Nothing new that’s notable or good at theaters, this weekend.

* “The Great Gatsby“: Should have been called, “The Great Glitz-by,” or “The Jay-Z-izing of F. Scott Fitzgerald.” ‘Cuz that’s all it was, a bright, loud, horribly miscast, rushed-and-yet-long 2.5 hours pretending to be “The Great Gatsby,” the Fitzgerald novel about a mysterious millionaire trying to woo his married long lost love. And it was ridiculously drenched in cacophonous Jay-Z-infested synthesizer noise.

While the movie is better than I expected, that’s only because I set my expectations extremely low. It is pretty true to the book, even though reports said it was based on the darker first draft, “Trimalchio,” which Fitzgerald lightened at the request of his publisher. Still, the movie is filled with Jay-Z music, hip-hop, and rap. And the few musical notes that actually come from the era of the 1920s were pumped up on steroids, sped up and chock full of loud hip-hop beats. And the movie was way too bright, flashy, and glitzy from start to finish. It wasn’t eye candy. It was garish, distracting, and annoying. Oh, and I saw it in 3D. Why on earth does a novel about the wealthy old- and new-moneyed on East and West Egg (the fictionalized Long Island) in the 1920s need to be in 3D? I still don’t know. Read the rest of this entry »

**** UPDATE: It turns out that the man with the modified pressure cooker also had bomb-making literature and batteries wrapped in tape on him. And, yet, they let him go????? WTF?! See video, below. ****

The Boston Marathon terrorist attacks were not about pressure cookers. They were about the religion of the people who used the pressure cookers to murder and maim nearly 300 Americans: Islam. But, because we are a nation dominated by political correctness (and no common sense), the FBI has started investigating pressure cookers, instead of the TSA profiling Muslims. Take the man who was stopped at a Hawaii airport with what appeared to be a modified pressure cooker in his luggage. Yes, a modified pressure cooker sounds suspicious, and why would you have that in your luggage? On the other hand, the FBI let the guy go (if his pressure cooker was so dangerous, why let him go?), and instead “detained” the pressure cooker for further “analysis.” (Maybe they will make soup or stew with it?) That’s absurd.

The FBI held a passenger for questioning Wednesday when he tried to check in at Hilo Airport luggage containing what appeared to be a modified pressure cooker. The item was found during a Transportation Security Administration screening. On April 15, two bombs made from pressure cookers killed three people and injured 260 on at the Boston Marathon. As I always note whenever I hear of this or that “American” kidnapped or attacked in a Muslim country, you know the kind of American that is present in these places . . . the kind who probably deserves whatever he or she got. And so it goes with Chris Stone, the “American” stabbed in front of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, yesterday. Yes, he was attacked because he’s “American.” But he’s not very American at all, in fact. That’s exactly the kind of “American” loved by As’ad AbuKhalil, the Lebanese professor and self-styled “Angry Arab” in California, who rushed to praise this jerk.

A man stabbed in the neck near the US Embassy in Cairo on Thursday has been identified as Chris Stone, an American academic. Stone is associate professor of Arabic and head of the Arabic Programme at City University in New York and has been on sabbatical to conduct research into the late Egyptian musician El-Sheikh Emam. He was recently appointed by the American University in Cairo (AUC) to head the U.S.-based Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA).

Lebanese political science professor Asaad Abu Khalil described Stone via Facebook as a “model academic and a man who has dealt with Arabs and their causes with extreme respect, sensitivity, and support.” Stone is a strong supporter of the Palestinian cause and writes frequently against Zionism, Khalil added. . . . You may have heard news reports that Katherine Russell a/k/a Karima Tsarnaeva, widow of Islamic terrorist Tamerlan Tsarnaev, hired a new criminal defense attorney. But he’s not just any criminal defense attorney. Joshua Dratel is a far-left lawyer for Islamic terrorists, including Al-Qaeda operative/Gitmo resident David Hicks. He’s also one of those idiotic lefty schmucks who constantly whine about the “victims” of Abu Ghraib, about which he’s written “human rights reports.” You don’t hire this guy unless you’re an Islamic terrorist or aided and abetted one, which Katherine Russell Tsarnaeva probably did, since we know the bombs for the Boston Marathon terrorist attacks were made in her home and jihadist material was on her computer. There is no way she didn’t know about the Islamic terrorist plot before it happened.

