Happy Ramadan From Hezbollah High’s Football Team: Your Tax $s @ Work

By Debbie Schlussel

Where’s the ACLU?   Crickets chirping whenever the separation of mosque and state is involved, as with Dearbornistan’s Fordson High School a/k/a Hezbollah High, which scheduled football practice at Midnight in observance of Ramadan, a clear violation of the U.S. Constitution’s Establishment Clause.  Remember, this is a tax-funded public high school in the United States of America.

alihoussaikyfootballteam.jpgfordsonhighschool.jpg

ACLU-Hassle-Free @ Hezbollah High While Football Team Does Muslim Prayer

Several years ago, I told you about Fordson (see also, here), where the majority of the students are Muslim, and where Islamic proselytizing and discrimination against non-Muslim students and faculty is openly embraced.  I told you about the school’s then-principal Imad Fadlallah, who is a close relative of recently departed Hezbollah spiritual leader Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah.  And I told you about Fordson’s football team, which openly violates the Constitution’s establishment clause by engaging in Muslim prayer before each game.  (That’s in addition to cheating scandals in which Fadlallah’s nephew took the ACTs impersonating several Muslim football players, so they could qualify for college football scholarships.)

But, now, there’s the football practice at Midnight.  While the Constitution allows public institutions to provide a modicum of reasonable accommodations for religious observances, it is clearly unconstitutional to endorse a particular religion, such as organized Muslim prayer by the team at football games and football practice at Midnight.

But, in America, it’s only when an institution embraces Jewish or Christian practices and prayers that the ACLU and every church-and-statenik raises holy (or, in their case, unholy) hell.

Playing football during Ramadan is nothing new. . . . This year . . . Ramadan is taking place during double sessions — when the bodies of high school football players are taxed the most. . . .

Practicing four or five hours, with a break in between during the hot days of August without food or water is potentially dangerous. To prepare for Ramadan, Fordson coach Walker Zaban scheduled practices at night. Monday’s practice began at 12:01 a.m., the earliest allowed by the Michigan High School Athletic Association. The rest of this week’s practices began at 11 p.m.

Starting practice so late allows the players and coaches to eat and drink, and complete their meals an hour or so before practice.

It also allows the players to practice during the coolest part of the day.

Zaban estimates 95 percent of his players are Muslim.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s 95% or 100%. This is a clear violation of the Establishment Clause. And it violates the rights of the 5% non-Muslim minority on the team, which is probably afraid to voice its opposition due to frequent bullying of non-Muslims at Fordson.

“We make no excuses for it,” Zaban said about his football team. “Look, football gets the spotlight because it’s football. (But) our cross country teams have to go through this, the girls on the volleyball team have to do it — so do the other schools in our district.”

Though Fordson has a greater percentage of Muslims, many also attend Dearborn High and Dearborn Edsel Ford, the two other public high schools in Dearborn. Dearborn coach Dave Mifsud also changed his practice schedule. Dearborn’s practices start at 5 p.m. and last until 10:30 p.m.

Again, another case of establishment of religion. If you are a Dearbornistan resident who objects to this, please contact me, and maybe we can do something about it.

Stay tuned.

One solution: Move.

Broomer on August 13, 2010 at 1:58 pm

OK…but they are still a bunch of pussies.

#1 Vato on August 13, 2010 at 2:26 pm

Simple solution. Open pig farms around any Muslim community, schools, centers (Ground Zero mosque),etc…and force them to move until they all, eventually, return to where they really want to be – backward ass Arab countries. Remember, ass munches, YOU came to America, so ADAPT, accept and live WITH our laws. You want to observe YOUR traditions…Go the F*CK back to your COUNTRY. And no – I’m not ignorant or racist or whatever. I’m an American (born overseas of Latino roots); who is AMERICAN 1st. You don’t like it “F” you!!

Also, if these idiots, born here, hate America so much why don’t they – renounce their American citizenship; return to the countries, they “love”,were the societies are still practicing 7th Century policies and blow each other up.

F*ck you all and leave the rest of us alone. This is America.
Unfortunately, these cesspool of communities brought to you courtesy of I’m-a-victim-radical-moonbats-liberal-progressive-teachers-Democrats-RINOs-jihadi-loving politicians and their spineless ethics, values and policies.

You do seem like an ignorant. In fact, you are so knowledgeless and classless that i would not doubt for a second that you are an American.

