Where are the feelings of anger, rage, defiance and settling scores with someone who is the definition of evil? Isn’t that what normal parents do after they’ve lost a child? Why don’t the Sotloffs’ vow to seek justice for their murdered son?

None of what Debbie described is in any normal. But hey, when Kerry says jihad and beheading people isn’t Islam’s fault, people are stripped of their normal survival mechanisms. And that goes to what Debbie has written many times before on her site and will again in the future: America Is Desperate But Not Serious. The Sotloffs are living proof of it.

Exit question: shouldn’t they be celebrating, knowing their son died in according with the wishes of Allah and His Prophet, that death is the loftiest of rewards attainable in Islam? This is exactly what their son did and what he lived and died for: to become a Muslim shahid. The videos they sent to ISIS make absolutely so sense whatsoever. That and a lot of other things about their reaction that don’t add up.

Besides what I said, the reaction of the family is the opposite of normal.

Normal people don’t show respect to the murderers of their child. They seek justice, they get even and they vow to prevent the tragedy from happening to someone else’s kids.

The Sotloffs in contrast butt-kiss Islam, genuflect towards the murderers and address Islamic savages like they’re neighbors living down the road from them. Its a sickening spectacle.

As Debbie has written, how you deal with Islam is kind of a Rorschach’s Test: not all of us turn our faces against it and try to make life safer for fellow Americans. We’re Desperate But Not Serious. And Sotloffs are not nowhere even near that after losing their son in the most brutal manner possible.

With Islam, its not a case of can’t we all get along? Rodney Kingesque and Hilary Clinton aphorisms will never get it to change. A fact of life a lot of people in denial about the true nature of Islam have yet to come to terms with.

Maybe we are misunderstanding certain things here. There are many Puerto Ricans, and of course, others, who speak with a pronounced “Spanish accent.” So, sometimes, things can get lost in translation.

For example, you hear a Puerto Rican man speaking, and you see him eating chicken. Then he says, “Ai haf two piece.” You THINK he’s saying that he has two pieces of chicken, but what he is really saying is that he needs to use the men’s room. I have to piss, but piss comes out sounding like piece, or peace.

So, maybe instead of the Koran being full of peace, which is what we are hearing, maybe they are saying the Koran is full of piss, or that basically the Koran is a fake, phony, fraudulent instruction manual for a religion which is not really a religion at all. Basically, that the Koran is full of nitrogenous waste.

And THAT, I think is something “we”* can all agree on.

*Now, if only “we” meant the whole world, instead of just the members of this web site, and a few others scattered throughout the globe.

I would really like to read some of Sotloff’s articles where he cheerleads ISIS, the Muslim Brotherhood, Al-Qaeda, etc. The only articles that I have been able to locate were his most recent 2 articles about the Syrian peoples suffering, this article from WaPo http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2014/09/02/remembering-steven-sotloff-through-his-journalism/ when he wrote about Libya and this article from the Atlantic: http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2014/09/the-stories-steven-sotloff-told/379485/. In reading his twitter feed, it elicits his near total dimness in having any true understanding of who IS is.

I don’t think Sotloff understood much about the Muslim World despite a lifetime of living there and speaking flawless Arabic. His complete identification with Islam led him to develop blind spots. When you lose your objectivity, it can prevent you from seeing the world as it really is, not as you would like it to be. No wonder he lost his head.

There’s certainly much truth in that. Reminds of one of the bits Woody Allen used to do in his standup days, which went something like this:

“We were married by a Reform rabbi in Long Island. He was a very Reform rabbi. He was a very, very Reform rabbi. He was a very, very, very Reform rabbi. He was a Nazi.”

That’s funny because there’s truth in that too.

Unfortunately, the Jews from the far, far left are unlikely to learn anything from this latest beheading of one of their own. We can only hope that more sensible, intelligent Jews have a stronger influence over the fate of Jews generally and Israel. There are some positive developments in this area. For example, leftist US Senator Bernie Sanders, from Vermont, and who says he practices Judaism, has recently voiced support for Israel. (Similarly, a non-Jew left-leading public figure, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, has also voiced support for Israel.)

But if the Jews from the left don’t wise up politically and get behind Israel, they may one day find themselves saying “Next year in al-Qads” during the High Holy Days.

(“al-Qads” is what the Muslims and the Islamophiles call Jerusalem.)

As a matter of fact, they think they will go to heaven. These people are true sociopaths not just isolated incidents of individuals who snap and decide to kill for fun. Islamic terrorism is deeply politically motivated and thats what makes it different and more dangerous than other types of violence.

These are very sick people indeed! They can’t possibly be jewish, probably went through some silly conversion procedure by Reform movement, which is very easy and cheap too. Converts with no connection to real Judaism and anti-Israel as well – usually a wretched duo.

And the whole thing with beheadings seems staged (not that they are not capable of doing it for real), could have been recorded a while ago and now used as a means of propaganda/intimidation. The victims may have volunteered for the whole thing as they were anti-west liberals. Of course if the whole thing is for real then one has to pity the families of the victims… though to anybody with minimal sanity it should not be surprising that raising your children in a sick and morbid liberal atmosphere can lead to such horrible results

I am a strong supporter of Israel. I don’t know whether or not your statements about Steven Sotloff are true. It’s strange that no newspaper (so many have an anti-Israel bias) has come out with any of this information. not only his Temple, but the conservative governor of Florida, his alma mater, etc are all proclaiming a day of mourning. If he converted to Islam and was so very pro-Muslim, why has this not been reported?
In any case, the man is dead, and his parents are grieving. I find your comments mean-spirited and petty. Who cares if his mother has had plastic surgery or botox? And what does that have to do with this story? Can’t we try to be kind and gentle while still maintaining a strong pro-Jewish and pro-Israel position?

Something very fishy about this whole thing; that this guy learned perfect hebrew and then became fluent in arabic; Most immigrants to Israel, don’t have perfect hebrew; even those in the country for a long time; far less are also fluent in Arabic even though they live side by side with Arabs; So we are told Mr. Sotoloff accomplished both of these with a fw short years after having attended what was essentially a junior college in Florida ?
Equally preposterous was the report that he hid his religious affiliation; and then ” fasted ” on Yom Kippur; how did he know the date while in captivity ? did he observe other holidays ? eat chometz during Pessach ?

In Judaism, unlike in Christianity, a lifetime of sins are not washed away by contrition. There is NO evidence Steve Sotloff had second thoughts about what he did or that he would have made amends for them had he lived.

And he doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who would have ceased to associate with Islamic terrorists and other assorted baddies. Which is now entirely beside the point cuz he is now dead and beyond caring.

What you won’t see are his apologists say for the record there would have stopped x, y, z had he been given a second chance. That tells you all you need to know.
