Un”Mighty”: Muslims Heroes in Qaeda-less Jolie-Pitt Daniel Pearl “Lifetime”-esque Movie

By Debbie Schlussel
I went to the screening of “A Mighty Heart“–activists Brad Pitt’s and Angelina Jolie’s movie on the Al-Qaeda murder of Daniel Pearl–expecting a movie with an agenda.
And that is exactly what I got. That, plus a Lifetime Channel weepy-damsel-in-distress movie of the week. Muslims are the heroes–NOT the perpetrators–in this “Can’t we all just get along?” kumbaya film ostensibly about terrorism.

amightyheartmovieposter.jpg

As one would expect from the Jolie-Pitts, “A Mighty Heart” is mostly NOT about the Al-Qaeda murder of Daniel Pearl, killed in cold blood specifically because he was a Jew. In fact, the movie minimizes that, instead repeatedly blaming America for its treatment of Guantanamo Bay prisoners as the reason Pearl was cut into the ten pieces like a slaughtered chicken, the state in which his body was found. (That’s no surprise, given that the Jolie-Pitts hired as “A Mighty Heart’s” director, Michael Winterbottom, who also directed the propaganda fake-umentary, “The Road to Guantanamo.”) In “A Mighty Heart,” we see no depiction at all of Pearl’s captivity or even kidnapping by Qaeda thugs, but for a few re-enactments of tiny parts of the famous Pearl video.
Most shocking, we get an onscreen repeat of the oft-told Muslim myth that 4,000 Jews didn’t show up for work at the World Trade Center on 9/11, because the Jews planned the attacks. The movie provides no refutation of this myth or any indication that it is invalid. (It shouldn’t be shocking, though, given Jolie’s anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian activities.)
And instead of depictions of Daniel Pearl’s treatment at the hand of Muslims, Jolie/Pitt repeatedly hit you over the head with a baseball bat that the hero–not the murderers–in the Daniel Pearl story is a Muslim, a Pakistani Police Captain. We see him admonishing a Qaeda Pearl suspect that he is not “a good Muslim.” The movie also stresses that Pearl’s friend, Asra Nomani, is a feminist Muslim who also is upset and worried for Daniel Pearl. And don’t forget the cheerful, hijab-encrusted full-time, diligent housekeeper and her cute little Muslim baby boy–both of whom we constantly see, in-your-face-style, throughout the movie.
That’s all nice and dandy. But these Muslims wouldn’t be involved, but for the fact that oodles of their fellow co-religionists–the ones who follow the dominant Sunni strain of their religion, Wahhabism–kidnapped and murdered Pearl in the name of their religion, an undisputable fact that is minimized as much as possible in “A Mighty Heart.”
The long, boring, disjointed movie is less about an Al-Qaeda kidnapping and live crude dissection murder of an American Jew, and more a mixture of MTV’s “The Real World” (or CBS’ even worse reality show “Big Brother”) and a Lifetime Network movie of the week. Short on Qaeda info, it is long on scenes of Angelina Jolie, as Mariane Pearl, wandering, brooding, and whining as she roams a cool looking, modern house in what is supposed to be Pakistan.
Mostly, we see her speaking–and whining–in a really, really bad “Saturday Night Live” version of a French accent (that’s in addition to the brief, terrible Israeli accent of the actor playing Judea Pearl, Daniel’s father). Peppy Le Pew and Peter Sellers were far more convincing.
We see Jolie, uh . . . Pearl, roaming around a cool modern house interacting with friends and associates and constantly uttering meaningful, poignant lines, like: “Sh*t, Sh*t, Sh*t;” “Bullsh*t, Bullsh*t, Bullsh*t;” “F*ck, F*ck, F*ck.” Actually, most of the American characters in this film have those obscenity-laced lines, too.
On top of that, we’re treated to dialogue by Mariane’s Muslim friends, like this:

What do Americans really know about Afghanistan and Pakistan . . . other than bombing them?

