Echoes of Hillary: VIDEO – Guess Who’s the New Spokespimp for ObamaCare?

By Debbie Schlussel
I don’t know about you, but when I entered the polling booth on Election Day, back in November of last year, Michelle Obama’s name wasn’t anywhere on my ballot. No mention of her or of Michelle LaVaughn Robinson or of Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Hussein Obama Idi Amin Dada.
But, for some reason, this First Lady is now a policymaker and spokeschick for a number of Obama causes. First, she addressed Department of Homeland Security employees and snubbed ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). Then, she led cheers for Obama Supreme Court nominee Justice J-Lo a/k/a Sonia From the Block a/k/a So-So a/k/a Sonia Sotmayor.
Now, she’s the new pimp for Obamacare. And it has echoes–very, very scary echoes!–of Hillarycare. It’s like deja vu with a bigger booty. Well, since we’re comparing with Mrs. Clinton, maybe even that’s the same, too.

michelleobamabigbutt.jpg

YIKES!: America’s New National Dietician/Medical Doctor

As the debate over health care reform escalates on Capitol Hill and in the White House, first lady Michelle Obama told “Good Morning America” in an exclusive interview that “no system is going to be perfect” and “it’s not going to be easy.” . . .
Despite the contention over the merits of the plan and as how it would be funded, the first lady told “GMA” she thinks success is possible now because “more and more people are ready for this kind of reform.”
“The country has moved to another point in time,” she said. “It’s not going to be easy, but you have more people who are ready to try to figure it out. And hopefully that will ultimately make the difference this time around. “

Sorry, Mrs. Obama, but where did you get your medical degree? Where did you do your residency and internship? When and where did you open your first medical practice? Last time I checked, women with law degrees ain’t the ideal source for medical advice.
Sadly, this is exactly who will be providing you with medical care and deciding the level of care you get with Obamacare–lawyers and bureaucrats with no medical expertise. And don’t forget, Michelle Obama cut the level of healthcare when she was on the board of a hospital, the University of Chicago Medical Centers. She gave crummy healthcare to poor patients who were processed like mice at a medical mill, cutting them off from proper care. And that’s a preview of what she and her hubby will give you, while they continue to have the nation’s best doctors at their disposal.
Growing a garden only gives you a green thumb, not the combined mind of Van Nostrand and Gray. Her medical advice to eat organic food is hilarious, since organic food is not only not healthier, but it’s often more bug- and germ-ridden.
And any prescription she wants to write for Americans, you know where she and her husband can shove it.

The first lady acknowledged that her involvement in promoting nutrition, wellness and prevention “is to me one of the true keys of changing the health paradigm in this country.”

Barf. The woman grows a garden, and suddenly she’s our national nutritionista and health guru.

“Government can’t do it all,” she said.

Um, we already know. Tell it to your husband.

“My hope is that if I play a role in sort of ringing the bell of prevention and wellness and exercise.”

You can best do that by telling your husband to stuff it . . . his absurd, socialist medical plan.
Whatever happened to the good old days . . . when First Ladies knew their place and stuck to reading books to children and visiting libraries and hospitals?
That was a whole lot preferable to unelected spouses who don hijabs for the Islamic world (Mrs. Bush) and pimp socialized medicine (Mrs. Obama).
Memo to the chicks of the White House: You weren’t on the ballot. Stay out of policy and stick to the garden, china, and draperies.

Religion of (Peace and) Amputation Justice; But Hey They’d Win a “Democratic Election”, So Let’s Go “Green” for ‘Em

By Debbie Schlussel
Ah, the humane, tolerant, peaceful “Religion of Peace.” If only our courts were run this way . . . we’d be the world’s biggest amputee nation.

An Islamic court in Somalia that sentenced four men to have a hand and a leg cut off postponed the punishment Tuesday, saying the sweltering weather could cause them to bleed to death.

Thank Heaven for small favors.

The court sentenced the men Monday in the capital, Mogadishu, after accusing them of stealing mobile phones and guns. The court is run by al-Shabab, a powerful insurgent group that is trying to topple the U.N.-backed government and install a strict form of Islam.

islamiccrescent.jpg

“The sentence will be carried out later,” an al-Shabab official said, requesting anonymity because he was not allowed to speak publicly. “It was postponed because of the hot weather and fears that the victims will bleed to death.”

