Reality Check: About Those Israeli “Evictions” of E. Jerusalem Arabs

By Debbie Schlussel

Take a quick quiz in international property law.

Question:  When are property owners and landlords not allowed to evict bad tenants and squatters from their property?

Answer:  When the property owners/landlords are Jews and their tenants are A) Muslims (see below) or B) Blacks (see Al Sharpton riots and arson when Jewish landlords, er . . . “White Zionist Interlopers” –who employed over 20 Blacks and Hispanics at Freddy’s Fashion Mart–tried to evict a long non-paying Black-owned record store tenant).

Far-Left Israelis Protest Return of Homes to Their Jewish Owners

Over the weekend, you probably read or heard one of the gazillion mainstream media stories about the big, bad, evil Jews–the Israelis–evicting the “poor Palestinians” from “their” homes in East Jerusalem.

Well, per usual, don’t believe the hype.  Here’s a tiny reality check the mostly anti-Israel mainstream media didn’t tell you.  The homes are and were owned by Sephardic Jews (Jews mostly from Arab countries) for more than seven decades.  They were NEVER the homes of these Arab Muslim tenants who were squatting in them.  The Sephardic Jews have the deeds to the land, and they’ve legally owned it, in some cases for centuries, in many cases for many decades.  Many of these Jews were forced out by Arab pogroms and attacks on them in the 1920s and ’30s.  Others were forced out by United Nations bureaucrats seeking homes for Arab “refugees” in 1948 (more on that, below).

Yes, despite what you heard on Al-FOX News and in AP stories, the “Palestinian Arabs”–who used to call themselves Israeli Arabs–were never the owners of these homes.  So, these weren’t “their homes,” as we’ve been told.  In fact, these were Arab Muslims who NEVER lived in Jerusalem and mostly fled Israel in 1948, siding with the surrounding Arab nations, which urged them to do so, promising a return to greater “Palestine” when the Arab Muslim victory (which never happened) took place.

So, they returned to Israel.  And they got United Nations personnel to force Sephardic Jews (also called, the “Sephardim”) who owned land and homes in East Jerusalem to give them their apartments and houses so that these Arabs (who had lived elsewhere in Israel) would have a place to live, RENT-FREE.   The United Nations got the Sephardic Jews to sign agreements allowing these “refugees” to live in the Jews’ homes temporarily and, again, RENT-FREE.  In America, we have a term for this:  Squatting.  And it’s illegal.  But not, apparently, when the land-owners are Jews and the land is in Israel in the Jewish capital of the world.

But, decades later, these Arab Muslim “refugee” squatters never left.  And they violated the agreements the UN forced the Sephardim to give them.  The Sephardic land-owners took them to court.  And after years of Arab Muslims abusing the (far-left) legal system of a non-Muslim democracy (redundant phrase) with appeal after appeal, the Jewish owners of the land finally got the right to evict Arab Muslim squatters who displaced them from their homes and their land in East Jerusalem.

And yet, the Arab Muslims you saw on TV or read about in the paper or elsewhere online, refused to leave.  They preferred to be forced out and sleep on the streets for the cameras because they knew that the  predictably anti-Israel mainstream media would lie and portray this as a case of “the evil Jews taking Palestinians’ homes.”  And that’s exactly what happened.

It’s a flat out lie.  The only case here–the only truth here–is that Palestinians squatted in Jews homes and took it for the last 61 year.

And now they are finally out.  It’s like the bad tenant horror movie “Pacific Heights” on a scale of thousands.

And now that some of them–a very few, as most of East Jerusalem remains occupied by Arab Muslims–are finally out, I hope the Israelis have a heavy duty fumigation agent, as well as a good explosive detection system.

We hear many terms in the liberal news media coverage of this story–“ethnic cleansing” and the abrogation of the “Arab-dominated East Jerusalem.”  But remember:  the only ethnic cleansing that happened here was when Jews were forcibly removed by Arab Muslims and U.N. thugs from their homes here.  And that’s the only reason it’s now “Arab-dominated.”

