Schmuck of the Year: NYTimes’ Thomas Friedman Stands By “Jews Bought Congress” BS

By Debbie Schlussel

I don’t begrudge the gentile and Arab Muslim Jew-haters and Israel-attackers as much as their Jewish anti-Semitic comrades.  My fellow co-religionists who hate themselves and where they come from have a serious mental illness that is, sadly, celebrated as greatness in our culture.  One of the worst of the so afflicted is Thomas Friedman, the New York Times columnist who has a past with the anti-Israel “Peace Now” movement in Israel and who would race from his DC-area mansion and run over his own mother if it meant the chance to eat shawarmeh with King Abdullah (either the Saudi or Jordanian King Abdullah, take  your pick as he bends over for both) and attack Israel.

Tom Friedman w/ His Original ManCrush

Recently, Friedman wrote a New York Times column that echoed some of the most vile anti-Semitic rhetoric coming out of the Stormfront crowd.  He claimed that when Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu got a standing ovation after  his speech to Congress, it was “bought and paid for” by Jewish money.  This is the same kind of rhetoric you can regularly hear from the Pat Buchanans and neo-Nazis of the world, and from the various speakers to anti-Semitic Muslim groups around the country.  It’s shorthand for, “Evil Jews use money to bribe leaders to do evil.”  It’s a centuries-old canard used by anti-Semites in murderous pogroms and Holocausts against Jews throughout Europe and the Arab and Muslim worlds. Remember that, the next time you see this mustachioed fraud on NBC’s “Meet the Press” or elsewhere, such as hosting TV shows on the History Channel.

Reality Check:  In fact, Congress is pro-Israel, not because of the Jews (many of whom are not pro-Israel) or “Jewish money” (much of which goes to consistent Israel-haters like Obama with no concern for what he does on Israel or other issues that should be of Jewish concern) but mostly because of the large pro-Israel Christian population in America.   Despite this, Tom Friedman never lets the facts get in the way of his desire to be loved and accepted by Jew-haters.  It’s a common mental illness among Jewish anti-Semites, who hate themselves and their heritage.  His self-hatred is the most precious thing he has, other than his cheesy mustache.  Now, this scumbag, Friedman, stands by his BS:

New York Times columnist Tom Friedman told The Jewish Week Tuesday that he regrets writing in his Dec. 13 column (“Newt, Mitt, Bibi and Vladimir”) that the standing ovation Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received in Congress this year “was bought and paid for by the Israel lobby.”

“In retrospect I probably should have used a more precise term like ‘engineered’ by the Israel lobby — a term that does not suggest grand conspiracy theories that I don’t subscribe to,” Friedman said. “It would have helped people focus on my argument, which I stand by 100 percent.”

Of course he stands by it . . . just as he stands by his friends in HAMAS and Saudi Arabia rather than standing with America and what’s best for its interests. Now, I could engage in anti-Semitic stereotypes using Tom Friedman as Exhibit A, since he never puts America first. But, then, that would be saying that Tom Friedman is actually a Jew in any way other than an accident of birth and our misfortune that he trumpets his obviously Jewish surname to justify his pan-Arabist BS.

In truth, Tom Friedman isn’t a Jew in any way shape or form. Instead, he’s a far-left radical in a tweed coat with a BS Pulitzer Prize. And if you ask his patrons in the Gulf states and the Middle East, to them, he’s just the pet camel . . . bending over and assuming the position.

I’m not sure who paid for Friedman’s mansions, aside from many gullible dumbasses who bought his cliche-filled, toilet-paper-worthy books. But I wouldn’t be surprised if his writing and commentary was bought and paid for by the Arab Muslim lobby. Someone needs to look into that.

If we were back in 1941 Europe, Tom Friedman would be rounded up and sent to the camps, just like every other Jew. He’d likely have avoided the ovens playing the same kapo to Jew-haters that he so masterfully plays today.

Today, Tom Friedman’s nothing more than a Ron Jeremy look-alike (from the waist up) with far more dangerous views. My apologies to Mr. Jeremy for the comparison because, after all, Jeremy provides a service with some value on the market. One is a porn star who is honest about it and happens to be Jewish. The other writes anti-Israel porn for Muslims, pretends otherwise, and happens to be Jewish.