This is sharia. If you want to know why many of us lament this kind of barbaric “justice” coming to America (and it’s already here), that’s just a tiny taste of why.
But I guess I shouldn’t really comment on any of this, because, after all, I’m being judgmental, and who are we to question the lifestyles and choices of others. We must, instead, be tolerant of all, including the amputation practices of this religion, which go on not just in Somalia, but all over the Islamic world and Arab street. There’s a reason a certain public place in Saudi Arabia is called “Chop Chop Square.”
One other thing: If they had free elections in Somalia, today, Al Shabaab, the Al-Qaeda group that practices this Islamic barbarism would win the elections.
And a bunch of complete idiots throughout the West would don Islamic green for their “democracy.” Just like they’re doing with Iran, now.

Not Easy Being “Green”: Congrats! You’re Now Allies of Hezbo Jewish Center Bomber Rafsanjani & Gay “Reformist” Israel/US-Hater “Amir”

By Debbie Schlussel
Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, for the clueless (which means all of you groupthink fools supporting the faux-uprising of extremists), is the guy who is wanted by Argentina for masterminding the Hezbollah bombings of the Jewish community center (in 1994) and Israeli Embassy (in 1992) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At least 114 people were murdered. There is a warrant out for this former Iranian President’s arrest.
And, as I recently told you, Rafsanjani was the man sent by the Ayatollahs to Iraq to speed up Iraq’s status as a Shi’ite fundamentalist satellite state of Iran.

rafsanjani.gifhezbollah4.jpg

Rafsanjani: Hezbo Jewish Center Bombing Mastermind

& Your Partner in the Green “Revolution”
Given that, the involvement and brief arrests of Rafsanjani’s close relatives (including his daughter, Faezeh Hashemi) should be a giant clue–no, a steel two-by-four in the head–that the faux-uprising of extremists in Iran is not something with which we should be allying ourselves. It should be a huge reminder that siding with the Mousavi supporters–I guess I have to remind them yet again that their man founded Hezbollah and the Iranian nuclear development program and wants to destroy Israel as much as Ahmadinejad–that you are siding with extremists in a fight between extremists.
Rafsanjani’s family members were there with his blessing, and that should tell you something. You’re picking between AIDS and cancer. Either way, your silly–and, frankly, disgusting–green stuff on your websites and Twitter and Facebook icons are diseased and terminal.
Rafsanjani is Ahmadinejad’s arch-enemy. But the enemy of my enemy isn’t always my friend. In many cases, as with this phony uprising, he’s just my enemy. “Reformist” politician Hossein Marashi (whose wife, daughter, and sister-in-law were also briefly arrested after participating in the faux-democracy protests), a big Mousavi ally, is Rafsanjani’s brother-in-law. Yes, there are cockroaches on all sides of this fake election. And you’ve picked a cockroach just as repellent as the one currently in office, perhaps more so.
You are on the side of the Rafsanjanis, the Hezbollah bombers–murderers of over 100, whose only crime was being in a building associated with Jews. Last week, for you, when this happened at the Holocaust Museum, a person like this was cause for condemnation. Today, it’s cause for “solidarity” by the stupid.
And stop telling me that this is bigger than them, that this is some sort of revolution for democracy in Iran. Do you like “democracy” and free elections in Gaza? How ’bout if they had ’em in Egypt? The Muslim Brotherhood–parent to HAMAS and Al-Qaeda–would win. And when their votes weren’t “counted” or it was “rigged” by Abbas or Mubarak, you’d probably be that stupid and don the shade of green and whine over those extremists, too. Critical thinking be damned.
One of these days, a powerful western leader is going to side with you ignoramus sheeple. And they’re going to pressure Saudi Arabia to hold free elections. And ya know who’ll win? Bin Laden or his ilk. That’s what’s most popular there. But, hey, so what? I mean, it’s democracy, after all. And when they pull all of the Saudi investments out of our economy and hold back oil, your precious democracy and elections for barbarians will bite us with all of its barbarism.
It’ll be breathtaking. The Saudi King will pick one of his 50,000-plus princes and he’ll pick one of the Bin Laden types whose extremism is far more popular, and have elections. And when the Bin Laden guy is declared the loser, I can’t wait until you idiots put green all over the Net and ask, “Where is My Vote?” As if you are akin to the extremists that vote on either side in Iran. It’s just beyond absurdity that you apply Mid-Western American values to Mid-Eastern barbarians. And then call that a “democratic uprising.” We saw the democratic uprising in 1979. Wake the heck up.
You are the people siding with Amir, a gay Iranian student who lives in London with his boyfriend. The young students in the faux-uprising are no different from Amir, except that they are even more extreme. Two years ago, Amir sided with Ahmadinejad against the U.S. and Israel. Today, his demographic is siding with Moussavi . . . against the U.S. and Israel.