In addition to blaming America’s Gitmo detention of terrorists for Pearl’s murder, the movie also blames the Wall Street Journal for providing the CIA computer files it obtained, giving insight into the operation of shoe bomber Richard Reid, his Al-Qaeda connection, and his scoping out of Israel. By doing that, in Jolie/Pitt/Mariane Pearl’s eyes, the Journal confirmed Qaeda’s assertion that Pearl is a CIA agent.
Any reason, any excuse to grab for Pearl’s inexcusable, horrific murder–other than Muslims hate a Jew and barbarically kill him for it–and the movie grabs onto it. Even prior to making the movie, last year, Brad Pitt a/k/a Mr. Jolie–producer of this film–lectured us that

We hope the film can increase understanding between people of all faiths and portray the story and the people involved . . . without anger or judgment.

In other words, don’t judge the Muslims. Don’t judge the people who barbarically killed Pearl because he was a Jew. Don’t even think that’s why they killed him. Understand the murderers. Understand that it’s not right for us to keep murderous terrorists in detention with three gourmet halal meals a day and every religious article they’d ever want. Understand that the Wall Street Journal should never help the CIA with intelligence to counter terrorists.
And those are the messages of this movie. That’s why, instead of scenes of Muslims beating, interrogating, torturing, beheading, and dissecting Daniel Pearl, we see Muslim Asra Nomani crying and anguishing over Danny. We see Muslim police officers very concerned about Pearl. Mariane tells us of the beauty of Muslim Eid Al-Adha sacrifices of lambs. We see a scene of Mariane, a French Afro-Cuban/Dutch Buddhist, bowing down to the ground meditating. Then, it shows Muslims also bowing down to the ground praying to Allah. Forget the butchering Muslim murderers. We are all the same. We all care. We all pray in a similar manner. That’s the message of this movie.
And then there are the even sillier parts of this movie. Woven in with the earnest, concerned Muslim detectives and police officers, we see caricatures of the Americans, which are such comedic parodies, you wonder how they made it into what is supposed to be a serious movie about an execution of an American Jew. They appear stolen from the editorial cartoons of Islamist newspapers in Egypt and Saudi Arabia and propaganda dramas on Hezbollah’s Al-Manar.
We see a useless lesbian FBI agent who does nothing but sound and appear officious in a Rosie O’Donnell know-it-all way. No, the movie doesn’t say she’s a lesbian, but trust me, they picked the most butch-looking actress possible. Clearly, she plays for the other team.
Then, there’s Randall Bennett, a mysterious “security official” from the U.S. Embassy in Karachi. Played by Will Patton, who often plays criminals, bad guys, and bizarros, the CIA-esque Bennett constantly wears sunglasses indoors and gushes and drools over Pakistani torture of suspects.

angelinajoliearabconf.jpg

Angelina Jolie’s “Understanding” @ pro-HAMAS Arab Children’s Conference Hate-Fest in Jordan, 2004

And don’t forget Wall Street Journal reporter Steve Levine, played by Gary Wilmes, the most stereotypically Jewish-looking actor they could cast–a living embodiment of the angst-ridden, sweaty big-nosed, glasses-wearing Jew you’d find in “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” picture book for kids.
Yup, that’s how the Muslim world–and Pitt and Jolie–see America: bizarre, drooling torturers in sunglasses, lesbian FBI agents, and big-nosed, bespectacled Jews who dominate the media.
So much for Pitt’s exhorting us to be “understanding” and “without judgment.”
At the end of the movie, we are told in Jolie/Mariane’s voice that

Ten Pakistanis were killed this month by terrorists. They [Pakistanis and Muslims] are suffering as much as we are.

Are they really? How many of the Americans were killed because they were from rival terrorist groups? How many Pakistanis were blown to smithereens because they were on airplanes or in the two tall towers they flew into?
The problem with the film is that the Jolie-Pitts do have judgment–against us and not the terrorists or their Islam–and that they have very selective understanding–lenience only for those, ie., Muslims, who hate Jews and hate Americans, looking for that tiny fringe of moderation that’s barely on the far, outer margin.
In the many print and broadcast interviews in the mounting PR campaign for this summer movie, Jolie tells the press that

Mariane is a person who has every right to be full of hate, and yet she’s completely the opposite. She wants to have a dialogue.

