Reagan/Bush Used NASA for Muslim Outreach Before Obama

By Debbie Schlussel

I’m surprised everyone is shocked that Barack Obama’s NASA Chief, Charles S. Bolden, Jr., announced that one of his three primary missions at NASA is Muslim outreach.

princesultanbinsalmanspace
“Payload Specialist” Prince Sultan: Reagan/Bush Beat Obama to the Muslim NASA Outreach Punch

In fact, the Obama administration is not the first to waste tax-funded NASA resources and space program on Muslims.  Ronald Reagan and his VP, George H. W. Bush, were.  But they just wouldn’t say so publicly.  At least Obama’s people are finally open about this outrageous behavior that isn’t new to his administration.  Sad, though, that it took Al Jazeera to get it out of them.

There’s an old cheesy joke that Yasser Arafat complained to Gene Roddenberry that there were no Muslim crew members on “Star Trek’s” Starship Enterprise.  Roddenberry tells him that’s because it takes place in the future.  But, in fact, in real life, the future has already happened in space for Muslims, and it wasn’t perpetrated by Barack Obama.

When I was an intern on Capitol Hill in the summer of 1985 and still in high school, Saudi Prince Sultan Bin Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud held a giant party for all of the young interns on Capitol Hill.  He and the Saudi Arabian Embassy rented out the Capitol Center and hosted free food, music, belly dancers, and other entertainment, trying to reach out to America’s future leaders and convince them of the modernity, hipness, and “appeal” of Saudi Arabia.  The was the real purpose.  But the ostensible purpose was to celebrate Prince Sultan’s trip into space, courtesy of NASA–Ronald Reagan’s NASA.  While ultimately this was Reagan’s move, it was carefully orchestrated by then-Vice President George H.W. Bush, a close friend to the Saudi Royal family.

There were exhibits all over the Cap Center party honoring Prince Sultan’s space trip.  And, at the time, everyone in the U.S. space program knew what a joke it was, what an obvious sop to the Saudis, given that the Prince didn’t have an iota of the years of training and skill it takes to become an American astronaut.  He had the title of “payload specialist,” but the only payload for which he was actually skilled was “pay the lady.”  Only months earlier, the Prince was the acting Saudi Information Minister and had zero space knowledge.

Everyone knew that this was a PR stunt that was outreach to Muslims in the form of fulfilling this spoiled Saudi Prince’s only unfulfilled Walter Mitty fantasy, courtesy of the Bush family that feted these people for decades.  The real American astronauts laughed that the pretentious Prince Sultan insisted on wearing his Islamofascist get-up for the group picture of the STS-51-G Space Shuttle Discovery crew, yet he dressed in space gear for his individual shot.  At the time, Sultan was the youngest person to fly in a space shuttle and not because he earned it.  Even worse, U.S. taxpayer dollars helped finance Sultan’s launch and deployment of the Arab Satellite Communications Organization’s ARABSAT-1B satellite in space, the ostensible reason Sultan was aboard the flight. Yes, the Saudis supposedly paid a token amount. But it didn’t cover the overwhelming costs incurred. And that’s not the point.

Will Barack Obama also put a Muslim in space?  I don’t know, but it’s irrelevant, since Ronald Reagan–with Bush, the father, pulling the strings–already topped him in this absurdly excessive bow to the Islamic world.  They started this, not Obama.  And George W. Bush, the son, reportedly tried to top both Pops and Reagan.  Until he and his wife started to come under extreme scrutiny (but zero repercussions) for funding the U.S. stays of at least two of the 9/11 hijackers, the rotund Saudi Ambassador Prince Bandar and his family members were talked up as possible space shuttle passenger candidates. Prince Bandar was, after all, so close to the Bush family that just after the 9/11 attacks, Bandar Bush–as he was affectionately called by the Bush family–smoked stogies with President Bush on the Roosevelt Balcony of the White House at night.

That’s not to mention that both Bushes and President Clinton allowed Dr. Ghanim Al-Jumaily, a top official of the Muslim Brotherhood and agent of Saddam Hussein, to reach staggering heights as a NASA scientist and to be installed as an Ambassador for “the new Iraq.”  It’s an exclusive story I broke on this site.  Jumaily even worked on the Mars Pathfinder Landrover.  And after his years scaling and infiltrating NASA, Al-Jumaily ran a HAMAS/Al-Qaeda charity in the Detroit area which was raided by the FBI and which apparently funded terrorists killing our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Bush Administration not only refused to indict him for terrorist money-laundering and financing, but okayed the new Iraqi government’s choice of Al-Jumaily as its Ambassador to Japan.  Among those who signed off on the outrageous Al-Jumaily appointment was Dan Senor, the consistently incompetent U.S. official in Iraq who is the false hero of many clueless Jewish political conservatives.  At the time, persecuted Iraqi refugees and victims of Saddam Hussein protested outside the offices of his charity.  But, because of people like Senor and Grover Norquist running the Bush show, nothing came of it.  Jumaily continues to live it up as Iraq’s Ambassador to his benefactors in Saudi Arabia. (To his credit, at least Bush didn’t put the kabosh on the mission of the only competent/qualified Middle Eastern astronaut ever on a space shuttle–the late Israeli, Ilan Ramon, of blessed memory.)