Amir is a gay Iranian who left the country five years ago and now lives with his boyfriend in London. (He uses a pseudonym because he still hasn’t told his family about his sexual orientation.) When Ahmadinejad claimed during a question-and-answer session at Columbia University last week that no gays lived in Iran, “[it] made me laugh,” says Amir. “Ahmadinejad is an ignorant and uncultured man who doesn’t know much about anything beyond the world of radical Muslims and Revolutionary Guards.” Yet Amir was incensed at the hectoring introduction from Columbia’s president, Lee Bollinger, during which he described his guest as “a petty and cruel dictator.” “He is still the elected president of my country,” Amir says. “Insulting him in front of the world is insulting all Iranians.” . . .
[I]f critics like Bollinger thought they were demonstrating solidarity with Iran’s long-suffering moderates, they were mistaken. “The Islamic Republic and its president have never been insulted in an official setting like this,” says Mohsen Armin, a prominent reformist politician. Dissident bloggers also came out in support of Ahmadinejad. Other opponents argue that he should have walked off the stage at Columbia in protest. Former president Mohammed Khatami agreed with Amir: “This is tantamount to insulting our nation,” he told the Iranian Students’ News Agency. . . .
Sitting under a large poster of Andy Warhol’s design for the Rolling Stones’ “Sticky Fingers” album cover, which shows the crotch of a man in tight jeans, Amir is as anti-American as Ahmadinejad’s bearded allies. “Listen, as a gay man living in Iran, I couldn’t express myself and be what I am. My brother went to jail for eight years because he opposed this regime. Two of my cousins were killed because they were communists. Despite all that, if one day America or Israel attack Iran, I’ll go back and defend my country. I’ll do that regardless of who is the president and how gay people are treated in Iran.

That’s the true voice of the Iranian “revolution”. Yup, your green is booger green.
They may wear Levi’s jeans and eat Baskin-Robbins. But they would kill Levi Strauss, Burton Baskin, and Irvine Robbins–all of ’em “evil Zionists”–in a heartbeat.
And in that vein, a new ice cream flavor for you: Moldy Green Faux-Revolutionary Crunch Ignorant Bliss. It has Hezbollah yellow chips in it.

Yesterday, reader Chris e-mailed me:

Michelle Malkin is telling everyone on Twitter to add a shade of green to their avatar for democracy in Iran.

michellemalkin: Show support for democracy in Iran add green overlay to your Twitter avatar with 1-click -http://helpiranelection.com/

Does anyone else notice that democracy with Muslims has been a total failure?

Yes, Chris. Those of us who actually know something about the Middle East noticed and have been warning about it for years.
But anyone who followed her mindless tweet is as clueless on this as she is. And wantonly oblivious to the fact that you’re simply donning Islamic green and signifying your alliance with Islam, HAMAS, Hezbollah, the Saudi flag, etc.
You don’t have to be the Mossad leadership to agree with me. You just have to think.
Unfortunately, people in the West don’t think. They mostly just blindly follow. Most people are lazy. They don’t like to connect the dots. It’s too much “work” for them.