And there are Jolie’s and Pitt’s lectures that

The hero of this movie is a Muslim Pakistani Captain . . . . Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Jewish–they all came together, all of them becoming great friends.

The problem is not with whether or not Mariane Pearl hates those who butchered her husband to death or whether those who helped investigate it were a tiny number of Muslim friends and police who don’t represent the dominant anti-Semitic, pan-terrorist thought on the Muslim street.
The problem is that those who butchered her husband were dominated by hate and that they are Muslim. And a propaganda film whitewashing that by a beautiful actress and her metrosexual boyfriend won’t make them hate us any less or make Islam any less extremist.
Until we face those facts, there will be many more Daniel Pearls. Onscreen Valentines to terrorists and their hateful religion, a la “A Mighty Heart,” only enable their murderers.
If your heart is so big that your head is buried in the sand, it’s not “A Mighty Heart.” It’s a weak heart, soon to be in cardiac arrest.

Debbie, I’ve gotta hand it to you — I don’t know how you stand to view all these crap movies and then come back and write about them. You must be on an antiemetic drip at all times. I’d be barfing my head off. Thank you for doing the dirty work so the rest of us don’t have to.
I once saw the Useful Idiot Marianne Pearl interviewed and so I knew that any movie about her had to be bad, even before Angelina Jolie was cast in the leading role. (And what is up with that crazy freak’s obsession with collecting multi-colored little kids?)
I wonder if Daniel Pearl is out there somewhere regretting that he married such a moron who has made a joke of his life and death. It’s good he is not alive to see his wife, the one who is supposed to love him above all others, kissing the butts of the people who terrorized him and chopped his head off.

AmericanJewess on May 24, 2007 at 2:19 pm

In the 1940’s, would Jo-lie-the-Pitts have created a film aimed at “understanding” why Hitler was killing Jews? Would these Hollywood cretins have blamed the Allies for causing Hitler and his Nazis to hate us? The enemy propaganda machine is powerful and all-pervasive. We need to stand and fight the Left who are trying to lead us down the road to Hell.

FreethinkerNY on May 24, 2007 at 2:26 pm

I think Daniel Pearl would have been thrilled if he were treated as “badly” as the vicious, murderous scum at Gitmo.
Last I checked, none of those well-fed, well-treated animals at Gitmo was hacked to bits because of his race.
These jihadist apologists will be defending evil even as the sword is eventually put to their own necks.

Reminds me of how Hollywood romanticizes Idi Amin in the Last King of Scotland. They don’t really show all the slaughterings he caused in Uganda or his cannibalism. This seems to be the style of Hollywood – minimize or distort the truth and maximize an ultra-liberal anti-American anti-European anti-white agenda. I mean thats why I really hate the fact that Hollywood stars get into politics because then their ridiculous moon bat views overshadow their talent.

the_don on May 24, 2007 at 3:04 pm

I think you are being incredibly unfair.
This film was made from HER point of view, HER story, HER experiences after the death of her husband. After watching it, Mariane Pearl commented that they had really captured those months after Daniel’s death…If this movie was meant to dramatize her life, and she feels it is accurate, then what is your criticism exactly?
You are dissappointed it was not propaganda against Muslims? But if, as Mariane has said, her friends in Pakistan helped her through the tragedy, should this be misrepresented just because it doesn’t match your view of Muslims? Anyway, I have to say you have no leg to stand on here. It is her movie and if she is happy with it, you can’t blame the Jolie-Pitts for how they chose to tell the story. I haven’t seen the film yet, but I have read excellent reviews and look forward to it.

