Not Dead Yet: Immigration Bill Fragments to Get Third Chance

As Mark Twain might say, reports of the Immigration Bill’s death have been highly exaggerated.
The bill might have been killed for the second time, but today’s Wall Street Journal reports that at least three key parts of it may still have life (one of which, , I’ve ). Yes, it’s like Freddy Kruger. The bill never completely dies. These, too, must be killed:

It ain’t over ’til it’s over.

Thanks for tracking this Debbie. Regarding the Tech worker issue, I received an email offering an entry level Oracle DBA position for a $1500 in a training class. The offer is extended to non-USA citizens, only. I replied asking if the job offer applied to American citizens as well, and guess what? No response. Beyond Defeating The Immigration Bill: Time Overdue To More Than Whisper The “D” Word.
An ugly word and hot potato that sounds to too many people like how pre-1960’s folks thought of sending people to the moon.
But as ugly and “impossible” as Deportation sounds, we have to start if even only a trickle object lesson. To say it’s impractical or overreaching is to only continue the hemorrhage of this country as a distinct “melting pot” culture — much to the glee of illegals intent on recreating their original countries here. Until we take Berlin Wall measures our borders will still be frightfully porous to millions (that measure might sound Draconian until a massive plague hits South America). Without Deportation in our quiver, legal threats on illegal homesteading is a joke. We will be wimps and accomplices to our own culture’s take over – and like virginity once it’s gone you can’t get it back.
We have to coldly ignore the tidal wave of violins and teary media reports of illegals with little kiddies in tow waving bye-bye to friends and anchored relatives here as they’re herded into vans and buses back home. We got the wheels; we just need the will (spine) to roll ’em. If this country’s worst phase could ship 20 million people over here from Africa in creaky wooden boats we can damn sure pack people in air conditioned buses to the (hopefully) new border fence gates and have them be the responsibility of the rightful government.
It is foolish and cowardly to merely restrict Deportation to criminals and unattached illegals. Their being here IS a criminal act. To say we will tolerate and accommodate “12 million” illegals within our borders is in one breath saying we’ll do such for 75 million plus later on because our will to check the situation wouldn’t have changed.
But by that time your vote won’t mean much.

The gravest error made by the Bush administration, was combing Customs and Immigratin enforcement. ICE is managed from top to bottom, with very few exceptions, by legacy Customs, particularly OI (office of investigations). Immigration enforcement has been completely emasculated with unnecessary reporting redundancy (TECS) and redtape. Employer sanctions? yeah right…when you jump through enough hoops and get the blessing of the pope. The attitude, (and understandably) of legacy customs doing an NTA packet or any other immigration enforcement is when hell freezes over. On the other hand expecting legacy Immigration to do financial or import crime investigation is met with equal distain. If common sense can be found anywhere in Washington, Customs and Immigration should be seperated and allowed to perform in their own expertise. Foreman might have been a great financial crimes investigator but is absolutely clueless when come to immigration enforcement as are her SACS.

dhs_iceman on June 30, 2007 at 12:02 pm

Until I hear that we are putting the National Guard or the military on the border, the Government is not serious about stopping the invasion from Mexico.
The Bush administration has colluded with Mexico and done everything it can to encourage the invasion from Mexico. They are hoping they reach the tipping point where any enforcement will be impossible and enough of the invaders have taken over the political process.
We could shutdown our borders in about 48 hours if we put the guard or military on the border.
We can deport these invaders if only the Congress would get rid of the EOIR Immigration Court. The whole concept is just an employment agency for immigration attorneys and their hacks.
The INS used to do sweeps in the 1960’s and 70’s in the Los Angeles area. The raided employers and had the buses ready for a one way trip back to Mexico. No BS hearings about their so called rights.
Today, ICE and the rest of the dysfunctional Homeland Security is more concerned about their friggin rights than enforcing Immigration.