Pilgrims and european settlers did not adapt to Native American cultures in the States. If they did, they would not have brought so many individuals (more than the nazis in WWII) to their extinction through smallpox/other european diseases, shady land contract deals and general hate-filled violence of every variety.

Also, i don’t think it was Native Americans who brought Africans by the masses as slaves. Without a people to run off their land, and another group to enslave/exploit, do you think your “America” would look this way? probably not. Easy to see why some people are feeling disenfranchised in this country from my position in the midwest. You are entitled to disagree, but if you do, stop reading as im sure your mind cannot comprehend this.

If Muslims are changing our culture, and it is through violence, I would say they learned it from us quite nicely.

You have two options: Show that people of ALL races and ethnicities can learn and flourish here, the way our founders and others who died for these rights would want it to be.

OR, you can tell these young kids that they cannot share in the joys and benefits of this country because they worship their god in different ways. Make them feel like second class citizens, and see what happens. You may not like people being mad enough to be critical of the state of our nation, but i’m sure you like that better then people getting mad enough to plot the death of your loved ones.

You want to talk about re-loading like you’re the only guy here with a gun. I invite you to bring your gun to a Plane-Bomb fight and see what happens.

In short, your attitude perpetuates the hate. Hope you love living by the sword because that is how you will die little man.

    Regards from Nebraska

Is the cheerleading in full burqua gear?

CaliforniaScreaming on August 13, 2010 at 2:47 pm

Actually, the night practice is a good idea. Not only is the temperature more bearable, but most HS games are played after dark and it’s important to adapt in advance. Must admit though, I don’t understand the connection to Ramadin (misspelled intentionally). Are they not permitted to eat, drink, and chase 72 burqa-clad virgins during daylight hours?

Graty Slapchop on August 13, 2010 at 3:42 pm

Debbie your a bitch and really no one gives a shit what you think. Write what you want take pictures of what you want. Go spy on people with those stupid costumes you wear. No one cares. Fordson is going to Continue to practice at midnight weather you like it or not. Rima Fakih won miss USA weather you like it or not. Moe abboud was killed by a dirty Chaldian and you sat here trashing him while his family and friends were grieving for their loss. Your just a heartless bitch and as for the chaldean he shouldnt have been carying a knife to begin wife. You find any little reason to judge the arab community and say these things. Say what you want and do what you want thats not going to stop us because honestly if no one has informed you yet you dont matter. Oh and by the way your botox injections are started to look retarted as you age do something about it! and those wrinkles under your eyes oh hunny you must really fix your face maybe thats why you went ragging on Rima when she won the crown.

Rima, Your response to Ms. Schlussels remarks are so typical of those who don’t have a response to obvious statements of truth. The name calling merely shows your ignorance, it’s not a response that’s remotely logical. You’d be a terrific addition to the A.C.L.U.’s staff, however.

“Debbie your a bitch and really no one gives a shit what you think. Write what you want take pictures of what you want. Go spy on people with those stupid costumes you wear. No one cares.”

Actually, the people on this site and elsewhere do care, or you would see not have seen any comment. In fact, you also seem to care, otherwise why would you even be posting here? In fact, you are squealing like a stuck pig. You should work on be less transparent.

    worry01 on August 16, 2010 at 2:27 pm

RIMA: Where do I start? You can’t spell. You can’t think. You are a pest, as well as an idiot. If you disagree with this site go blow off steam on Huffpo or The Daily Beast. They are perfect for simple minded people. You sound like an anti-social 12 year old locked in your bedroom. And you probably have more than one name to send your nasty comments. As for Mary, many of those Muslims you seem so fond of would not listen to a woman because they are crazy. There is no reasoning and building bridges with people who want Jews and Americans wiped off the planet.

Vicki on August 16, 2010 at 6:45 pm

Unlike many conservatives, I’m consistent on this issue. Keep the government OUT of religion.

This means NO prayer in school (including sporting events),NO nativity or other religious scenes on public property, and NO more using our public airports as makeshift mosques for Muslim cab drivers.

The inconsistency on this issue by many conservatives comes into play when they correctly complain about “Dearbornistan” violations of mosque and state separation, yet these same conservatives have no problem with violations of church and state separation such as public school sports coaches and students engaging in prayer. In many parts of the country, public school sports coaches lead students in Christian prayer.