tulipsforjen on May 24, 2007 at 3:12 pm

If they made a movie about me and cast Brad Pitt in the starring role (and wrote me a big fat paycheck to boot) I’d probably be pretty happy as well (particularly if I was set-up for a cut of the box office receipts).
There is an episode of the Andy Griffith Show in which Aunt Bea is horrified at how Andy is portrayed in a movie based on him and convinces him to denounce the movie… until she sees the young, attractive girl that is playing her! Suddenly the film isn’t so bad.
In American politics (on both sides) there is a sickening practice of finding the exception or the rarity, presenting it as the norm, and then basing policy decisions on it.
If 99.99% of Americans had healthcare coverage, politicians would find some family (who opted-out of coverage at work to avoid the deduction) who they’d trot out as “representative” of the state of healthcare in the country. That is what the Left attempts to do with Pakistan/Jordan/Islam.
I betcha I can find some decent Klan members, but that doesn’t exonerate the movement… and if I tried to make a movie about nice “some of them” can be, I don’t think you’d be so understanding.

stevecanuck on May 24, 2007 at 4:03 pm

Ok, one more comment before I leave this vacuum of intellect….
1) Your metaphor about Klan members is incorrect. Since the jihadists are Muslims and Klan members are Southern whites, the metaphor should be “I bet you can find some decent Southern whites, but that doesn’t exonerate the movement” That doesn’t make much sense, but then neither did your bigoted assertion.
2) Mariane’s support of the film doesn’t come becuase she is “flattered”. The point of view of thie film is consistent with everything she has said in every interview about her feelings towards her husband’s death and the conflict as a whole. I know that isn’t convenient for you but believe it or not, what you got here is a person who is far better than you and doesn’t share your small-minded prejudices.
As usual, you people are uniterested in facts or truth.

tulipsforjen on May 24, 2007 at 4:05 pm

Here’s a fact and a truth for little Tulip:
Sometimes a moonbat can be so egotistically inextricably attached to a moonbat idea that no reality, no matter how horrific, no matter how brutal or abhorrent, no matter how personally painful, can spur them to utter these simple words: “I guess I was wrong.”

AmericanJewess on May 24, 2007 at 4:29 pm

You’re absolutely right, AmericanJewess, but we have to keep trying. I doubt that tulips even went to the web site I posted for him. And if he did, he just hasn’t thought of a rationalization to explain away Muslims giving the Nazi salute. Once a dhummi – always a dhummi.

stevecanuck on May 24, 2007 at 4:46 pm

Classic Debbie Schlussel! I haven’t seen the movie (and I don’t plan to now), but you’ve saved me about $10 and the price of rotten tomatoes to throw at the screen.
The hero of the movie (if there can be any hero in such a tragedy) is Judea Pearl, Daniel’s father. He should have been the focus of the movie. The villian(s) should have been Islamic terrorism. There should have been no other way to make this movie. It’s a great story and it needed to be told.
Maybe Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt can pimp this crap on Oprah. I’m sure she’d love it.

Hollyweird is almost as anti-semitic, as in anti-JEW, as Google, THEREFORE one of the greatest tragedies on OUR modern era goes unrepresented since no one can THINK of a way to Hogansheroicalize it.