Tom Friedman & Ron Jeremy

Like I said, at least Ron Jeremy provides does something of value. I can’t say the same for Thomas Friedman, whose only “service” is servicing his friends in the Muslim world in the way only a suicidal masochist would.

The real sickening part of the story is that the biggest number of subscribers to this rag of a paper are Jews who think they are being intellectual by purchasing the NY TIMES. In fac, they are true anti-intellectuals. The only good national newspaper is the Wall Street Journal (usually).

Look, the NY Times has always been anti-Semitic. Founded by German American Jews in the mid 1850’s, the paper has always reflected a disdain for Eastern European Jews (you know, the ones who have won a plurality of Nobel Prizes for science, literature, Medicine, economics, etc.). In 1896, the NY Times had an editorial encouraging the blocking of Eastern European Jews to our country, arguing they were dirty, uneducated, and uneducatable.

In 1947, the editorial (written by a an anti-Semitic Christian) opposed the founding of Israel.

Of course, being self hating Jews, the descendants of the founders did what came naturally…they converted to Christianity, and I truly feel sorry for the Christians, because these people will become self-hating Christians as well as anti-Semites.

Thus, Thomas Friedman fits into the long, anti-Semitic history of the NY Times. This history would end if Jews just stopped buying this anti-Semitic, anti-American rag of a paper.

On occasion, copies of the NYT are handed out for free on the streets of NY. I don’t even take it then, for free. I have better things with which to wipe.

Jon, G-d has interesting sense of humor. He brings me back from the dead so I could see Tom Friedman being made fun of on here. I just happened to come back home tonight from a hospital in Colorado Springs. Needed a cardiac catheter for a failing heart. I must say I disliked Friedman when I read his book “From Beirut to Jerusalem” in the late 1980s. You don’t have to read far to discover his love for Hezbollah, the PLO and Hamas, his adoration for the suicidal Israeli Left and his hatred of all things Israel. The man hasn’t learned anything new in the past half-century and age has made him only more stupid. When his time comes, no one will miss him.

I’m glad that your operation went well, NormanF. I hope that you are well.

JeffE on December 22, 2011 at 9:13 pm

Thanks, Jeff. I eat right, exercise and never smoke and abuse drugs and my artery still got blocked. I guess after 49 years, I couldn’t expect to have my heart always work perfectly in the last decades of my life but because I took care of my health, I was able to recover fairly quickly and I feel quite good.

NormanF on December 23, 2011 at 11:53 am

Welcome back, Norman. You didn’t, though, mention the most interesting paragraph in From Beirut to Jerusalem. It was when Friedman admitted, without shame or apology, that he regularly skewed his reporting–for which he won a Pulitzer as the Times’ Mideast correspondent–because of threats from Arafat and his henchmen.

And Debbie, most of his great wealth is his wife’s.

Louie Louie on December 23, 2011 at 1:01 am

        I appreciate it, Louie.

Good point – Journalists send to the Middle East tend to be pro Arab or pro-Islamic. The closed nature of Arab societies makes any kind of real independent reporting impossible. There is no free press, no civil society and no dissenting voices. And the dissenting voices that are authentic tend to be even more extreme than the authorities.

We should be getting the truth about the Middle East from the Western press but we aren’t and won’t get it in the future. In that respect, Friedman is not the exception and in the Middle East journalistic fraternity, guys like him are in fact the rule.

NormanF on December 23, 2011 at 11:59 am

Jonathan, your understanding of the the New York Times and the tradition long established by the Sulzbergers, the family that controls the NYT, is basically correct. As the old Santayana saying goes, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” And Leftists, like Thomas Lauren Friedman and the Sulzbergers, and are much more likely than others to have that collective amnesia. Thus, they have learned absolutely nothing from the horrors of WWII, as they support those enemies of the USA and Israel that could ignite WWIII, and set the stage for another Holocaust.