Yes, You Can Buy Justice in America . . . If You’re a Rich Actress

By Debbie Schlussel
While this isn’t nearly as disgusting as NFL gazillionaire Donte Stallworth doing only 30 days in prison after killing a man, it’s nauseating enough.
Recently, movie star/actress Jessica Alba vandalized a United Way billboard in Oklahoma City, posting flyers about saving the great white sharks. ‘Cuz as we all know, Oklahoma is surrounded by miles of ocean coastline where sharks are endangered by evil humans taking a swim (and who deserve their limbs to be bitten off for doing so). When I think great white sharks and ocean, I think Oklahoma City. Don’t you?

jessicaalbavandal.jpg

Jessica Alba: Yes, You Can . . . Get Away w/ Vandalism if You’re Rich
Alba took photos of herself smiling and proudly posing in front of her vandalism, which she posted online. Now, if that were you or me, we’d be prosecuted. And we wouldn’t be offered a deal because the prosecutors had all the evidence they needed what with the pics we posted proudly posing with our “work.”
But, if you’re rich enough in America, you can buy the victim off and get them to not press charges or argue for leniency. The United Way declined to press charges . . . after Alba donated a sizable sum to the group.
For the record, this is another one of those instances where I wish “a pox on both their houses.” United Way donates millions of dollars to Muslim-dominated agencies including Dearbornistan’s ACCESS–the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services, which helps Muslim illegal aliens enter and stay in America, funded commercial driving lessons for Al-Qaeda terrorists, and has helped thousands of Muslim pregnant aliens have their kids here in America, courtesy of Medicaid, because ACCESS gave them phony social security numbers. When you give to United Way, that’s where some of your money goes.
And that’s aside from the pressure tactics United Way uses at most big employers’ offices across America.
Neither Alba nor United way will say how much she gave. But it’s just more evidence that, yes, you can buy justice in America.
No wonder Alba supported the “Yes, You Can” candidate.
One other thing: A brief refresher on Alba–during the height of the Iraq invasion, Alba whined that her uncle joined the U.S. Army to get a free trip to Italy and got shipped to Iraq instead. Yup, the U.S. military . . . your cruise package to the Mediterranean. And I thought they were around to protect American interests as our fighting force. Who knew?
Nice house. No one’s home. But the bank account is bulging.

New York Times Supresses News For Its Safety, Not For Yours

By Debbie Schlussel
Whenever the New York Times has a scoop that, if published, will jeopardize America’s national security and the safety and lives of countless Americans, it errs on the side of . . . spilling the beans. Then, the “newspaper of record” spews some boilerplate about “the public’s right to know,” “informing public debate,” blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, yadda.
But, when it comes to the safety of one of its own–a New York Times reporter–well, then, mum’s the word.
That’s the case with New York Times reporter David Rohde, who was captured by the Taliban and held in captivity for seven months (and escaped to freedom on Saturday). The paper was completely silent on the story. No “public’s right to know.” No “informed debate.” No “full information.” None of the usual excuses.
Nope.

newyorktimes.jpg

hypocrisy3.jpg

Instead New York Times Executive Editor Bill Keller says that the paper had to put the safety of its reporter above all of those usual “interests” about which the Times always pontificates and lectures to us. That, and the fact that the stingy, money-losing NYTimes didn’t want to pay the $25 million ransom the Taliban was asking, another big news story we didn’t hear about because the Times chose to keep it under the lid for the same hypocritical reasons that it put the kabosh on the entire story.
Even more telling is that the New York Times’ buddies at Al-Jazeera, the Terrorist News Network, agreed to the New York Times’ request to also keep silent on Rohde. That should confirm what we already know about the NYTimes–that if even Al-Jazeera is willing to protect the safety of Times reporters and take orders from the New York Times, they have the same interests. Not American interests. Al-Jazeera only protects those it sees as allies of Al-Jazeera’s pan-terrorist interests.

Deciding not to report initially on reporter David Rohde’s capture by the Taliban for seven months was “an agonizing position that we revisited over and over again,” New York Times executive editor Bill Keller said Sunday.

Hmmm . . . if only the paper “agonized” like this on stories about the government tapping dangerous Islamic terrorists telephone calls from abroad, looking into their bank accounts, photos of trumped up “abuse” at Abu Ghraib, and other things that would protect 300 million Americans, not just one elitist snob whose American passport is merely a document, not any allegiance to country. The government asked the NYTimes not to print these stories, but unlike Al-Jazeera and AP (when the NYTimes asked them), the Times couldn’t care less about the safety and lives of those who don’t work for the Times.

