Dumbed Down USA: Occupy Wall Street Trash Now Smithsonian Exhibit

By Debbie Schlussel

Museum exhibits, art, and historical monuments–or what now parades as such–are stark examples of how far our nation has declined.  I’ve written about absurd “art shows” featuring illegal alien trash from the Arizona desert and dumb “historical markers” showing the parking structure where “Deep Throat” squealed to journalists about Watergate.   But it gets worse.  Now, Occupy Wall Street garbage will be an exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution.  Ludicrous.

Occupy Garbage Now Smithsonian-Esque

More than a half-dozen major museums and organizations from the Smithsonian Institution to the New York Historical Society have been avidly collecting materials produced by the Occupy movement.

Staffers have been sent to occupied parks to rummage for buttons, signs, posters and documents. Websites and tweets have been archived for digital eternity. And museums have approached individual protesters directly to obtain posters and other ephemera.

The Museum of the City of New York is planning an exhibition on Occupy for next month.

“Occupy is sexy,” said Ben Alexander, who is head of special collections and archives at Queens College in New York, which has been collecting Occupy materials. “It sounds hip. A lot of people want to be associated with it.”

Huh? What’s “sexy” about a bunch of dirty losers who need a bath? If that’s sex appeal, no wonder the birthrate in America is declining.

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History [sent] staff to Zuccotti Square during the encampment, where they were spotted picking up materials. The museum said it was part of its tradition of documenting how Americans participate in a democracy. It declined to allow staff to be interviewed.

So sad. I remember the days when, as a kid, I saw the Smithsonian exhibits of the first airplanes and items from America’s first steps on the Moon. This was a place that showed us genuine items from real American history.

Now, it’s all about garbage from some spoiled kids who pretended to be homeless for a couple of months and many of whom expressed anti-Semitic Nazi-worthy views. (And you can bet that none of the videos of their anti-Semitic comments will be on display at the exhibit.)

How America has declined.  You have to wonder what future American generations will think when they view the Occupy Wall Street exhibit at Smithsonian.  Will they think:  wow, these people were morons?  Or will they be even more dumbed down than we are?

I bet on the latter.  The trajectory is already clear.

I just wanna know: will used Occupy Wall Street condoms be part of the Smithsonian exhibit? If not, they should be for, above all other reasons, truth in advertising.

After all, that’s what mostly went on in the Occupy crowd: screwing each other and screwing America.

It is becoming like the Dark Ages, where there were a very very few monasteries and centers of learning that preserved culture. TV and radio are shot, movies are shot, campuses are shot for the most part, libraries are discarding old valuable books and saving the crud, and ordering more and more crud, and museums are abysmal. Real culture, civilization and learning are becoming rarer and rarer.

Little Al on December 27, 2011 at 4:42 pm

And in a year or two, you’ll be giving four Marxes to some movie about OWS.

Little Al on December 27, 2011 at 4:44 pm

I’ve got a better idea: Go see the new “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.” Beats the old TV show by a mile.

Seek on December 27, 2011 at 7:41 pm

I’m betting four Marxes plus an Obama.

JeffE on December 28, 2011 at 12:20 am

LA, the Church used to preserve what was left of ancient culture and religion is no longer the leading light of Western society. Islam doesn’t have that atavistic impulse to preserve the past so who cares if our grandchildren know what the Occupy movement was all about?

You had an incredibly selfish bunch of kids whining they’re not rotten spoiled enough. Many people in this world would like to have what we have. Gratitude like everything in life, is becoming rarer these days.

Yup, that’s what we’re showcasing in our museums for posterity. Don’t expect that to be pointed out for the benefit of those going to view the Occupy exhibits in the future.

NormanF on December 27, 2011 at 4:51 pm

You need to educate yourself on what took place at the OWS movement. As a 46 Y/O former paramedic and corporate owner and now protester, I can assure you that the information that you based your opinion on is at the very least distorted. The movement is comprised of all types, period. If you did attend you would have learned that the movement created an atmosphere wherby all could protest about anything, what a beautiful thing not to have to be concerned about acting in a way that is required by a particular party. Sure there were obvious implants sent to sabotage the movement, after all it is the last thing the establishment wants to happen. Read more thought provoking literature like “1984″ or the Animal Farm by George Orweland you might begin to see OWS in a more positive light.

How much of the budget of these “museums” is paid for by the taxes paid by hard working Americans?!…

Eliezer on December 27, 2011 at 5:02 pm

That’s really sad but it just goes to show you why this country is going down the toilet!!!

Michael Doran on December 27, 2011 at 5:07 pm

And these spoiled bums are the useful idiots greasing the skids for Obama’s re-election, folks.

The Smithsonian has been going downhill for many, many years. Many of the exhibits, such as the internment of Japanese Americans, Migration of Southern blacks to the North, etc. are nothing more than white bashing, anti-American exhibits.

Meanwhile, exhibits such as on the creation of computers, typewriters, watches, medical exhibits, industrial history exhibits, Revolutionary war exhibits, etc. are no longer on display.