This perverse tradition is best understood by looking at the historical antecedents of the perversity, and WWII provides the clearest examples.

In Germany in 1933, Before the Nazis fully implemented their anti-Jewish policies, Germany largely consisted of two types of Jewish groups: The “Ostjuden” and the assimilated “German Jews.” Although they were really people with a common origin, the German Jews The “Ostjuden” were the “Eastern Jews” whose “Jewishness” was more clearly evident by their manner of dress and other cultural characteristics.

The German Jews hated the Ostjuden. One such German Jew was Dr. Max Naumann, a retired WWI army captain and the founder of an organization called the “National German Jews.” In March 1935, Naumann wrote to Hitler and told him that they had fought to keep Ostjuden out of Germany. Naumann wanted Hitler to force the Ostjuden to leave Germany because he believed that these “hordes of half-Asian Jews” were “dangerous guests” in Germany and must be “ruthlessly expelled.” (See Bryan Mark Rigg’s extraordinary work, Hitler’s Jewish Soldiers, University Press of Kansas 2002.)

Today, the “National German Jews” continue the same tradition in the form of Leftist/Liberal Jews who believe that Jews should be expelled from Israel and/or Israel should cede its lands and resources to Muslim Arabs. Thomas Lauren Friedman and the Sulzbergers, unfortunately, fit that mold all too perfectly.

To end this post on a lighter note, the modern version of the Leftist Jew can nicely be summed up in some dialogue by Woody Allen in his film Annie Hall (1977). What makes this part of the film funny is that the stereotype described in it not only contains some truth about the liberal/leftist Jews, but that Allen is talking about himself as well:

Allison: I’m in the midst of doing my thesis.

    Alvy Singer: On what?

Allison: Political commitment in twentieth century literature.

Alvy Singer: You, you, you’re like New York, Jewish, left-wing, liberal, intellectual, Central Park West, Brandeis University, the socialist summer camps and the, the father with the Ben Shahn drawings, right, and the really, y’know, strike-oriented kind of, red diaper, stop me before I make a complete imbecile of myself.

Allison: No, that was wonderful. I love being reduced to a cultural stereotype.

Alvy Singer: Right, I’m a bigot, I know, but for the left.

Thomas Lauren Friedman, along with most of the Sulzberger family members, are graduates of Brandeis University.

It is a mystery to me why so many Jews would patronize a business that hates Jews so much. It is also a mystery to me that any business that knows its demographics would say insulting things about its most loyal patrons. These two enigmas exist simultaneously without explanation and defy logic.

I would never buy a NT Times and when the website starting charging for content, I stopped visiting the site. Besides the advertising web traffic, I could never bring myself to give these anti-semitic socialists and Obama apologists a dime. Unfortunately there will always be a Jewish following for this paper. Go figure.

Let’s cut to the chase. Friedman is a psychopathic pimp!

Happy Hannukah and Merry Christmas to all.

Herbster on December 22, 2011 at 11:25 am

Debbie since you mentioned that Thomas Friedman sorta looks like Ron Jeremy, etc., I tend to have more respect for Ron Jeremy than for Thomas Friedman. And I totally agree with you in one of you’re statements between the lines:

“This the same kind of rhetoric you can regularly hear from the Pat Buchanans and neo-Nazis of the world, and from various speakers to anti-semitic Muslim groups around the world.”

DS, you also forgot to mention in that statement that some black nationalist groups have given anti-semitic speeches over the years across this country, so I don’t have to lecture you on it, because in the past you’ve called them out on their anti-semitic attitudes on this blog of yours.

And isn’t this the same Thomas Friedman who quasi defamed & libeled some conservative commentators earlier this year when Jared Loughner shot up those folks in Arizona? And I believe there’s a link on facebook that’s called for Thomas Friedman’s termination from the New York Times, numerous folks have clicked they “liked” it!

“A nation is defined by its borders, language & culture!”

And I’m still waiting for that call from the Zionist Conspiracy inviting me in, dammit.

Of course, let’s examine:

Countless other politicians around the country, bought and paid for by islamic oil money

Saudi “prince” uglyweed puts a billion $$$ into Time-Warner/AOL, which owns CNN (says uglyweed “I am in touch with executives at CNN on a daily basis to ensure the news remains balanced”).