Yes, Barack Obama is not the first to seek out Muslims for NASA or even to wish to fly them into orbit on the U.S. dime.

It’s been done before.  And no one cared. But the lumpenconservative proletariat is ignorant and seems to eat up anything against Obama like vampires to raw human meat.  Where were they, though, when the Bushes and Reagan did it first?

Yes, it’s an outrage that Obama’s NASA guy told Al-Jazeera it’s one of his main missions.  But where were they when the Bushes and Reagan actually perpetrated a worse outrage by actually carrying out that mission and creating the precedent?

Crickets chirping.

NASA really has no future. It will slowly disappear.

So the Muslims learn to take off in the Space Shuttle but not how to land?

Pinandpuller on July 7, 2010 at 5:09 am

They will learn to “crash” ONLY.

I am seriously laughing outloud. I can’t believe “one of his three primary missions at NASA is Muslim outreach.”

    Are they serious?
Is that what they are paid for?
    Do they REALLY believe THAT?

This is a good example of job security (even though they don’t know WHAT their “job” is). All is lost.

I guess Wowwee is the latest Muslim infiltrator of this site. Maybe they figure that if they don’t use obscenity or make threats their comments have a better chance of staying up.

“On a lighter side” is one of the most ridiculous and false segues I’ve ever seen. First, suicides aren’t something light, but second, this has nothing to do with the post. Wowwee doesn’t decide what should be posted; it is not this person’s blog.

The comment about ‘suicides’ is an attempt to discredit the Israeli Army the clear implication is that somehow Israel has direct responsibility for this because it supposedly is against peace.

It is also, of course, meant to deflect emphasis from the Muslim attempt to weaken NASA and our space program. When I think of the elite in the US these days, more and more I just start thinking of France in the late 18th Century, people like Marie Antoinette, and other elites who had no awareness or interest in what was going on around them. But that elite was better than the current elite. At least they supported the American Revolution, it is at best quesitonable whether the current elite supports the values of the 1776 American Revolution.

Then again Bush 41 was a CIA man! And al-Qaeda was a CIA creation, that of one Zbigniew Brzezinski!

Dang Ms. Schlussel,

I never knew that, thank you Ma’am.

Old Testament – Proverbs 27:6 –
Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

Jew Lover on July 7, 2010 at 6:14 am

Wounds from a friend are cutting, and sharp, but they will do more good than the kisses of a treacherous, deceptive, crafty enemy.

For example, Nehemiah (Neh. 5.7-13); Jehu (2 Chron 19.2-11); Jesus (Matt 23); Stephen (Acts 7); and Paul (Acts 22.1-24).

Debbie–

As always, good stuff. Perhaps this posting will serve to diminish the foolish Reagan worship that has pervaded our so-called conservative movement.

So many seem to forget that it was Ronnie who brought the Bushes into political prominence. As I asked at the time, exactly what was wrong with Paul Laxalt as a running mate in 1980?

One more instance of the “Stupid party” screwing it up.

Red Ryder on July 7, 2010 at 8:50 am

@ Red Ryder, you have to put all things in perspective & don t forget that the Bushes were already prominent in the GOP Reagan did not bring them into prominence as you said and Reagan is deservedly revered not worshipped as one of the greatest presidents we ve had and if you can t recognize that then I am not going to waste my time with you, even Debbie agrees with this assesment of Ronaldus Magnus Reagan, the islamic revolution had not grown into what it is today,it is different to compare what Bush did at the time to what Ozero did, plus it was Bush and Bush has always had an affinity to both the chinese and the saudies.

Juan on February 6, 2012 at 7:37 pm

I appreciate that Debbie wrote this. I learned something I did not know before, and that is one of the reasons I love this site. I emailed Debbie asking if she was aware of this (I should have known she would be) and I am thankful she set us straight on the history of this travesty.

However, despite what the administrations from Reagan through both Bushes and Clinton may have done, their actions, outrageous as they were, are not even in the same league as what this administration is doing. The Bushes were assisting family friends, and the scope of their disgusting actions were limited in this regard.