“All along, we were told by people that probably the wisest course for David’s safety was to keep it quiet,” Keller said in an interview on CNN.

All along, the U.S. government told the New York Tiems that it was the wisest course for America’s safety to keep national security programs quiet. But the paper didn’t take the same course in those cases. And are we better for it? Not exactly.

The Times reported Saturday that Rohde escaped from seven months in captivity in Afghanistan and Pakistan by climbing over a wall on Friday.

Ah, now that the story is over, suddenly the New York Times “reports.”
Rohde was abducted Nov. 10 along with an Afghan reporter and a driver south of the Afghan capital of Kabul. The Times kept the kidnapping quiet out of concern for the men’s safety, and other media outlets, including The Associated Press, followed suit at the Times’ request.
They all band together for select members of their elitist group. But when it comes to the safety of the rest of us–the little people–well, who gives a darn?

“It was an agonizing position that we revisited over and over again,” Keller said in the CNN interview with Washington Post media critic Howard Kurtz. “But I also have a responsibility for the people who work for me. I send a lot of people out into dangerous places and their security is also part of my job.”

Yup, but no responsibility for the people who are your neighbors, your customers, your readers, and your fellow countrymen. Our security not part of your concern.

Keller told Kurtz he worried at different points that the story would be leaked, such as in May when Rohde was part of the team that won a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Keller said Arab satellite TV station Al-Jazeera was planning a story on Rohde but agreed to hold it at the Times’ request.

Like I said, birds of a feather . . . .
New York Times . . . Safety and Security for Me, But Not For Thee.

The Real National Security: Strong & Present Fathers; Every Day Should Be Father’s Day in America

By Debbie Schlussel
Today is the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Father’s Day.
As longtime readers know, my father was the single most important influence on my life. Today is not only Father’s Day, but it would be his 72nd birthday. (Read my Father’s Day tribute to my dad from last year.)
In my view, fathers are far more important in children’s lives than any other figure, even mothers. For young boys, they serve to teach them how to be a man. Not just by words, but–far more key–by their actions, their conduct, their behavior. The ideal father teaches his son how to be a good citizen and patriot, how to be moral and decent and care about others who are less fortunate, the importance of hard work, of good ethics, of how to treat women, and how to act with dignity and respect for authority and fellow beings.

dadandme.jpg

meanddad2.jpg

Me and My Dad
For young girls, fathers serve to teach daughters how they should be treated by a man, how he should behave toward them. And, for daughters, fathers are often far more influential in teaching the same lessons on citizenship, behavior, and decency than any other influence in their lives.
My own father taught me all of these things and to have the courage of my convictions. That principle is far more expensive than anything else. And far more important. That family and love for your children reign supreme along with allegiance to G-d and country.
But far too many kids in America never learn these things because they’ve never had a father in their lives. And the problem in America is growing. It’s no coincidence that the decline of America is concurrent with the decline of fathers and men in America.
In Wisconsin, where the problem of matriarchal families lacking fathers is representative of that in other states, Democrat Gov. Jim Doyle has declared June “Fathers Make a Difference Month.”
That’s because, according to Doyle, one in every four children in Wisconsin grows up in a single-parent household and 21 percent of children are raised by single mothers.

Doyle says fathers are especially important to children under 3. Those kids learn and develop primarily through play and fathers spend more time engaging their children in play than any other adults in a child’s life.

