaps Debbie Schlussel can comment.

What are talking about?! The "Blacks Hewbrews", used to be "Black Israelites", are muslims. Who are they kidding? They follow the same identical Anti Chirst and Jewish philosphy as the Nation of Islam (NOI).

As my cousin's sister by marriage's grandmother's niece's Jewish uncle used to say, "Oy gevalt!" This is such utter nonsense. I'm glad you are the kind of Jewish American that can see through this crap instead of like some other Jewish Americans who (sadly) lap this stuff right up. As for your "list of things I care about" at the bottom, I am 100% behind on those conserns. I care about those also, along with a few others. I just saw a documentary this evening called 'Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West' (ya'll can get it on Netflix) and one of the things that was very striking (it's an EXCELLENT doc, BTW) that was brought up and discussed was how the world (mainly the West) fails to see that as it goes with Israel, so it eventually goes with the rest of the world. The West is vitally and irrevocably connected to Israel--whether some folks like it or not. And for that reason, if for no other, we who love freedom and democracy should care about what happens to Israel and the general treatment of Islamists towards the Jewish people at-large. Becuase after the Jews comes the rest of us--history has shown us that over and over. When will we get it? Besides that, we should care about Israel for Israel's sake. Because it's right and just.

I don't believe it. First of all, the Ethiopian Jews (the Beta Israel or Falasha) are in ISRAEL and they don't have half-crocked phony black American "rabbis" presiding over them. They have their own rabbis. Ethiopian Jewish rabbis. Who have been carrying these traditions for thousands of years. In any case, I don't believe this story. I tend to believe Debbie's version.

Debbie, It is important that you posted this. I do know about this guys particular group, but from his own website it seems there are questions about his "conversion."

The Black Non-Hebrews are basically thugs who beat up elderly Jews in Chicago, moved to Liberia, got KICKED OUT of Liberia, settled [mostly] in Dimona, Israel in the late 70's, and were allowed to stay only after threatening mass-suicide. Nowadays, they pretty much have their own autonomy. Their "practices" {made up out of thin air and/or misinterpretations and/or whims of their leadership} include fasting on Shabbath, which most every Jew knows is forbidden, save for Yom Kippur, and perhaps the need to fast before a life saving operation (need to double check) veganism (nothing wrong with that, but meat eating is no problem according to Torah Law, obviously), fake blue braided fringes places on clothes which accord to Torah Law do not require such fringe,... The list goes on. I'd say fake hits the nail on the head.

The "Black Hebrews" of Dimona are crazy, but harmless...and they certainly are not real Jews. They do not beat up on Israelis...they stay to themselves mainly. (I have worked with the musicians amongst them)

As Musical Director of the [late great]Bat Dor Dance Company (Tel Aviv), I also worked with Alvin Ailey and his Company, who we hosted on many occasions over the years. The Ailey Company would perform at Hechal Hartabut (Mann Auditorium) in Tel Aviv or the Caesaria Amphitheatre, and they never, ever, had a problem. Of course in those days Ailey's company did not include militant Moslem converts.