Scott on August 14, 2010 at 4:59 am

Freedom of Religion.
The school districts in our area are made up of predominantly christian families and prayer is involved in just about everything in school and public events.
The sing-a-long assemblies at Christmas, for instance, include both religious and secular songs. The more advanced choir students learn latin religious songs from centuries past and also many songs from Jewish culture and tradition.
Sometimes our sports practices are scheduled at very early morning times or very late night times, but not necessarily for religious reasons; although sometimes they are if special holiday events are happening and it’s likely most of the team will be involved in the celebrations. It’s hard to have a practice with no athletes.
People can and do pray anywhere, anytime. Sometimes it might be noticable and other times it might not.
It’s been said that sometimes, normally non-religious kids become remarkably intentional about prayer–right before a test.

Aurora on August 14, 2010 at 12:29 pm

Your argument does not really work. Dearborn and other such places sacrifice the education of such players by having them up past midnight during school nights. Also, Dearborn is not a place you want to wander around late at night. It is complete insanity and impiety. That team is actually trying to circumvent its own religious regulations for the sake of a sports team. It would be like a Catholic priest claiming that he visited the bordello only after work and late at night when confronted with his behavior.

    worry01 on August 16, 2010 at 2:35 pm

I hope the few remaining rational Dearbornistan citizens who do not support murder of infidels, will indeed sue the school district. It would be just a minor victory, and surely would not deter further violations of separation of mosque and state; but those who truly are “peace loving” cannot allow public monies spent to support/promote a terrorist organization, i.e. ISLAM. Take a page right from the CAIR operations manual

Ace on August 14, 2010 at 12:54 pm

Pigs will fly before that ever happens…

    Rational Dearbornistan citizens??
    That’s hilarious…
An oxymoron if I ever heard one.
    So is “moderate Muslim”….

Who cares? on August 17, 2010 at 6:15 pm

Yes, the cheerleaders, pom-pom girls and majorettes are all in burqas. They don’t become eligible to participate until after their clitoridectomies.

The marching band, instead of making an “M” formation as Michigan does, or the “Script-Ohio” as Ohio State does, form Arabic characters that curse infidels.

If John Madden is covering the game as commentator, when he uses the telestrator (I don’t know if that’s spelled write b/c the term isn’t in the dictionary) and goes “Boom!”, “Boom!” he’s not describing critical parts of the play, he’s actually illustrating where homicide bombers have blown-up, killing opposing players and/or referees.

If Keith Jackson is doing play-by-play and a receiver or running back breaks loose in the open field, instead of his usual “Whoa Nellie” cheer he cries out “Alahu akbar!!!”.
When Hezbollah High scores a touchdown they cry out the same thing after beheading the referee and spiking his severed head.

CornCoLeo on August 14, 2010 at 1:02 pm

okay debbie, you don’t like this? Then remove how the high school celebrates all religions.

You claim to not be a racist, yet you are.
You are very unamerican! America stands for freedom of religion, you only stand for one religion.

SCREW YOU TOO, FRIGGING LIBERAL IDIOT!!!!

Mary Ann on August 15, 2010 at 3:20 am

Screw Hezbollah…They are nothing but terrorists and on there way to hell terrorists too

Mary Ann on August 15, 2010 at 3:13 am

Just so all you dumb asses know… Debbie actually used to sleep with 2 muslims that she worked for, must of been bad sex! and for the rest of you making the anti arab comments, you must be desendents of George Washington and John Adams! Or maybe you sailed the MayFlower With CC. Regardless get a life dude!

TractorNation on August 15, 2010 at 5:22 am

First of all, the person that said Christopher Columbus was on the Mayflower is my hero. I will be laughing all day, thank you.

I have got to say, thanks to Facebook, I met a lot of people around the world, I speak to many muslims that don’t know anything about their own religion. They just go by whatever their holy people tell them or the men in the family if they are female.

but if nothing else bothers you about this, let’s forget the Religious aspect, let’s look at this financially.

Who is paying for those huge lights to run all night? Who is paying for Police details because I doubt they want the kids out at midnight with no protection? Who pays?

We are in a recession, they should just forfeit the season.

Johny on August 18, 2010 at 7:40 am

All of your posts reek of ignorance. Why is it that every other religion can do these same practices except when it comes to Islam there’s always someone like you to point it out and fuss about it? These students are doing nothing more than merely practicing the religion that THIS COUNTRY gave them the freedom to do. Is there any terrorism going on? Get real lady, it’s just a highschool football team. You are nonetheless an extreme Islamophobe.