ScottyDog on June 30, 2007 at 1:04 pm

NEWSFLASH**The government is tyrannical, they really don’t represent you people anymore. They’re going to pass it this year, or the next, no matter what you do, they’re tyrannical. They’re probably being blackmailed, too. Why do you think they are hell-bent to let Mexico INVADE? Because Big Business is FORCING THEM. If we don’t violently overthrown them, they will simply continue to dismantle the United States. Haven’t you figured this out, YET??

steve ventry on June 30, 2007 at 1:28 pm

There used to be one incompetent laughing stock of an immigration agency called INS. Now there are three! CIS, ICE,& CBP. Pick one. All three are dysfunctional. Half the employees want no part of it (former Customs agents, inspectors, pilots, import specialists etc.) The other half are from INS. Nuff said. The USA no longer has a CUSTOMS SERVICE. DRO runs ICE. Border Patrol is the 20,000 pound gorilla at CBP. CIS ROTFLOL. DHS will prove to be an even bigger disaster than 911. FBI & CIA lived to see another day. CUSTOMS died and INS was never alive.

J Leyn on June 30, 2007 at 4:45 pm

There is no shortage of high tech Americans for IT, they just want cheaper.
Simple as that.

feralcat9 on June 30, 2007 at 11:38 pm

Michigan’s going to get flooded with more ‘immigrants’ either way. With Lugar’s speech, we’re on our way out of Iraq. It’s going to be a bloodbath. You know Bush will bring as many muslims as possible to the US.

steve ventry on July 1, 2007 at 2:29 am

From a newsletter I got: “The grade school I attended and my children attended is now an E.S.L. English second language school. More than half the classrooms do not fly American Flags. I know of only one teacher who has her class say the pledge daily. The school is 97% Mexican, many of them born in Mexico. They get before school care, free breakfast, free lunch, after school care. The parents drop them off at 6:30 a.m. pick them up at 5:00 pm. It has become the burden off the white property owning tax payers, most of who”s grand kids have already completed school to finance these families of 4 to 6 to 10 children. I have volunteered at this school for 3 years daily in the literacy program believing that if the children learn the culture and language of America it might make a difference. I could not have been more mistaken. 3rd grade kids,Mexicans,8 to 9 years of age tell me they do not want to be Americans. They are Mexicans. They are taught at home that the white man is the “Bully” because they arrest their fathers and send them back to Mexico. I wear the # of soldiers killed in Iraq on my shirt every day. During a discussion with the kids explaining the relevance I was told, I don’t have to go to war, I’m not from here. Whitey is the bad guy. When I try to show all the freedoms and opportunity America gives them they say it is owed to them. These are 8 year old kids! No amount of schooling can over-ride what they are taught at home. I quit volunteering about a month before school got out.”

steve ventry on July 1, 2007 at 2:55 am

Steve, that newsletter you got was probably complete bullshit and full of lies.

TubeSteak on July 1, 2007 at 3:22 pm

You said ” Immigration enforcement has been completely emasculated with unnecessary reporting redundancy (TECS) and redtape.”
I’d be willing to bet that more cases (Immigration violations) are being prosecuted federally now, then ever were during the old INS days. Am I wrong? I bet you there are more federal search warrants and seizures now then before as well.
Prosecuting federal cases require more paperwork, and we need to know where are resources are being used, it’s just a fact of life. It will be nice when ENFORCE is incorporated into TECS, but until that time, we have to capture the data.
“Foreman might have been a great financial crimes investigator but is absolutely clueless when come to immigration enforcement as are her SACS.”
Marcy Forman is an investigator, and she knows how to put a prosecutable case together. To say she is “absolutely clueless” re: immigration enforcement is simply wrong. She has some talented folks advising her on Immigration issues, and she’s a quick study. To say her SAC’s are clueless shows your lack of knowledge on the subject.
J. Leyn,
You make so many incorrect statements that it would take me all afternoon to correct them all.
Here’s the one I chose for today : “DHS will prove to be an even bigger disaster than 911”.
Do you stay up late at night dreaming up this half-baked crap? I bet you are known in your office as the guy that never gets the facts right, aren’t ya? Sad, really sad.
And then there is steve ventry, who makes up stuff, purports it to be true, so he can try to make a case.
“The school is 97% Mexican, many of them born in Mexico” Is your newsletter from Nogales, Sonora, or San Ysidro, CA Steve? I thought you were in Mississippi? I’d wager there are no schools in MS with 97% Mexican students. I could be wrong, but I don’t think so.
I agree with TubeSteak as it relates to your little newsletter steve.