Saudi “prince” uglyweed puts a billion into Newscorp, which owns Fox, amongst other news outlets

Saudi “prince” uglyweed puts hundreds of millions into Twitter, a “social media” outlet

Saudi “prince” uglyweed puts billions into financial organizations like Citibank

Billions and billions of islamic oil money invested in various media and financial institutions…

And does uglyweed really think that hamburger growing out of his chin is sexy or something?

Who was it now that “controls” the banks and media???

PsychoCheese on December 22, 2011 at 11:30 am

Totally agree with you Debbie. The only decent writer that the New York Times has employed is Gretchen Morgenson and her ability to write the book “Reckless Endangerment.”

Thomas “The Traitor” Friedman would do well to follow Gretchen Morgenson’s path. By doing so he would show some intellectual honesty.

Morgenson without a doubt has the same opinion as you do about Newt Gingrich. On Page 63 of Reckless Endangerment, paragraphs 2 and 3, Morgenson talks about Gingrich’s involvement with Fannie Mae. I wish that she would have put a dollar amount as to how much money Gingrich took from these criminals at Fannie Mae.

Gingrich should be bull whipped for this and on top of it the establishment Republicans want this criminal for President.

Why cannot Thomas Friedman do this type of reporting?

Confederate South on December 22, 2011 at 11:38 am

That’s a great column. There is a coordinated attempt to push the “Jewish Lobby” and “It’s all Israel’s fault” lines. We saw it with speeches by Gutman, Clinton, and Panetta. We see it from Media Matter’s MJ Rosenberg (whose strings are pulled by Clinton and Soros). We see it from Podesta’s Center for American Progress (again, Soros and the Democratic Party establishment).

In my view, it’s a coordinated attempt to separate American Jewish liberals from support for Israel. It seeks to purge pro-Israeli elements from the Democratic Party. Left-wing American Jews are going to have to decide whether they care about Israel’s survival or not. My guess is that they don’t, and they’d vote for Obama even after the proverbial carpet bombing of Tel Aviv.

adam on December 22, 2011 at 11:42 am

As Michael Savage puts it–“if the last time you were in Temple was for your Bar Mitzva, you’re not really Jewish”. He’s right in the same way all of these supposedly “Catholic” people run their mouths in favor of gay marriage, acceptance of homosexuality in the church, etc and haven’t been inside a Catholic Church in 20 years. Hint–you’re not Catholic then and if you don’t practice your religion, then you can’t really say that you’re a member.

This fact smacked me in the face when I was a kid and saw “Jewish” men wearing a yarmulke and ordering ribs and bacon cheeseburgers.

jimmyPx on December 22, 2011 at 11:44 am

Debbie you hit the nail on the head with this guy. He works for an anti-semetic paper and is just another self hating Jew. If he were around in the 1940’s he would probably be a rat. He looks like a Jewish Renfield and instead of reporting to Dracula he would rat out Jews to the Nazi’s and his gestapo friends to curry favor.

It is a shame we have so many brothers and sisters like this. What we need is more Jews who point out the evils of Islam perpetrated on a daily basis throughout the world against every other group of people. On that point Friedman is pretty silent.

Glen Benjamin on December 22, 2011 at 12:08 pm

I’d rather be friends with Ron Jeremy, too (but not in a porn way) he’s at least sweet and self-deprecating (from what I saw on his documentary and remember from his Stern visits).

Friedman is odious. He is the worst type of Liberal…limousene and anti-semitic.

As it happens, last evening I was talking to a Jewish friend I hadn’t been in touch with for a while, and the Tom Friedman column came up in conversation. Sadly, that friend has become more critical of Israel over the years. Given his citing of notoriously left-wing columnists from Israel’s Ha’aretz, that comes as no surprise.