In other states and the District of Columbia, the numbers of kids growing up without a father is astronomical. In many urban areas, upwards of 80% of kids have no father.
And as I’ve noted previously on this site, with 40% of American babies now born to single mothers, America is unique from other nations in that these single mother households have no father figure whatsoever. As I’ve also noted on this site, these single mothers are the irresponsible morons who take their kids to see graphically violent and sexually explicit movies, like “Friday The 13th.” They simply don’t care about their kids the way a father does.
In divorced families, in States like Michigan, fathers get full custody of their children only 7% of the time, whereas mothers get it over 70% of the time, a figure frequently cited by my friend, family law attorney and father’s rights activist Dennis Vatsis.
That’s not a good thing for America’s kids, and definitely a factor in why we are turning out wimpish, sensitive, slacker boys (and Obama voters), not strong, hard-working, achieving men.
Again, as regular readers know, on this site, every single day is Father’s Day, as it should be–but isn’t–in America.
Unlike the media and pop culture (which constantly mocks and denigrates fathers and men), I always recognize the importance of fathers and strong men in the lives of America’s kids and America, in general. It’s not something I note here 1/365th of the time.
Nor should that be the frequency that you recognize it. Strong fathers as heads of nuclear households are dying out, as a result of media, pop culture, and other societal influences.
And, again, along with that, our country is dying, too. Mr. Moms don’t make a great country. You cannot have a strong society that functions as a matriarchy. There have been no great, long-term matriarchies in history. And there won’t be. Wonder Woman is a figment of comic books and pop culture only.
So, if you are lucky enough to have a father in your life, I hope you appreciate him and the lessons he taught you. If you had a father in your life, his influence on you is everlasting, and there is no substitute.
And your recognition and appreciation of this should be a daily thing, not something restricted for today–a day that always pales in comparison for the homage we collectively pay on Mother’s Day.
To those of you who are fathers and grandfathers, Happy Father’s Day. And to my own Dad, Happy Father’s Day and Birthday to you. I miss and think of you every single day.
A nation of good father’s is the real national security that we are losing on a regular basis. Secure borders and freedom from Islamic terrorism won’t change that.
But the lack of strong, active fathers in America’s children’s lives only enhances and contributes to those problems from within.

What I’m Listening To

By Debbie Schlussel
My friends, the very talented Larry Chaney and Craig Shields, are, respectively, the guitarist and sax player for singer Edwin McCain. Edwin, a phenomenal singer (his voice is amazing) and also a friend (he and I met and became friends when we were on ABC’s “Politically Incorrect” together in 1999), had several hits played on teen shows on the WB in the late ’90s and early ’00s. His songs, “I’ll Be,” and “I Could Not Ask for More,” on which both Larry and Craig play were big hits and are wedding and supermarket playlist standards (and frequent audition songs on “American Idol”).
Now, Larry (a brilliant libertarian with some conservative leanings) and Craig, have a great new CD, “Dois Gemeos,” which is perfect for the warm weather and making you feel like you’re on an island paradise. Here’s the first song, “Voce e Minha Luz.” I love the fantastic “Visions,” which is sung by a mysterious, terrific singer. Check it out and listen to a sampling of all the songs on the album here.

Weekend Box Office: ICE Snubbed in Silly Marriage Fraud “Proposal”; Creepy But Sweet “Management”; UPDATED: Skip “Year One”

By Debbie Schlussel
**** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE– “Year One” Review Added ****
* “The Proposal“: While tiny bits of the storyline of this schlocky romantic comedy (that’s a nice euphemism for “dopey chick flick”) resemble the far more charming “Green Card,” this movie is mostly groan fodder. And it’s entirely predictable and formulaic. Plus, I don’t go for the “cougar” dynamic here (45-year-old Sandra Bullock in great shape through a cheesecloth lense with much younger Ryan Reynolds). If we wanted women to act like men, they’d be men.