YOU:1) Your metaphor about Klan members is incorrect. Since the jihadists are Muslims and Klan members are Southern whites, the metaphor should be “I bet you can find some decent Southern whites, but that doesn’t exonerate the movement” That doesn’t make much sense, but then neither did your bigoted assertion.
——————
ME: Sorry, but your analogy is incorrect. “Muslim” is a CHOICE whereas “white southerner” is NOT. My analogy works perfectly. Among Muslims (a choice) you can find a tiny minority who are not anti-Semitic and then try and pretend that these represent the whole… which is what this film attempts to do.
A “white” person cannot choose to no longer be white, nor did he choose to be white in the first place. The same is not analogous to being a Muslim. Islam is a choice just as Klan racism is a choice.
I suppose you believe that Birth of a Nation was an accurate portrayal of the Klan?
————————
YOU: I know that isn’t convenient for you but believe it or not, what you got here is a person who is far better than you and doesn’t share your small-minded prejudices.
————————
ME: I have predjudices against a religion that is founded on anti-Semitism, spread by anti-Semitism, glorifies genocide and holds the daily slaughter of innocents as a core belief.
I also have “small-minded predjudices” against Nazism, fascism, communism, genocidal maniacs and the Klan.
It is not “bigoted” to hate a philosophy. I hate nazism no matter if anyone can show me a “nice” Nazi or not. You cannot be a Nazi and then try and convince me that you are also a friend of the Jews. It makes no sense.
I don’t hate Arabs (a race, see: “white” Southerners). I hate jihadist genocidal tendencies. Unfortunately, that describes the vast majority of Muslims. Finding a few exceptions doesn’t change that.
If someone wants to be a “Jew-loving Muslim” he’s going to have to call his religion something other than “Islam”. That name is taken and one its main tenets is destruction of Israel.
“Oh, I’m a Nazi, but I love Jews and Blacks and I think Hitler was dead wrong!” In other words… no matter what this person says… he isn’t a real Nazi… and he shouldn’t be used to try and convince gullible fools that “not all Nazis are bad.”
BTW – Could you direct me to your glowing and affectionate obituary for Jerry Falwell?

bleechers on May 24, 2007 at 5:45 pm

Celebrities who get rich too quickly start to believe they got rich because they’re smart. So they fall for anything, particularly anything that that’s non-traditional. So, if we all started extolling Islam, they would probably become Southern Baptists.

steve ventry on May 24, 2007 at 5:53 pm

Daniel Pearl and Lisa Kudrow were in the class behind me at Portola Junior High in Tarzana. The school was 86% Jewish, quiet, normal suburb, nothing sinister. Not a single person ever said an unkind work about a muslim in all of the years I lived and went to school there. Anyone that grew up there understands the movie and television biz, basically that there are two stories: the one you tell and the one that ends up on the screen. My friends from Israel and I also agreed that they were somewhat naive, selfabsorbed, and really unaware with regards to the real harm some of the world intended for them based on nothing more that their religious identity.

You can analyze the motivations of LIBERALS until the cows come home. It all boils down to the same Anti-American philosophy, and the same Anti-Freedom philosophy! LIBERALISM’S roots were spawned along with the rest of mankind’s basest instincts – during the Dark Ages! (Communism and islam, just to name a couple.)
You can dissect, bisect, and tear apart every LIBERAL’S flawed arguments and they will still boil down to their Communist, America-hating, freedom-denying, liberty-hating, Totalitarianistic, simplistic propaganda.
The bottom line is this…and, once you fully understand this, it’ll make your life less complicated……LIBERALS HATE AMERICA…..THEY ALWAYS HAVE, AND THEY ALWAYS WILL, AND THEY WILL STOP AT NOTHING UNTIL AMERICANS BOW DOWN AND WORSHIP AT THE ALTAR OF GOVERNMENT-SANCTIONED DEATH AS WAS PROMULGATED BY AMERICA’S ENEMIES DURING THE COLD WAR AND AS WE ARE STILL WITNESSING IN THE LANDS WHERE COMMUNISM AND ISLAM STILL DOMINATE!
LIBERALS HATE HITLER, BUT THEY ADORE AND WILL NEVER CRITICIZE LEFT-WING AND RELIGIOUS-CULT MASS MURDERERS SUCH AS: STALIN, POL POT, HO CHI MIHN, FIDEL CASTRO, CHAIRMAN MAO, DANIEL ORTEGA, HUGO CHAVEZ, IDI AMIN, ROBERT MUGABE, YASSER ARAFAT, AYATOLLAH KHOMENEI, HEZBOLLAH, HAMAS, OSAMA BIN LADEN, al-QAEDA, VLADIMIR PUTIN, LEONID BREZHNEV, NIKITA KRUSCHEV, CHE GUEVERA, MUQTADA AL-SADR, THE IRA, ISLAM, ETC., BECAUSE THOSE DESPOTS BELIEVE/BELIEVED IN THE SAME PHILOSOPHY THAT LIBERALS ESPOUSE – THE DEATH OF FREEDOM, THE DEATH OF DEMOCRACY, AND THE DEATH OF INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY!
LIBERALISM = THE DISEASE/RELIGION OF THE UNEDUCATED, THE LAZY, THE SPINELESS, THE INTOLERANT, THE IRRATIONAL, THE ANARCHIST, AND THE GULLIBLE LEFTIST!
LIBERALS HATE AMERICA….but they don’t dare live anywhere else because they are…DARE WE SAY IT?….COWARDS!!
WE MUST ERADICATE THE LIBERAL, JUST AS WE MUST ERADICATE THE REST OF THE ENEMIES OF FREEDOM, LIBERTY, AND DEMOCRACY!