But he tells me he knows Friedman, and has spoken to him, and he insists Friedman doesn’t hate Israel, that in fact he’s a “strong supporter”. Well, I tell him, he’s got a funny way of showing it. Recalling the line about “the road to Hell”, his intentions – however pure – manifest in ways consistently damaging to Israel. He’s expressed the same pathological attitude of the left toward anything Likud, the same hatred toward Netanyahu that even Israeli leftist Ari Shavit documented more than a decade ago. Maybe he’s peeved that Israel never bought into the Saudi “peace plan” he himself concocted. It must kill him that neither Israelis, nor the Congress, nor the American people buy into that attitude. So it must be “bought and paid for” – oops! “engineered”. (How is that different from “manipulated”?)

Friedman inadvertently exposes the cost-free nature of the public intellectual’s life. A businessman who makes a bad call loses money. The cost for a warrior who errs is in lives and battles lost. But for an intellectual? It hardly affects him in the least, as he’s already moved on. Friedman tore into Israel for not fully embracing the “Arab Spring”; Israel instead chose prudence as it watched how events played out. Israel’s position has been vindicated, though Friedman won’t admit it.

As to the question of “who paid for Friedman’s mansions”, Friedman makes a *lot* of money from his gig at the Times, his books and his speeches. And he married a woman from a very wealthy family.

You sound like a reverend Al, or Jessie type. Aka justicebrothers. The second somebody criticizes a foreign nation exerting strong influence over our own country, you SCREAM anti-semetism! No matter how strong the argument against you, you’ll just keep repeating it until you believe it. Your like uncle Leo on Seinfeld, everyone is anti-semetic!
I happen to support Israel, and the Jewish people, but I want them to stay the he’ll out of our business, and vice versa.
Why are you so quick to defend their policies, deb, with they actively spy on us and have attacked our ships, killing seamen without so much as an apology?

Why? on December 22, 2011 at 2:38 pm

Thomas Friedman does far more than simply criticize Israel. You might actually try reading what Debbie posted. As for your other ramblings, I can pick out a reference to the USS Liberty sustaining an attack in the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. Israel did apologize for that incident long ago and compensation was paid. You yourself have to explain why Israel would deliberately attack an ally who was furnishing so much material support, and risk being cut off?

Worry on December 22, 2011 at 4:30 pm

You have an interesting concept of “friend” and “support.”

Debbie, we at least have a good idea why Friedman is antisemitic (and self-loathing). He may look like Ron Jeremy in some ways, but in the ways that really count he’s always been deficient. Penis Envy!

    Occam's Tool on December 22, 2011 at 5:01 pm

Um Why?, where in this article did Debbie ever said that criticizing Israel is anti-semitic? She never said such stuff either in this article or in passed articles she’s written.

And there are some jewish people who are sel-hating and anti-semitic towards themselves, their heritage and culture! And also, there are some jewish people who are anti-Israel (mainly idiotic leftist jews) and some who are pro-Palestine, etc. Don’t think all jews support Israel and support their culture, religion, etc.!

To “Why?”,

You seem to “forget” that the Israeli lobby in Washington is made up principally out of American citizens (Jewish and otherwise)… Reading your post I would conclude that you don’t approve of these Americans exercising their democratic freedom to support whatever they want to support…

Then you go on to claim that Jews (plural) spy on the US on when there’s only been one (single) such case…

Then you go on to claim that Jews attack American vessels (plural) and don’t even apologize when the truth is that there’s been only one (single) such (accidental) case… For which the Israeli government has made multiple apologies and even paid reparations to the US government as well as the crew…

In short, you claim to be pro-Israel but your own words show otherwise…

Eliezer on December 22, 2011 at 3:53 pm

Note to ignoramus “why?”: The Israelis spy on the U.S.? They sure do. And for good reason: The U.S. spies CONSTANTLY on Israel hoping to find out if the little Jewish state is going to be mean to those innocent muzzie terrorists. Here’s a list of the recent U.S. spying on Israel: http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2005/06/next-time-someone-gets-indignant-about

An excellent book in regards to the NYT’s disgraceful history is Buried by the Times, by Laurel Leff. Prof. Leff details the Times’ grossly negligent (to say the least) reporting on the Holocaust and the period immediately preceding, and ties it to the anti-Semitic ideology of its owners.