Obama’s motivation is his agenda and attitude, no doubt born out by his friendships (Just like the Bushes) but also an attitude and agenda driven by spending over 20 years in that Church. He has made an entire Federal government agency (NASA), an agency that many American youngsters dream of working for, an integral part of his pandering to Islamofacism. Nothing any of the others did can even compare.

I_AM_ME on July 7, 2010 at 8:52 am

This was obvious Bush perfidy, but also pretty typical of post-Apollo space flights. The Soviets started with Salyut 7 and later with Mir- since no real science is done in manned space, why not use it as a carrot for allies and potential allies? Indians, Vietnamese, Syrians, and an Afghan or two flew to space on Soviet craft, and of course Frenchman, Germans, etc.

Sadly, this may be the end game of manned spaceflight.

I was to busy exploring Japan and not paying attention to politics (Domo arigato)
To me at that time Muslims just seemed to be some strange religion like Hinduism.

But I had a friend who grew up in Detroit who was a tall fair skinned red headed viking looking dude, who had very negative experiences with Arabs and Muslims, and the information I got from him was the first time I’d heard about their biases and hatred for this country.

ahhh, What historic contributions? 9/11? Charles Bolden forgot to mention Israel in his “international relationships” agenda where he will be more successful in expanding “future in space exploration, scientific discovery and aeronautics research.” Perhaps, NASA could save lots of money and spare the disappointment of trying (in vain) to help them (Muslims) feel good about their historic contribution to science … and math. Here is a clue. http://www.thejidf.org/2008/06/jewish-contributions-to-world-and.html

Steve on July 7, 2010 at 9:23 am

Cut NASA budget. NASA was always a very corrupt organization, and its budget was greatly expanded by Kennedy/LBJ for political reasons, ie, to appeal to the masses to look at the pretty rocket and go “wow.” Unmanned flight would have been much cheaper, and achieved so much more.

It was no accident that Houston became NASA’s base of operations. LBJ got kickbacks from his lifetime political benefactor Brown & Root (a construction company, later part of Halliburton) for the Houston NASA launch site/command center.

However, the corruption is much deeper than that. In 1960-61, Texas millionaires started buying up land at then exhorbitant prices in the sleepy town of Greenbelt, Maryland, then a farming community. Lo and behold the land that was purchased became part of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, and these Texas millionaires made even more money when the government purchased their land.

LBJ (Lyndon Johnson for those too young to remember) was first the Texas Senator in charge of the Senate Committee that controlled the space program. Later, when he was Vice President, he begged Kennedy to be in charge of the operation of the Space Program, and as President, he was in charge of the whole country). Each step of the way, he enriched his friends and himself.

NASA needs to focus on using space for military purposes, just as the Chinese are doing. Any other research should be unmanned.

Ok let’s see, what have the muslims produced over the last 1000 years, they’ve given us the numerical numbers of today (ie, 0,1,2, etc.), by them replacing them with the roman numerial numbers (those are the numbers that you see in every Super Bowl events in the NFL each year), they given us geomotrey, astrology, algebra, etc., so yes the muslims has produce some good stuff over the last 1000 years, but all of that was back 700-800 years ago. Now over the last 300-600 years, they haven’t produced anything at all, the radical islamist today don’t produce or create diddly squat, all they produce is violence, hatred, intolerance, etc. Atleast the islamist back in the conquest days where tolerant of other religions and produced stuff for society, nowadays, these radical islamofascist don’t produce or create anything useful!

“A nation is identified by it’s borders, langauge & culture!”

Sean R. on July 7, 2010 at 10:18 am

In response to Muslim contributions, I note that Arabic numbers are not Arabic, but Sanskrit. The Arabs did not give us the modern numering system. Geometry, algebra, etc. came from the Greeks, not the Arabs, and virtually the only scientists/physicians during the Islamic period were Jewish.

People have been brainwashed by the schools and the media. Study the older history books to find the truth.

Jonathan Grant on July 7, 2010 at 10:24 am

BS”D You’re right. The whole thing is outrageous – that is, it is an outrage. I suppose, on the one hand, at least the previous presidents either had the “decency” or shame to not advertise it too much. Remember, Carter sold so much of the US to the Saudis in the 70s..traditions continued. Obama, however, wants to give them their own space technology (while dismantling ours?. You may say that at least Obama is open. I say it may be in the open with him – but it is out of arrogance and not honesty.

There are things that one says this is an “either/or” situation or a “both/and” scenario. I believe, with all the administrations and their pandering and selling out America to the Arabs – it is a “both/and”. It makes me no more forgiving of ibn Barack, nor happier with the fact that Reagan and the Bushes (not to mention Clinton) participated in these actions.