At one time, the Smithsonian had an excellent arts and industry museum. One could see an outstanding automobile or railroad exhibit. Now, they have a general “Transportation Exhibit” which is more about sociology, than science. A total of no more than five automobiles are shown, most of no historical significance. Of course, we learn about buses as we read that blacks had to sit at the back of the bus.

The Museum used to have curators who were experts in television and radios, industry, etc. Now, they have people who majored in sociology and “museumology” (and yes, that is now a major). Political correctness is more important than accuracy or education.

More and more of the exhibit space of the museums is taken up by bureaucratic offices and gift shops to fulfill the need of visitors to buy Chinese made garbage.

The educational value of the museums has plummeted as legends are worthless or poorly written.

I have been going to the Smithsonian(s) since my parents used to push me in a stroller. I no longer bother to go to the museums, except for a couple of the art museums. The former History and Technology museum was renamed the American History Museum, although don’t expect to learn much there…it is a waste of space.

The Air and Space museum is still cool, although there is a segregated wall dedicated to black people in the air and space arena. Sorry, but why segregate the achievements of black people? That is racist against black people. Disgusting.

The Indian Museum is mostly a vast empty atreum, a restaurant, and gift shops. The exhibits that are present are good, but they make up less than half of an expensive building.

The Holocaust Museum, which is not a Smithsonian Museum, fails to teach the role Muslims played in promulgating the Holocaust. Too politically incorrect.

Jonathan E. Grant on December 27, 2011 at 5:46 pm

Indeed, Jon. And don’t forget fubaring up the exhibit on the greatest bomber of all time, the “Enola Gay.”

    Occam's Tool on December 28, 2011 at 3:43 pm

Well since they actually were segregated back then (blacks had their own squadrons etc and did not serve with whites squadrons), why not present it the way it actually was?

If one still doubts that the counter-culture Leftism has taken over in the USA (media wise and elitist wise) they are willfully dumb and work harder trying to believe an UN-TRUTH than a truth.

If one still believes it after all this OWS pandering…YOU ARE INSANE and we all know what a mental disease Liberalism is.

Those with a brain know what an astroturf construct OWS was/is lead by Soros and other union thugs and far, far Leftists. The fact that when it was in full flourish that people were raped, assaulted, people had personal things stolen, VD and scabies and TB were spread, people were murdered and committed suicide and drugs were openly taken and distributed PROVES that people with power in this society don’t give a fu** about the truth. Their silly and insane agenda is put it up as if it is a great thing when it is NOT. It is beyond sickening.

And what was done at the Tea Parties…nothing like above and people assembled and protested properly and they were demonized and it is still a word that makes the CrAzY liberals spit venom.

And when that botoxed, old idiot Nancy Pelosi tried to instigate violence BY the Tea Partiers who were AGAINST the passing of Obamacare there was ZERO violence…even though she carried a ginormous gavel and brazenly walked in front of the opposition to strut their Commie feathers and laws. And even though there was NO violence, the lying Dems tried to lie and say there was. Meanwhile, compare that to ANYDAY at OWS.

And the media and the others of that ilk try to pretend EVERYDAY that the Tea Party behaved in a way that OWS did and OWS acted in the way Tea Party did (peaceably assemble and no violence on their part and leaving the public arena more clean than they found it).

And Time Magazine (even thou the rag is a joke) picks the “Person Of The Year” as “The Protester”. Showing their insane and crazed support of not only OWS but the even more disgusting “Arab Spring”. welcome to Bizarro World!

ALL THOSE THINGS AND THE REPUBLICANS CAN’T EVEN OFFER US A CANDIDATE THAT IS A PROPER CONSERVATIVE.

This culture is rotting now on the outside. Newspeak is openly used and no one seems to care. What a shame!

Skunky on December 27, 2011 at 6:31 pm

And then there was the disgraceful Hiroshima exhibit in the 90s, that, fortunately, was canceled.

Little Al on December 27, 2011 at 6:54 pm

The fact that it’s called an “institution” now takes on new significance. Change the name to “Smith-stoned-ian”.

CornCoLeo on December 27, 2011 at 9:44 pm

I just wanna know: will used Occupy Wall Street condoms be part of the Smithsonian exhibit? If not, they should be for, above all other reasons, truth in advertising.

I was wondering if they’d be collecting the ….solid bodily wastes..of the Occupiers.

Miranda Rose Smith on December 28, 2011 at 1:48 am

    Miranda Rose Smith:
‘I was wondering if they’d be collecting the ….solid bodily wastes..of the Occupiers.’

The bodily waste together with the actual protestors should all be outsourced to China in a nu-exercise called ‘Exporting Our Waste’.

To think that the OWS was OK’d by the man in the WH. Lauding and applauding faux effort whilst accomplishments are classified as ‘arrogance’. Did Rome and Greece ever consider a second, modern day downfall, never, looks like the USA is well on their heels…

Eyes Wide Open on December 28, 2011 at 3:48 am

Great posts Jonathan E. Grant and Skunky. I consider the Smithsonian, colleges and universities, the vast majority of clergymen, and the mainstream media to be nothing more than intellectual Marxist garbage.