The Hearst newspapers, ridiculed by liberals, had significantly better reporting of the slaughter of Jews during World War II.

Little Al on December 22, 2011 at 5:51 pm

I should point out Americans support Israel because they read the Bible.

That’s not something many people in Europe do. Its a healthy habit and the reason Congress supports Israel isn’t because Jews have bought influence but cuz Americans support Israel based on shared values and interests.

The number of Jew and Israel haters in America are marginal to the national debate. If Friedman, weren’t a New York columnist, people would write him off as a kook.

With his open hatred of Israel, I’d say he has richly deserved that fate.

Who is Tom Friedman? Why is his opinion better than anyone elses? Nobody can explain that to me.

Tom Friedman has a multi-million dollar a year contract with the New York Times. The New York Times is losing money. What a surprise!

Deb, for many years I’ve had a saying: “This is America! If you do what everybody else does, you get the same mediocre results everybody else gets.” News reporters and columnists have never quite understood that.

One day, someone in the news business said: “We won’t use the word ‘terrorist’ anymore.” All the other news sources fell in line. Now, every newspaper reports the news the same way. By doing this, they have eliminated competition. The product is so monolithic, there is no need for more than one news source. Then the news media owners scratch their heads wondering why they are bleeding money and going out of business. Newspaper reporters wonder why they are losing their jobs.

If newspapers had the courage to report the news as they see fit and stop adopting “standards” which amount to nothing less than self-censorship, they might still be thriving. Instead, they all report the same news the same way.

Tom Friedman will get what’s coming to him, Deb. Nobody needs HIM. He’s just another blogger. Perhaps after the NEW YORK TIMES goes bankrupt, they’ll figure it out; or sell the newspaper to George Soros for a dollar.

There is NO Santa Claus on December 22, 2011 at 9:23 pm

Thomas Friedman may or may not be an anti-Semite, but he most definately is NOT a self-hater.

He’s one of the MOST pompous, condescending, arrogant, narcisitic bastards to walk the earth.

Despite his frequent Israel bashing, many Arabs can’t stand him for the same reason most Israelis can’t – because he talks down to them the same way he does the Israelis.

With his numerous “open letters” over the years, his overall theme is that of a “wise observer” who knows better than the Arabs and Jews what the best course of action is in the Middle East, and if only they listen to him, peace will come to the Middle East.

Kudos to Debbie for focusing on two sick minds, the quarter-intellectual Emma Thompson, and the quarter-wit Thomas Friedman.

Well, at least Emma is not Jewish, so her vitriolic attitude of discrimination against a world-class theatre, Israel’s Habimah, just smacks of old-fashioned anti-Semitism. Imagine her outcry if someone dared to try to discriminate against homosexuals, retarded environmentalists, anarchists, lesbian feminists, fetus-killers, left-wing dictators, or better yet, Palestinian terrorists.

But Friedman, that self-declared Middle East expert? It is a sad fact, as Debbie points out, that self-hatred is not infrequent among Jewish opinion leaders, or, in Friedman’s case, opinion spewers. (In fact, there is a classic Jewish Bible commentator – the Kli Yakar – who, 300 years ago (!!!) diagnosed and forecast such self-hating tendencies, driven by the desire to be admired and accepted by the gentile elite).

Quarter-wit, inferiority/superiority complex-ridden Tommy boy. He has been, for many years, an advocate, directly and indirectly, of Arab hatred and rejectionism and, by extension, terrorism. At least the Israel-basher (see my blogs at bloggernie.blogspot.com) and pro-Arab Obama is a gentile. But Tommy Ramallah Friedman ?

Be ashamed of yourself, you Jewish anti-Semite.

BTW, your kind of people are highly racist. Why can’t you take criticism directed at your ‘politic’ ways the way it is? People hates the things you do, it just happen s you are Jews. If you were any other race they will hate you the same because it has nothing to do with that ( oh wait! Is Jew a ethnicity or it is just the name for the followers of a religion? Are catholics or Muslims a race as well??) Really mates, open your eyes or your narrow mind.
