“The Work Americans Won’t Do”: Children of L.A. Illegal Aliens Cost $44 Milln Welfare Per Month

By Debbie Schlussel
For years, you’ve been told about how illegal aliens are doing “the Work Americans Won’t Do.” You’ve been told that if we enforce the borders and send them home, lettuce will cost $10 a head.
Well, you’re already paying far more than $10 a head, and you’re not even getting the lettuce.

Figures from the Department of Public Social Services show that children of illegal aliens in Los Angeles County collected more than $21 million in welfare and more than $22 million in food stamps in March 2009 — an increase of $1 million from the previous month, according to a news release from Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
Annually the cost of illegal immigration to Los Angeles County taxpayers exceeds one billion dollars, which includes $220 million for public safety, $400 million for healthcare, and $500 million in welfare and food stamps allocations, according to the news release.

Muchas Gracias & Shukran, Los Angeles County Taxpayers

Twenty-four percent of the county’s total allotment of welfare and food stamp benefits goes directly to the children of illegal aliens born in the United States, according to Antonovich’s statement.
“Illegal immigration continues to have a devastating impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers,” Antonovich said in the statement. “The total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers exceeds $1 billion a year – not including the millions of dollars for education.”

So, how’s that billion dollar lettuce workin’ for ya?
It’s easy to engage in hyperbole about $10 per head lettuce, when you’re a politician hiding billions in lettuce in a budget that taxpayers can’t see.
Kudos for Antonovich, the lone voice of reason on Lalaland. He knows his votes don’t come from the Hollywood Hills or South Central. And, unlike the rest of the GOP, he doesn’t pander to them.

Illegal aliens are a financial burden to the country and especially to the states which are mostly responsible for those financial burdens. I agree with President Obama on most issues but this is one where he’s really dropped the ball.

Several cities and municipalities in California are either already bankrupt or close to it. The state is also about to go bankrupt. That’s the result of irresponsible and wasteful spending.

Illegal immigrants have been used for the advancement of BOTH sides: Cheap labor vs political support of gov’t union types
This is now out of control and it’ll take real pain to be felt by the sheeple of this country before we take steps to reverse this. Hopefully this “pain” is monetary and not civil disobedience.

California deserves its own destruction. Let the bodies hit the floor!! It will only get worse. Obama’s amnesty won’t only give amnesty here but also amnesty to those who got deported or self-deported. If an illegal can prove that they were here working with SSN# false or stolen, then they will have a claim at amnesty. So basically if an illegal left back because the economy slowed down but worked under a false SSN# and has employer checks stubs, said illegal will make a claim even if he is no longer in America.
California’s other problem is the colossal public employee unions (SEIU, Obama’s Buddies). They run the state and it must be starved.

Many states followed California’s template on pensions. Hopefully other states have implemented a 2/3 vote on tax increases and a spending cap tied to inflation and population growth. Otherwise just like California, your states will be swallowed up in debt.

OK Blitzer–you have now produced one intelligent thought. I admit it.