Dearbornistan? Really? Did you come up with that all on your own? Oh, how witty. Not. They say that love is blind, but hate must be blind too, because your hate for the Muslim world seems to shield your eyes from the reality of things. You go on and you blog and write all your non-sense and forget that even the laws in this country are derrived from Christian practices and the ten commandments. So forgive the Fordson football players who want to spend 5 minutes praying before practices. I can’t even pity someone so close minded.

Mary on August 15, 2010 at 10:26 am

Seriously, any one who reads this post and thinks she has a good point is insane. The school moved the practice time. That’s it.

You’re all a bunch of nutcases. Enjoy.

Leo on August 16, 2010 at 3:26 pm

I don’t presume to present a solution to the argument about separation of Church and State with regard to this article. I would however like to emphasize that the United States was founded as a ‘Christian’ Nation with tolerance toward others. The Constitution and the Declaration of Independence declare such. The recent removal of God from public schools seems to be only directed toward Christians. We as a Nation need to get our courts in line with our Constitution. At a minimum, there needs to be one standard.

Ron on August 16, 2010 at 3:31 pm

You all ain’t that bright, are you?

Steve Johnson on August 16, 2010 at 4:21 pm

America is dominately Christian, some schools are required to have prayers after flag salutes in some districts in Texas and other conservative states. One school district of many of those that violate the separation of church and state should not cause such a controversary. It seems that if you were really worried about the violation of constitutional laws you would openly write about all violations, you seem to specify Islamn the most. Seriously Debbie you just sound like any one of the brain washed Americans, who just buy into mass media of how Islam is taking over. Have some tolerance as for bullying of non-muslims you should also write about the decades of bullying of all non-Christians.

Manny on August 17, 2010 at 12:12 am

I am tired of watching muslims come here and establish themselves here.. legally or not, and turn our lives and laws upside down. Tolerance is one thing… their demands that we accommodate them at every turn is another thing. My daughters never caught a break when they had to miss practices to attend catechism or other ‘must attend’ events at our church.. This is ridiculous.. I agree with Manny… To Mary above… make sure you do a little more reading about the muslim population and their culture, and practices. You have no idea. They are creating pockets of their culture all over our country. Then .. when they cross our paths.. we have to be sensitive to them.. where’s their sensitivity in building a ‘masque’ near/at ground zero???? They’re here to infiltrate and make us conform, using our own laws.. and this, alone, should be outlawed.. read whats going on around this country with honor killings… You want to be sensitive to their ‘religion’.. which is just a ‘masque’.. for their politicized agendas of world domination… go move to iran/ pakistan..

seriously this lady is soooo ignorant. I go to fordson and I am a lebanese musim. I wish any jew or christian would try to fast for one day. They wont even make it! try going without food or water until 9 pm everyday for a month. Seriously im so sick of hearing people smack talk muslims. You are all ignorant. First of all islam is a religion of peace. The terrorists who call themselves muslims are not really muslims. They disgrace the religion. I bet if the jews crashed the twin towers and wanted to build a place of worship there would be no objection. Football is a huge thing at fordson and the hard practices would be almost impossible while fasting and their health would be at risk. Thats why they practice after midnight. Debbie, go find another hobby than to hate on muslims. and A Lil Wacked, iran and pakistan are not arab countries u twit

Zeinab on August 17, 2010 at 11:01 pm

So, I can’t buy a liquor on SUNDAY, can’t get mail on SUNDAY. People are told who they can and can’t marry as well as what sexual practices are allowed based on one religion’s superstitions. An athlete that refuses to play on SUNAY is often treated as a principled hero. But, when a school that is 95% muslim holds practice at night it is some kind of egregious violation? They ain’t praying at night, they are PLAYING FOOTBALL, our national sport! You people are WHACK JOBS. Schlussel is a WHACK JOB. Signed, a veteran that is amazed such idiots exist in this nation…

steveeboy on August 18, 2010 at 9:35 am

It’s actually hilarious that this story is being turned into a huge deal. It’s a high school football team that changed the times of its practice. SO WHAT?! Move on with your sorry lives. You people are just looking for excuses to complain about Muslims. I would think these children need to be praised for their dedication. I would much rather have them be practicing football, rather than doing drugs, alcohol etc..
because if they were doing said things Debbie would also have an article hating on them for that as well. It’s a lose-lose situation so whatever.