Wrong again dawg. Sure hope you stay away from those casinos. I speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. There is no reason for me to lie. I have nothing to gain or lose either way. I simple call them as I see them. I have been getting it right for over three decades. CUSTOMS died and ICE was never alive. THERE ARE virtually NO criminal immigration PROSECUTIONS in my very large judicial district. CUSTOMS prosecutions have gone from many to none. ICE orchestrates media events driven by the politics of the day. Period. We (agents) are contributing to the economy, since all the agents and group sups are now GS/13 & GS/14 grades. We do little else as an agency. Many agents will retire this year and get real jobs again. Pure ICE agents will then accomplish even less as they are clueless and are getting little experience. The end is near my friend. Just look to the top. Julie Meyers is not qualified for the job she holds. Ditto for most Marcy appointed lap dawg SACS. Meyers is a political hack just like her husband. Get off the crack old man. You have less agents in your state than Marcy has bag men. And for the record, NONE of them share your views of ICE.

J Leyn on July 1, 2007 at 6:43 pm

You haven’t yet named me, but you seem to think I work in a RAC office in MS. I’m beginning to think that you aren’t an agent at all, but maybe a CBP Inspector or Border Patrol Agent that couldn’t make the grade as an 1811 Criminal Investigator.
You said “I simple call them as I see them.” I think you are “simple” my friend. If you are an agent, you certainly don’t work where I do, as the agents in our AOR are about ICE’s business. If there are no criminal immigration prosecutions in your very large judicial district, who’s to blame? Are you not taking quality cases to the U.S. Attorney?
As always I’ll steer clear of commenting on our politically appointed leadership, but Marcy Forman and most of our SAC’s are taking care of business, and making ICE the agency it can be.
It isn’t easy, with a percentage of our workforce sticking their heads in the sand, but we’ll carry on nonetheless.
You are a sad, disgruntled little person. If you are an agent (and I’m still not convinced), maybe you should punch out, before some of your negativity rubs off on those agents that are pulling your weight since you decided to retire on duty.

EverVigilantSheepdog on July 1, 2007 at 7:43 pm

EVS & J Leyn, you guys need to go to anger management classes or take some of those vallium that the CBP inspectors sieze and turn over to you…”for your federal prosecution”.
Both of you guys are so full of yourselves it’s unbelieveable, you think you are freakin experts on all things in federal law enforcement, get real. Take a breath and come back to the light.
BTW EVS, there are alot of Border Patrol Agents & CBP Inspectors out there that really don’t give a damn out Special Agents. For the most part they think we are egocentric lazy Prima Donas and I would agree, since I’ve seen it first hand.

ficedup on July 2, 2007 at 4:31 am

I’m not angry at all, just making a point to not let the disgruntled few have the last word.
BTW, our CBP Officers and BP Agents get along very well with our Special Agents.
Yours may not, but most that I encounter would rather have our job than theirs, which explains why so many apply for and are selected as ICE Special Agents.
Work safe,

EverVigilantSheepdog on July 2, 2007 at 6:43 am

EVS, you never miss an opportunity to pretend Mexico isn’t invading, I’m starting to think you’re just some La Raza activist parading as a big patriot. I DO live in Mississippi, some of the e-mail I get comes from out-of-state. I’m not the one posing, you are. I’ve also lived in TX, FL, and a couple of other states. That newsletter could possibly be untrue, I have no way of knowing. I know it’s representative of a lot of things I’ve seen first hand. Have you spent ANY time in Laredo, Eagle Pass, Brownsville, El Paso, Douglas?? I have. If you think these MEXICANS want to be Americans, that they don’t look at the Alamo as a victory, you are either disingenuine or completely naive, and I don’t think you’re naive.

steve ventry on July 3, 2007 at 8:08 am

EVS, in fact, the more I look at your “Work Safe” BS, I’m starting to smell a big rat. I don’t believe you’re in charge of anything, in the way of ‘immigration’. I think you’re a complete phony. You seem to enjoy, a little too much, playing the role of supervisor or whatever you’re supposed to be. YOU are the one whose posts are starting to ring untrue.

steve ventry on July 3, 2007 at 8:12 am

You clearly misunderstood my post, if you think I’m supportive of illegal immigration in any way, shape, or fashion. It is simply not true.
We are all covered up with illegal aliens, and we as ICE, are doing what we can, within our resources, to address the problem.
I have spent some time along the southern border, and feel like I have a good sense of what goes on there.
There may be a 97% “Mexican” school in Laredo or Brownsville, but even then I think 97% is a stretch. Sounds like the “miniute men” or “american border patrol” type propoganda.
You don’t have to believe I am a leader in ICE Steve, but again, it is true, whether you believe it or not.