I know this is not the main point of the article, but I couldn’t resist commenting on this:

[From the linked to CNN article:”Israel, the occupying power, once again has shown its commitment to the settler organizations by evicting more than 50 Palestinians, many of them children, from the houses where they have lived for more than 50 years,” chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat said in a statement.]

How can someone who has lived in a place for more than 50 years be a “child”.

I thought I read that the Israeli Supreme Court ruled to evict. What else can anyone say?

I don’t need to study every detail because I have consulted with the Creator of All Things. This is what He says:

Gen 12.3

3 I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Joel 3:1-2
1.It will be a judgement of God on the nations that have done certain things to Israel.
2.It will be in the last days when God comes to bring the final deliverance to Israel and the city of Jerusalem.
3.It will be a judgement on those that have scattered Israel into the nations.
4.It will be a judgement upon those that have parted or divided the land of Israel.

Remember Hurricane Katrina? Well, a short time before the US stuck its BIG NOSE in Israel’s business pushing the Jews out of the West Bank (I don’t recall the specifics – I do remember God’s Words).

Well, you can expect a lot more judgment if you involved yourself in dividing the land. It’s a theorcracy established by God Himself for the Jewish people. Fear and trembling is the ONLY CALL of the day.

PS I am an attorney but the only laws that matter are God’s laws.

In Jan 2005 the US pressured Israel to vacation 4 cities on the West Bank. In Aug 2005, God’s judgment hit New Orleans… Here’s more evidence of judgment against nations that divide the land four years later (God has a very long memory):

After the storm: New Orleans’ post-Katrina mental health woes

The physical damage of Hurricane Katrina is well known. Government has spent billions of dollars to reconstruct New Orleans and other cities in the Gulf region in response to the devastating storm of 2005. But devastation still lingers —in human minds. Thousands of Americans remain seriously disabled — crushed in spirit and unable to function in the world — because of the trauma of that time. Suicides have also been on the rise.

The world condemnation was rank anti-Semitism. If the situation had been reversed, would any one have cared? Of course not!The only politically correct form of bigotry acceptable in the world today is against Jews. It should be pointed out thousands of people the world over get evicted from their homes every day year in and year out for perfectly legal reasons and no one raises an international storm over it. Again, for Jews there is an exception and it will always be different for them.

NormanF on August 4, 2009 at 6:14 pm

It is bizarre and obscene. The U.N. should have purchased the properties in a regular way, if they wished to provide these squatters permanent residences.

    Sorrow01 on August 4, 2009 at 6:46 pm

It’s not for sale. God holds the deed of trust and it was given to the Jews, no one else.

    Norman said:

“Again, for Jews there is an exception and it will always be different for them.”

It won’t “always be” different for them. There’s a Pay Day Someday, and it’s coming. If people only could see, for example, Egypt. When the Hebrews left with everything (back wages), Egypt was relegated to the boneyard of human history. Same with Germany and the consequences suffered so far are only the tip of the iceberg. More is coming… absolutely. God has an eternal memory. He is a just God and a God of judgment… Do you remember East Germany? It had barbwire around it for exactly the same amount of time (13 years) as the concentration camps had wire around them. He is a very precise God, too, but more is coming…

All nations will be judged on their treatment of the Jewish people. It makes your knees knock together out of fear!

Bless you!
I would add that it was the eviction of the 9,000 Jews in Gaza that hasten Gods anger, but your point still stands.
We could also check the history of God. Assyrians, Babylonians, Greeks, Roman Empire, British Empire,( to name a few) all came against Gods people, my Jewish brothers and sisters, all destroyed because of it. As a proud Christian Zionist, I pray for them each and every day, Lord protect them.
In closing, For Zions sake, do not be silent, Gods watching. Amen

PS, Debbie, love you and your site!

I am looking forward to the judgment executed by one angel to the City on Seven Hills. I look forward to a very long Judgment Day, too.

