What You Need to Know About the UAE & the Ports Deal

While everyone is justifiably outraged by America’s relinquishment of six major ports to a Dubaian company, Dubai Ports (also, called DP World), the real outrage should be this:
Where was the outrage in the last 4.5 years? Why has our country continued to maintain great relations with the governments of Dubai and its larger federation of emirates, the United Arab Emirates? Since we’ve never disciplined or even scolded either Dubai or the larger UAE, they have been free to operate as usual.
And we’ve never treated or recognized both as anything but allies. It’s hard to let this fester for years, and then one day say to a party we pretend is our friend: hey, you are our enemy and always have been. That should have been what we were saying ever since 9/11 . . . and probably well before that date.

I’ve been screaming (in writing) about this for years. But no-one listened.
In 2002, at the time of the Kentucky Derby, I wrote this about Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum. Dubai, which is one of the seven United Arab Emirates (UAE).
At the time he did not rule Dubai, but now he does (since the death of his brother Sheikh Maktoum on January 4th). Here is an excerpt from what I wrote:

Al-Maktoum, Defense Minister of the United Arab Emirates, is also Crown Prince of Dubai-an Arab Muslim country that strongly supported and recognized Afghanistan’s Taliban, one of only three countries to do so. According to “From the Desert to the Derby,” by Jason Levin, 10 of the 19 September 11th hijackers carried documents and identification from Dubai, a country which also has no laws against money-laundering. Why? Maybe, because money to fund September 11th’s terrorism was laundered to ringleader Mohammed Atta, directly from Dubai’s banks.
Like most Arab leaders, Al-Maktoum gives only lip service to condemning terrorism, while his country sponsors, aids, and abets it. On September 11th, he was spending billions on high-priced yearlings at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky. After claiming, “We are 100% against it and 100% with America to get those people to justice,” he was busy spending millions, again, on September 12th-spending $6.1 million on two horses. As for the money from September 11th traced back to Dubai, Al-Maktoum will only say, “It’s been taken care of.” Whatever that means–ie., nothing.

And there’s more on the larger UAE, which unfortunately has a good friend in a certain President’s brother.
Stay tuned for a longer piece on all of this.

Look, Deb, economy has nothing to do with screaming. Nobody ever managed to scream prices down.
So, to control energy prices, somebody needs to invest in the oil infrastructure wherever it is – in the ME, in Venezuela, in Russia, etc. It is as simple as that.
I know you can afford $5/gallon, but what about aviation to begin with? Jets will never fly on nuclear power, alternative energy and all other kinds of crap. All they need is cheap kerosene.
Without cheap jet fuel, aviation companies inevitably go tits up – which is exactly what we see now. They can’t fly on your and Ann Coulter’s screams 🙁

The 64,000$ question that nobody seems to be asking is: WHY? Why would America sell some of its ports to anyone, let alone a scum sucking arab terrorist factory.
What does Bush stand to gain by selling part of America – and why can this even happen?

I cannot afford 5 dollars a gallon for gas. But I’ll walk thru hell before any of these rag-head Fascists get my money without a fight.
You want cheaper gas prices? Build more refineries. Drill more oil. Instead of getting it from the baby killers over there, in the name of environment or whatever (ok to despoil some 3rd world poor guys land, while his dictator bankrolls the profits, but to drill for oil here is wrong….yeah, right).
Victory ensures freedom and the benifits that come with it. If we as a nation, do not relearn this lesson, it will surely be taught to us.

Build and drill – where? Here in the US, right?
But this means outsourcing basically everything except for oil/gas production which is supposed to be insourced.
The point is, it can’t work this way, US cannot and does not need to compete with KSA or Venezuela as an oil producer. We have other things to do.

Meanwhile, we have f* morass at NASA. Basically, they want to cut science to pay for running outdated Shuttles.
Maggie McKee. Human spaceflight must come first, argues NASA http://www.newscientistspace.com/article.ns?id=dn8735&feedId=online-news_rss20

I am gald to see there are at least a few of us who think this is an outrage. How dare the President say he does not outsource the war on terrorism when he does things like this. Shame on him.

Once again the Bush Administration is out
sourcing American Jobs.
When are people going to put a stop to this BS. Our own Government is selling us out and this is not the first time. In the last five years there has been a wholesale sellout of the American Dream.
Congress and senators are issuing H1B visas faster than Employment Agencies in India and Mexico can replace The American workers and put them on unemployment roles. This does not even consider that we are being invaded by Mexico where 10,000 illegal aliens come to America every night and they take American jobs. 30 million to date.
What moron would give a foreign country the port deal. I suppose next thing is China will be given the contract for our Nuclear Weapons Security.
It is time to talk about impeachment for treason.

What moron wouldn’t know that the ports are already run by a foreign company? ScottyDog, that’s who. P&O, a foreign company, runs some of our ports already, and is hoping to sell to the UAE. This needs to be stopped, for sure. I think it will.

keefer on February 18, 2006 at 11:02 pm

Thanks for calling me a moron. I was posing the question tongue and cheek.
I already knew the foreign company was being bought out but I was trying to encourage some debate regarding our politicians selling the American people down the river by outsourcing all of our jobs and in sourcing jobs to illegal aliens.
Here is Southern California we are fast becoming a unemployed third world country and thought maybe you might want to comment on that.

Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff on Sunday defended the governmentĂs security review of Arab company DP World’s permission to take over operations at six major U.S. ports. This move warrants a closer look simply because our ports are still our most vulnerable targets. Only 5% of all containers coming into the country are actually inspected.
How is this allowed to happen? The committe that approved this sale – the U.S. Committee on Foreign Investment – is headed by Treasury Secretary John Snow, appointed by Bush in ’03. In 2004, the Arab DP World purchased part of the American company CSX for over $1 billion. Just before he became Treasury Secretary, John Snow was Chairman and CEO of CSX for over 20 yrs. This just one more example of back room wheeling and dealing, an inside job – this is how Republicans do business and this is why control of our ports have been sold to the Arabs. And this, sadly… is your daily Republican Courruption Update.

Why? I dunno, but we are losing our country. You know we lost 2,100 Marines in the first 24 hours at the battle of Tarawa in WWII. Today we just give away the dream as we shit in our own politically correct messkit. sad…

Dougdufus on February 21, 2006 at 7:20 pm

The whole truth is that
Canada has bought up all the railroads
Arabs the ports
Europeans the toll roads
Asians have been buying businesses and a neck break speed
and now tapped out the Federal govt is buying up all the land and I do mean all of it.
for who knows what, what else to sell it all off to foreigners
the national parks are sold off to the UN

Well I guess Americans are ok with all this yeah America is just an Idea !
“First through inflation and then through deflation they
will put Americans into tent cities ” I think a famous American said that I may be wrong i am a Canadian i can’t remember everything the American founding fathers said.
“America is not a place it’s an idea” Clinton said that

WAKE up DOWN there