Gene should’ve just told him that with their reputation for blowing up stuff that flies, there will be no muslim on a space ship. Just common sense.

skzion on July 7, 2010 at 3:47 pm

We should note that with the massive budget cut imposed on NASA, it is absolutely necessary for Muslims to be included in research and development. They have the scientific know-how to develop an Improvised Propulsive Device.

Nice use of “lumpenconservative proletariot”! Made me laugh.

I’m giving Reagan and Bush a pass on this one. In retrospect it looks bad, but at the time the policy was to court the Saudis and other “friends in the Arab world” to avoid another oil embargo and mess with the Soviets. I want to doubt Reagan and Bush knew all the details of the odious nature of that regime and how it could spawn the current crop of terrorists. It was an outreach that looks foolish now, but at the time made some sense. I do recall this episode as a long time NASA watcher. It didn’t raise red flags in my mind at the time.

Where are all the separation of church and state people yelling out? Should the government be reaching out to a specific religious group as one of the top three goals? Are they next going to reach out to predominantly Voodoo nations or Wicca religious groups?

I do not think it is wrong for all religious groups to be parts of the programs. I just think the government should stay away from endorsing a specific religious group. Be it Christian, Muslim, Wicca or Voodoo or any other religious group.

Ryan on July 7, 2010 at 3:40 pm

Holy s***; these people have lost their minds. When NASA’s stated goals are to kiss Islamic a**, then there can be no doubt that the Muslims are winning and they will not be stopped. As DS accurately points out, it doesn’t matter who or what party is in power, the constant policy will be to kiss Islamic a** and to repeat ad nauseam that Islam is a great peace loving religion.

A politician who dares to tell the truth about Islam and oppose it, would stand little chance of being elected. Such persons are labeled as crackpots and racists; even though Islam is not a “race”.

It is also damn near funny, that NASA wishes to embrace Islam; which is blatantly anti-science; it always has been and always will be, as Allah can be the only “science”. Throughout history, wherever Islam has flourished, science has floundered and was often destroyed. Any scientific contributions by Muslims, and there are very few, are in spite of Islam, not because of.

Ace on July 7, 2010 at 4:20 pm

I agree BUSh/Reagan allowed that Saudi to fly as a publicity stunt. However, what Obama is doing is worse. He cancels the Constellation program and throws NASA in to disarray. Yet finds time to make Bolden tell the Muslims how great they were in some touchy feely way.

That is not what NASA needs. It needs true leadership and money to return to the moon to stay. That will create jobs and push the boundaries of science forward.

spaceship22 on July 7, 2010 at 6:09 pm

You mean Ronald Regan wasn’t perfect? The right wing fear mongorers are now saying that obamas muslim outreach with nasa will result in an emp attack. Funny your probably the only conservative that will talk about bush and regan doing this. Mainstream right wingers are real good at playing dumb.

tyler on July 7, 2010 at 7:30 pm

Just for the record, that “Old Cheesy Joke” about Gene Roddenery and Yasser Arafat is not entirely facetious. Roddenberry was very much an outspoken Agnostic, and didn’t feel that organized religion of any kind had a place on the Enterprise. He insisted on having plenty of ethnic diversity among the main characters (an African, an Asian, a Scotsman a Russian etc) but that none of them would indicate or express any specific religious inclinations.

When “The Next Generation” series went into production in 1987, he put his foot down on this issue even harder with the writers. Originally they wanted the Deanna Troi character to be addressed as “Chaplain Troi” but Roddenberry changed it to “Counselor Troi.” He genuinely wanted to believe that in the future, earth’s population will have worked out all their religious differences to the point that that sort of thing would only be an issue when confronting aliens with conflicting spiritual philosophies. I guess that right now, it looks like the man was a bit overly optimistic.

In short, Roddenberry would certainly have had no problem with an Arabic or Israeli character working on the ship, but not an outspoken Muslim or Jew.

they seem to really love the moon, perhaps we could help them colonize it…if it wouldnt end up dimming its glow too much, I would be willing to give em the moon provided most of them could undergo the journey there and maybe a small adjustment period to living in a new environment…the creators of that monstrosity in Dubai would seem to be well suited to buggering up the moon…with all the zillions of smaller craters on the lunar surface it could save them considerable time and aggrevation when burying their women for the stonings…what else? this makes sence to me on so many levels.

The connection is the Occult. NASA is the Occult, which is very heavily drawing from Islamic Mysticism. They are involved in black magic, and they are doing it to quite a few Americans. They are learning from the Jinn how to use plasma to control the weather, with HAARP and the missile defense system.

Ella on October 10, 2011 at 2:01 am

After 4 years of careful deliberation, Muslim Clerics finally give their religious ruling on NASA’s outreach efforts. When asked what the real reason was, they responded (private communication) “No one to rob; nothing to destroy; waste of resources.”