Start with the 1800′s into the 1900′s. The War Between the States was written by people from the Abraham Lincoln point of view when in fact Lincoln was nothing more than a dictator who jailed dissidents, destroyed the free press, deported Ohio United States House of Representative member Clementine Vallandingham for opposing the “Civil War” openly on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Lincoln was also congratulated in his efforts of nationalism by none other than Karl Marx who personally wrote a letter of congratulations to Lincoln for a job well done. (Letter in Library of Congress)
Written by Dr. Thomas DiLorenzo and backed by noted economist Dr. Walter E. Williams. There is another book called “Forced Into Glory,” Abraham Lincoln’s White Dream by Lerone Bennett, Jr. the former publisher of Ebony Magazine.

One of my biggest wishes is that Gretchen Morgenson and Charles Gasparino would make it into history with their books about Wall Street.

Both have told the truth of the corruption and greed on Wall Street and how much horror and misery the United States and the rest of the world will have to endure economically before evertone sees stability again.

James A Jones, Newt Gingrich, and Nancy Pelosi will never realize how much suffering and pain that they have caused this nation.

Confederate South wrote: “when in fact Lincoln was nothing more than a dictator”

To sum up Lincoln’s accomplishments in that manner is not accurate. He was a much greater man than that.

Jarhead on December 28, 2011 at 11:01 am

Please tell me how he was such a great man. He waged war against a people that simply wished to be allowed to go their own way. No different from the wishes of the original 13 who could not tolerate the tyrant, King George III. The Emancipation of the Slaves was a political move that did not effect the slaves still existing in the North, including the slaves owned by the wife of U.S. Grant.

Joel Harrell on December 28, 2011 at 11:27 am

Jarhead
Please read Thomas DiLorenzo’s books as well as Lerone Bennett, Jr. book “Forced Into Glory.”

The “Civil War” is written from the victors side and point of view.

Abraham Lincoln brought Henry Clay’s dreams into reality.

I was brought on Lincoln’s on accomplishments. I never understood why my older relatives greatly admired President Andrew Jackson.

Andrew Jackson performed far more service and served the United States more admirably than any President since Thomas Jefferson.

Andrew Jackson’s face should be up in Mt. Rushmore. Jackson was a military man and a war hero. He won the Battle of New Orleans. Lincoln was not a military man, Lincoln was a lawyer by trade who schmoozed with the upper class. Lincoln married a Kentucky aristocrat named Mary Todd whose family owned slaves. Mary Todd Lincoln conducted seances at the White House and was into “Black Magic.”

Andrew Jackson never got a letter from Karl Marx thanking him for his accomplishments but Lincoln sure did.

Lerone Bennett,Jr. would not have placed 10 years of his life into “Forced Glory” if it wasn’t true.

Jarhead, I ask that as a loyal American you read more history and evaluate what I have written. I also hold the opinions of Dr. Walter Williams and Dr. Thomas Sowell in high respect as does Rush Limbaugh.

Confederate South on December 28, 2011 at 11:43 am

Jarhead
I totally agree with Joel Harrell that the Emancipation Proclamation was nothing but a political statement and as Lerone Bennett, Jr. describes, Lincoln’s hand greatly trembled in trying to sign it because he did not believe in what he was signing.

In fact Lincoln had representatives in Liberia buying land in order to ship Blacks back to Africa.

Lincoln did not hold Blacks on an equal footing as himself. There are a number of politicians in that time period as well as later time period who were trying to do the same thing. Senator Ted Bilbo of Mississippi a Democrat was trying to do the same thing. Ted Bilbo was a later time period.

Confederate South on December 28, 2011 at 11:54 am

By the way, the New England State wanted to secede from the United States long before the South seceded. They wanted to secede in the early 1800′s.

Confederate South on December 28, 2011 at 11:58 am

Confederate South – I’m not going to argue history with you. And as a loyal American, I have read and studied history, both in the public schools in the Northeast and in the university.

My point is still that Lincoln was a much greater man than you say. To sum him up as a dictator is very inaccurate.

Jarhead on December 28, 2011 at 12:16 pm

I new when young people started to tattoo and pierce themselves we were headed into a new Age of Barbarism.

bjr118 on December 28, 2011 at 1:19 pm

I consider it my civic duty to know all angles of American History I did not learn any of this from any public or private school. I gathered my information from highly respected sources because high schools, colleges, and universities will not teach any of this. Schools teach indoctrination.

The Lincoln Administration was also guilty of screwing people out of money. His Treasury Secretary Salmon P. Chase was the originator of Greenbacks in order to finance the “Civil War”, Lincoln later nominated Salmon P. Chase to be on the Supreme Court. From the Supreme Court, the same Salmon P. Chase then declared Greenbacks to be unconstitutional.

By the way, summing up Lincoln as a dictator is Thomas DiLorenzo’s statement.

Confederate South on December 28, 2011 at 1:28 pm

And our tax dollars pay to pick it up and display it. Sick.