Debbie-
Can you please put up the Daniel Pearl murder photos after THE MUSLIMS SAWED HIS HEAD OFF ???
Those photos are the reality – for all you morons who have never seen the REALITY.
Marianne Pearl seems almost to take his death and use it…for financial gain (she tried to get money from the 9/11 funds distributed to families of people who died on 9/11. I believe she was denied the funds because he was not “murdered….yes, murdered” on 9/11.)
Now this screed made by the uneducated, basically stupid and brainwashed Brad Pitt. Oh, and whipped also – almost forgot that.
What is it with the liberal/leftist muslim apologists (including Marianne Pearl) that will not let them see the truth. It’s like, oh..Daniel’s dead – let’s all sing kumbayah and talk about how much we love eachother. This leftist thinking is so dangerous.
Also, Roger Friedman from Fox said Jolie’s performance was so wonderful – oscar worthy – what is his problem?
CARPE:
PUTTING UP THE BEHEADING PHOTOS IS A GOOD IDEA, BUT NOT ONE I’M PREPARED TO DO ON MY SITE. I REMEMBER GETTING THE PHOTOS SENT TO ME IN A DEATH THREAT BY MUSLIM ROBERT MUSTAQ JOHN, WHO TOLD ME “JEWGIRL, YOU WILL BE NEXT.” THEY SHOCKED THE HECK OUT OF ME, EVEN THOUGH I ALREADY KNEW WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM. I BELIEVE THAT EVERY AMERICAN SHOULD BE FORCED TO WATCH THE VIDEO AND SEE THE PICS, BUT I CAN’T BRING MYSELF TO POST THEM.
ONE OF THE DIFFERENCES THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT BETWEEN DANIEL PEARL AND THE 9/11 VICTIMS WAS THAT THEY HAD ABSOLUTELY NO PART IN PUTTING THEMSELVES IN THE TERRORIST ATTACK. PEARL WENT TO RISKY PLACES AND SOUGHT OUT AL-QAEDA CONTACTS IN PAKISTAN. YES, HE IS A VICTIM OF TERRORISM. BUT THE 9/11 VICTIMS WERE INNOCENT PEOPLE ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS ON U.S. SOIL. THE TERRORISTS SOUGHT THEM OUT. IT’S COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. THAT’S WHY IT’S SO OFFENSIVE THAT MARIANE PEARL, AS YOU POINT OUT, SOUGHT THE 9/11 MONEY.
ROGER FRIEDMAN’S PROBLEM IS THAT HE’S AN OUT-AND-OUT LEFTY. DON’T LET THE FACT THAT HE WRITES ENTERTAINMENT NEWS FOR FOXNEWS.COM FOOL YOU. HE’S FROM THE CNN/BBC VIEW OF THE WORLD. HE ALSO LOVED “MUNICH” AND THINKS IT’S GREAT THAT HAMASNIK CAT STEVENS WAS ALLOWED BACK IN THE U.S. TO PROMOTE HIS NEW ALBUM.