theproposal.jpgmanagement.jpg
The story: An older complete bitch of a boss at a publishing company (Sandra Bullock) learns will be deported to Canada and lose her job as a top editor/executive. So, she demands that her assistant, Ryan Reynolds, to marry her and commit marriage fraud. He agrees after exacting a promotion from her. To make it look real, he takes her to Alaska for his grandmother’s (Betty White–the Jump the Shark Ted McGinley of movies, meaning if she’s in it, it’s a sign: it sucks) 90th birthday.
While I laughed more than a few times, most of the jokes in this were stupid . . . unless you consider scenes of an out-of-shape Hispanic guy stripper in a thong funny (and I don’t). Still, this is more trumped up melodrama than comedy. There are lots of–way too much–faux-tears and silly, unctious fights between family members.
And, as you’d predict, they fall in love. Shocker.
When this film was shot, there were lots of scenes filmed with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) uniformed police and agents, but all of that has ended up on the cutting room floor. ICE was snubbed in this film, and the agents should be happy.
BTW, if only real life U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services adjudicators were as determined to weed out marriage fraud as the one in this movie. Sadly, it’s not even close in the real world. And ICE rarely investigates or prosecutes the ones who are determined to be marriage fraud perpetrators.
Wanna see a film about real-life marriage fraud? Start filming in Dearbornistan.
As chick flicks go, this could have been far worse. But it also could have been far better. Great for the Oprah crowd, but for the rest of us . . .
HALF A REAGAN
halfreagan.jpg
* “Management“: At first, I found this movie extremely weird and very creepy. But it grew better as it progressed.
A de-glammed Jennifer Aniston plays a traveling saleswoman, whose company sells mass-produced art to motels and offices. While staying at a motel out West, the son of the motel owners (Steven Zahn) develops a crush on her. But she sleeps with him, and then he starts stalking her . . . all over the country. Like I said, it’s creepy.
Eventually, though, Aniston–tied up with her ex-punk rocker, organic yogurt mogul boyfriend–falls in love with Zahn, an aimless motel employee with no future.
But life is complicated and circumstances–economic circumstances and plans for the future–get in the way. Or do they?
The most annoying part of this movie is the lefty crap that’s thrown in. Aniston’s character is “one of those,” making a fuss with the small-town motel owners that they don’t have a recycling center, etc.
Still, I found this comedy funny, entertaining, and, eventually, charming, if waaaaaay creepy.
Steve Zahn is the star of this vehicle, not Aniston. And it’s a chick flick you guys will enjoy. It’s well done, if a little long and drawn out (even at only just over 1.5 hours).
TWO-AND-A-HALF REAGANS
reagancowboy.jpgreagancowboy.jpghalfreagan.jpg

yearone.jpg
*** UPDATE: “Year One“: Absolutely awful. This movie was so bad, I walked out after a half-hour. I simply couldn’t take the stupidity and inanity anymore. It just wasn’t funny. And it was like a three year old made it. Extremely stupid.
Jack Black and Michael Cera play cave men at the beginning of man. They are kicked out of their village because Jack Black accidentally sets their village on fire.
Sound exciting to you? Me neither. I should have walked out well before Black eats dung and tells us it tastes like the producer of it ate apples. This is funny?
Skip at all cost. I lost $10 on this. Save yours and two valuable hours of life not worth wasting on this exercise in moronism.

Happy Juneteenth

By Debbie Schlussel
Today is Juneteenth–an important day in U.S. history. But, sadly, it’s mostly only noted and celebrated in Black America. It’s also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day.
On June 19, 1865, Army Gen. Gordon Granger announced the Emancipation Proclamation to slaves in Galveston, Texas. In truth, President Abraham Lincoln had already declared all slaves free, two and a half years earlier. But the celebration takes place on June 19th because many Texas slaves were not freed until the Granger declaration.

The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and free laborer.

In many circles around America, some activists have used Juneteenth to attack America and cry racism yet again, asserting that Blacks don’t have equality. But not only isn’t that true, we have a number of programs that give Blacks and other minorities preferences. Yet, some prefer to wear that chip on their shoulder, and it’s as if they wish there still was slavery in America, as it would enhance the Sharptons and Farrakhans and Jacksons and Wrights.
Yes, there will always be racism in some corners, but Blacks have advanced significantly in America over the last near-century and a half since they were freed from slavery, including to the Presidency. If you ignore that, you’ve missed the picture. If you look for racism, you will always find it.
Instead, today is a cause for celebration because, even though this nation was very young at the time, we did free slaves and end slavery. And while that was almost 150 years ago, in many countries around the world–particularly Muslim countries, which lead the world in human trafficking–slavery remains alive and well. And many of the slaves there are Black.
So, today, I celebrate Juneteenth for the incredible things, the incredible opportunities that America gave Blacks, beginning with freeing them from slavery.
Above all, Juneteenth is about freedom, which we all enjoy as Americans, regardless of our skin complexion.
Happy Juneteenth, America.