Bob on August 20, 2010 at 1:52 am

Hello, it is very funny how debbie and all these people that comment and say move back to your country and that muslims don’t belong here.. Look at you guys.. You don’t belong here.. Last time i checked in YOUR AMERICAN BOOKS AT SCHOOLS.. people have freedom rights. and could say and do whatever they want. So that is what people in dearborn do. I HARDLY ever hear anyone saying anything that puts anyone at threat around here. we don’t hate at any religion or race. that is all you people do on here. you have no time on your hands but to sit and talk smack. you guys should move if you can not handle FREEDOM.

LuLu on September 1, 2010 at 12:32 pm

I’m so glad I live in Australia. Sure, we have a fair case of muslim hatred that some right wing white morons do, but for the most part Australia is secular (that means, free to have any religion).

We’re one of the strongest economies in the world, we’re more or less peaceful, secular, relatively crime free. The more I read about the rest of the world the more I fall in love with my country.

John on September 10, 2010 at 9:20 am

Why are you sooo hung up on Fordson? Really get over it, you’re opinions aren’t doing anything. And for their coach, he didn’t set up midnight practices from his ass. He had to get permission for it. If it was such a big deal do you thing that they would have these midnight practices?
And the 5% non-Muslims are asked if its okay with them and their families.. guess what, IT IS! So don’t go around talking about your crazy Muslim obsession when you don’t have all the right facts! they are high schoolers get over it! If they didn’t like football they wouldn’t do it!
You are so ignorant. Go threaten other cities, your Dearborn stories are REALLY, REALLY getting old.

You articles are so predictable, its sickening.

abc on September 10, 2010 at 9:40 am

Wow,haha, you are so pathetic. You honestly have nothing to do in your spare time than to pick on high school students. It must show you’re really busy! As for your against the constitution speech, cut the crap. You’re trying to tell me that the fact Christmas falls during winter break has nothing to with the fact that the US majority are christians. And all of the moment of silences that are held in public schools have no religious standing and are constitutional. How about the fact that Saturday and Sunday happen to be the weekends and they just happen to be the Jewish and Christian Sabbath days?
Every community has a certain majority that the community conforms to that majorities ways. Whether you agree with it or not, it’s fact and it is prevalent in every public school, not just Dearborn Fordson High School. I remember when I was in high school, after every football game our team would pray in the catholic style. Since I wasn’t catholic, I didn’t believe in it but the majority of my school was catholic, so I accepted it for what it was. So before you try to demean Fordson for having practice at midnight, maybe you should get your head out of your rectum and see what the majority of so called “White” and “Black” public schools do first. Unfortunately, your ignorant bigoted mind will not let you see the facts so really this is just for the other readers. As for you, get a job or something. Do you honestly have such immense time to write such an extensive blog about a bunch of high school students?

Spencer Jerome on December 3, 2010 at 10:16 pm

The school moved the practice time so that the players would have the strength to practice effectively (since they’re fasting during daylight). It’s not in observance of Ramadan, it’s so they don’t suck in the upcoming season because they couldn’t practice.

Charlotte on June 16, 2011 at 11:15 pm

The school moved practice to suit the players needs not ramadaan specifically. Football is a team sport after all what’s best for the team should go. Secondly your America is so called free, why takeaway the FREEdom of people to pray where the want, to which God they want and how they want if its not causing any harm. You people should really educate yourself on this freedom you always talking about. @ the topic of the coach being Hezbollah associated- no one should be deemed ‘bad’ by association. These are your American neighbors you should stop suspecting them they are in most ways just like you. Rather support them. @ Debbie, like you have the right to your opinion you have the responsibility to educate yourself unbiasedly on the topics you choose to discuss. Maybe speak to people on the team, coach etc.
@ those of you calling each other names it shows the ignorance created by the media or the failure of the American education system. To all of you, a society united is an invincible one so get to know your fellow Americans from all walks of life and stand TOGETHER. p.s its the drug dealers, rapists and murderers you should call terrorists

joesephine on August 10, 2011 at 3:01 pm

Wow debbie you are so clever with how you’ve changed the name of the school and the city! Are you two years old now? Still trying to be a bully to high school kids?

Most of these kids and their families have been here well over 75 years now. They are born and raised AMERICANS you stupid tw@t. Your ignorance knows no limits you domestic terrorist piece of sh!t just like some of your retarded ilk commenters saying to go home. Home? Their home is HERE knuckle dragging Teanderthals.