Gosh, I’m such an idiot. When I first heard about this movie last week, I thought to myself, “This is going to be a great movie. There’s no way BrAngelina could turn this sad story into a pro-jihadist film. Surely they won’t let their political viewpoints get in the way since this is based on an actual event.”
Wow, I’m so naive. Can’t really trust anyone to do the right thing these days.
IT’S NOT A PRO-JIHADIST FILM. BUT IT IS A WHITEWASH AND AN ATTEMPT TO SHOW US THAT MUSLIMS ARE MODERATE, ETC. AND THAT’S BAD ENOUGH. I BELIEVE THE FOLKS AT CAIR WILL HAIL THIS FILM.

The director, Winterbottom, last year made movie, “The Road to Guantanamo”. I would never see that kind of trash, but in Winterbottom’s world, the inmates at Guantanamo are all innocents, and America is the abuser of human rights and freedom.
It’s no wonder Jolie signed on to work with Winterbottom, a Brit who is clearly as deranged and anti-semitic as most of the rest of the UK.

Thee_Bruno,
Where have you been??? It’s good to have you back! It just wasn’t the same without your rather “expressive writings”. There’s nothing like a good Thee_Bruno posting to get a “liberal” like me all fired up in morning! You’re like the “New York Yankees” of the Schlussel comment section…we love to hate ya’!
Anyway, there’s no doubt about it….Daniel Pearl was brutally slaughtered by terrorist Islamic thugs. I wanted to see the movie because Mrs. Pearl seemed pretty cool and I like Angelina Jolie as an actress (and she’s gorgeous, although those legs are too skinny!). However, if the movie plays down the fact of how Mr. Pearl was murdered, then I am no longer interested.
There is a growing cancer of anti-semitism around the world and the cause of it and who propagates it should NOT be white-washed by Hollywood or anyone else. But it will be of course…..
I’m not in any way trying to slur Islam. But there are those within the Islamic community worldwide who are fueling a level of anti-semitism not seen since early 20th century Nazi Germany. And if it’s not anti-semitism, it’s societal distablization in places as wide-ranging as Nigeria, Indonesia, the Phillipines, India…you name it. So even though I disagree with Ms. Schlussel on many issues and think she is irresponsible with her words too many times, I do have to admire her diligence in monitoring this threat.

Ms. Schlussel: I certainly understand why you would not want to post on your site the actual video and photos of Daniel and his horrific demise. But I agree that these are things that should be seen at least once, to drive home the reality of who the enemy is that we are facing. Can you tell me where such videos/images can be found if I ever start losing my conviction, as I never have seen them?
thanks,
Bruce

This anti-Islamic behaviour is exactly what is driving the division against muslims.
Almost all of Iraq has been wiped out and all that started way before 9/11. Yet all people can talk about is 9/11. Glad you got your views straight.
Poor muslims.

You obviously don’t understand the possible benefits of a movie like this in helping to shape moderate Muslims- and yes debbie, moderate muslims do exist. To stop people like Al-Qaida, they have to be alienated within their own societies. Toward that end, moderate muslims must be encouraged to speak out against murderus fundamentalists, which they have. The problem is that THIS view of moderate, non-violent Muslims is NOT shown in movies, TV and on the news, which makes the Western world overlook their existence and makes them feel alone and unappreciated while at the same time feeling beseiged by fundamentalists neighbors.

Let’s be honest Debbie: there are plenty of movies with the bad Muslim terrorist guy in it. Do we really need another? Do ALL movies have to trot out your own black and white view of the world, and if they did ( and most do), what would be the consequences?????
For example, people who support a fair settlement between Palestine and Israel do not by default hate Israel and Jews. Your black and white view of the word strikes me as very Al Qaeda-esque.

Heather on June 12, 2010 at 11:46 am

Wow…this pisses me off. I haven’t seen the movie but you talk about it like you know everything about Muslims…you don’t so shut up until you get the facts. I am an American Christian in Amman and props to Jolie for doing something good for the world. The religion of Islam is for peace and I have never met a more hospitable country. They are upset with the bad rap that they get and people should step back and realize that their are horrible people in every culture. By definition we are all Muslims(excluding atheists) “One who submits to God”. Again…try doing your research on all parties before you put people down.