Oh, and by the way, her new lawyer doesn’t have a very good record of keeping his Islamic terrorist clients from getting convicted and going to federal prison. Let’s hope he’s just as “successful” in his representation of Katherine/Karima Russell Tsarnaeva. She’s still NOT cooperating with the feds, by the way.

He previously represented a Brooklyn man, Betim Kaziu, whom a federal court jury in June 2011 found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder overseas and of supporting terrorism. U.S. prosecutors said Kaziu had taken al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden’s words and rebroadcast them as his own and disseminated messages from Anwar al-Awlaki on his MySpace page. . . . What do late movie star Brittany Murphy and the Mafia have to do with adequate protection of our borders from Islamic terrorists? They have nothing to do with it, and that’s why you shouldn’t fall for the conspiracy theory BS of Julia Davis, a fired former Customs and Border Protection (CBP) guard who worked at the San Ysidro border between the U.S. and Mexico.

For the last week, people have been sending me the video below of former CBP employee Davis, who claims the government attacked her for questioning the wanton admission into the U.S. of Muslim aliens from Mexico who are on the terror watch list. I know this goes on, and I am currently representing CBP agents who have the same concerns and experiences as Davis and were also harassed. Well, almost the same experiences. And that’s where Ms. Davis’ entire story lost me. She makes the ridiculous claim that late movie star Brittany Murphy and her late husband were targeted by government helicopters and later murdered by the feds for testifying on Davis’ behalf, which is absurd. Both died from illnesses. And this black helicopter crap is laughable, not to mention what on earth Brittany Murphy would know about the border or how the government reacted to a whistle blower. Davis also claims the Mafia is involved, too. Uh-huh. Sure they are. Here’s a summary written by Davis of the “documentary” that she and her husband are pimping:

Apparently, they got that computer that talks for Stephen Hawking to voice, “Heil Hitler!” Or, at least, the modern day version of it, which is “Boycott Israel!”

Renowned British physicist Stephen Hawking has pulled out of a June conference hosted by Israel’s President Shimon Peres, joining an academic boycott of the Jewish state, event organisers said on Wednesday. “Hawking joined the academic boycott of Israel and pulled out of the Israeli Presidential Conference: Facing Tomorrow 2013, under the auspices of President Peres,” they said in a statement. The man who rescued Amanda Berry–one of the women who’d been held hostage in the Cleveland house for ten years–gave an interesting interview to the media (he essentially accused White people of racism, though). Jimmy Kimmel packaged it up into a hilarious History Channel show (after all, in our Kardashian age, this is what “history” is, right?).

After spending two years in Saudi prison for fighting in Iraq, Khalid al-Suwid graduated in 2012, a free man, from the kingdom’s well-regarded rehabilitation program for religious extremists, Saudi officials said. Mr. Suwid was a government-certified ex-jihadist.

For the last few months, I’ve heard buzz from several sources who are outraged that John Kerry’s daughter, Vanessa Kerry (think John Kerry in drag with long blonde wig), is married to an Iranian-American doctor, Dr. Brian (Behrooz) Nahed. They wed in 2009, and some believe that his parents, Nooshin and Reza Vala Nahid of Los Angeles, have ties to the Iranian government, or at the very least that he has relatives in Iran, which compromises Kerry’s dealings regarding the Islamic Republic.

Some sources, including some Persian-American sites, noted that the New York Times announcement of the Kerry-Nahed wedding didn’t note Dr. Nahed’s birthplace of Iran, while the Times usually mentions the bride’s and groom’s birthplaces apparently. But I found something far more interesting in that announcement, which is far more embarrassing and compromising of John Kerry’s ability to serve as Secretary of State for the U.S. whether it regards Iran, the Middle East, or anywhere else:

I just can’t believe a stripper would resort to this. After all, everyone knows that strippers are just working girls who are only trying to save up until they put themselves through college and become the first rocket scientists to cure cancer and the STDs they contracted in the “Champagne Room.” Yeah, that’s the ticket.

This is technically not in the City of Detroit, but it’s just across the street on the other side of Eight Mile Road (yes, Eminem’s Eight Mile) in Farmington Hills, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. So close enough. I can’t find this online, so I had to scan it and post. Sounds like a ridiculous “Saturday Night Live” skit, but you just can’t make this stuff up. And in our Keeping Up With the Kardashians world, surely this Darwin-Award-winning stripper deserves a reality show, book deal, and millions of dollars for undergoing this ordeal of store credit for stripper boots.
