We now know irrelevant minutiae about Newt Gingrich’s time as a professor at a small Georgia college in the early ’70s. And, yet, we still haven’t seen a single transcript from Barack Obama’s days in college or law school, or a single shred of the files from his time as a college professor. And, yet, unlike Gingrich, he’s the sitting President of the United States and has been for three years. Why is that?
Readers of this site know I have my problems and concerns with Newt Gingrich (see also here), though I have plenty of the same with Mitt Romney (and I would vote for either against Barack Obama in November). But today’s Wall Street Journal has an absurd article digging up Newt Gingrich’s “record” as a professor in the early 1970s at West Georgia College. Despite trying to make Gingrich look bad, the record presents what we already know about him: that he’s forward-thinking, full of revolutionary ideas, and that he was very ambitious from the start. Nothing wrong with any of those things.
But, again, why do we know nothing–absolutely nada–about Barack Obama’s time in college, grad school, or as a professor?
Where is Wall Street Journal reporter Elizabeth Williamson on this? Why isn’t she trying to dig that up? Why didn’t her paper try to dig that up four years ago when Obama was running for the White House as Gingrich is today? It’s amazing that they have Gingrich’s Masters Degree transcript from Tulane posted on the Journal’s website. And still not even a single Obama grade. Why not?
The Journal reports on an apology letter Gingrich writes about what seems to be a very minor episode that would be vastly overlooked today, but as you read it, ask yourself whether you believe Barack Obama would write a classy apology like that? Dream on:
The file contains a letter from Mr. Gingrich apologizing for his brusque treatment of Mr. Kennedy, the history head. “Occassionally [sic] a young man acting in innocence will cause trouble while pursuing what he believes to be a good cause,” Mr. Gingrich wrote. A memo on the incident written by Mr. Kennedy is missing.
Again, um, the entire Barack Obama file is missing! Hellooo . . . .? Oh, and why is there a weird pic of Newt’s visage in 1973 in the Journal? It’s clearly designed to make him look like an anachronstic freak. And yet, I’ve yet to seen the afro-endowed or Jheri-curled Barack photos from college and grad school. Why?
The double standard against conservatives and Republicans is so stark, so consistent, that it’s vomit-inducing. And it never seems to change, despite the fact that a growing majority of conservatives are sick of it. We want equal treatment. But we’ll never get it.