For Zion’s sake, I will not be silent either 🙂

Thank you, Debbie, for reporting on this issue – I smelled a rat when I first heard about the Arabs’ evictions a few days ago, and now I know that there was far more to this story than the increasingly antisemitic mainstream media would have us believe. Damn them all to hell.

commonsense on August 4, 2009 at 7:02 pm

I should add here is a case in which no one killed and in which the police enforced a court judgment. Evictions for non-payment are routine in every American city, usually enforced by the county sheriff when the occupants voluntarily refuse to vacate the premises. Had the Arabs left of their own accord, no eviction would have been necessary. Fairness gets left behind in a rush to judgment and a refusal to consider the facts. When it comes to Jews, the world has a problem with appreciating the rule of law when Israeli courts happen to rule in their favor. The reaction is all out of proportion to the nature of the incident. And as Debbie pointed out, eastern Jerusalem is mostly Arab because Jews were forced to leave those parts of the city during the War Of Independence and yet this “ethnic cleansing” that Israel seeks to redress is viewed as being the Jews’ fault. A fair-minded world would defend Jews’ right to live in Jerusalem as passionately as it defends those of the Arabs there.

We just don’t live in one.

Excellent, Ms. Schlussel. I urge all readers of this website to email the U.N., the British Consulate in Jerusalem, the U.S. State Department and anyone else you can think of who has taken the biased media reports seriously and butted in, and tell them to mind their own business.

Miranda Rose Smith on August 5, 2009 at 2:36 am

Dear Commonsense: I also smelled a rat, but I knew I could count on Ms. Schlussel for the truth.

Miranda Rose Smith on August 5, 2009 at 2:44 am

Dear Goldenmike4393: We don’t know why G-d does what He does and its not right to say G-d sent Hurricane Katrina to punish the U.S. for pressuring Israel to evacuate settlements.

Miranda Rose Smith on August 5, 2009 at 2:48 am

I am quoting God in Joel, where He says dividing the land is wrong.

You can take it up with Him. You are NOT any authority.

I just emailed a copy of this article to the British Consulate in Jerusalem,

I just love the internet. It allows complete psychos like Goldenmike to let out their rage in a way that will never, ever have any consequences in the real world. At all.

Just Joe on August 5, 2009 at 4:53 am

Aren’t the Sephardim the REAL Jews…the ones who not only gave us the Zohar, but basically the Torah…and you Ashkenazis are squatting on Judaiasm???

But seriously, i’m all FOR a Palestinian state…as soon as the Roman Empire is resurrected. IF the Arabs and Palestinians WANT to get rid of the Jews, all they gotta do is help them build another temple…works every time.

ER: Uh, no, the REAL Jews are BOTH Ashkenazim and Sephardim. Quit parroting Muslim anti-Semitic propaganda. DS

“I am quoting God in Joel, where He says dividing the land is wrong.”

Well, then live together. Someone is just gonna have to give more than the other.

Melinda on August 5, 2009 at 3:02 pm

So, you are content to serve God in an advisory capacity? I doubt HE cares what YOU think.

God gave Israel to the Jews. It’s the ONLY theocracy on planet earth. He holds the Deed of Trust. He gave it to the Jews. Case settled.

Good luck with selling your POV to Him or anyone else. But, I am sure the muzzies like your opine…

    goldenmike4393 on August 5, 2009 at 3:12 pm

Well I am going to be rather un-PC. The barbaric savages in Trans Jordan ( I refuse to call them palistinians) are damn lucky that I’m not in charge, I would give them peace alright, the peace of the mailed fist !

Drakken on August 5, 2009 at 3:18 pm

Israel has put up with enough crap for a half dozen countries…They should just ship all the idiots out of Gaza and the west bank across the border into Syria and block them being able to come back in…I don’t know, build a large electric fence or something…Or, the other option is just bulldozing everything they don’t want right down through lebanon and into the ocean…Kill two birds with one stone…hahaha

Tony P. on August 7, 2009 at 3:06 pm

Spot on. But then the world won’t be happy until the whole of what is now Israel is Judenfrei:
