Will the Academy Awards ever stop sympathizing with Islamic terrorists?
Given recent history–and one of its chosen nominees for Sunday’s Oscars show–that’s doubtful.
This year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominated “West Bank Story” for Best Live Action Short Film.
A take-off on the movie musical classic, “West Side Story,” “West Bank Story” reduces unprovoked Islamic terrorism against innocent, mostly Jewish civilians to a Jets versus Sharks feud, solved with dancing, singing, and hummus. If only it were that simple.

But it isn’t. In “West Bank Story,” the entire conflict is a matter of feuding kosher and Palestinian falafel restaurants. The entire conflict is solved after 20 minutes of musical numbers and hummus-eating. Apparently, filmmaker Ari Sandel hasn’t been paying attention to what really goes on in falafel shops–and behind Israel’s green line, not just the West Bank.
Last year, on Mother’s Day, American teenager died from massive internal injuries he suffered while eating at Mayor’s Falafel restaurant in Tel Aviv. He and his father, Tuly Wultz, were having lunch during a Passover visit to Israel. A Miami Heat fan, he dreamed of becoming a rabbi. But there was no singing, dancing falafel musical for him.
Instead of a Natalie Wood-Richard Beymer-style duet, the Wultzes were severely injured after Palestinian Sami Salim Ahmed entered the restaurant, pretending to be a falafel customer. He detonated a homicide bomb.
It was father and son Wultz’s last meal together. After losing massive amounts of blood, suffering severe internal injuries, losing a kidney, his spleen, and a leg, the pain was too great, and Danny Wultz died at age 16.
, a dirt-poor, working-class Israeli auto mechanic, met the same fate. A Sephardic Jew, the Anidzar family fled the Arab Muslim and its rampant anti-Semitism. But he could not escape it.
Married just two weeks, Anidzar went to a nearby store to take his new wife out to lunch. She was not hungry, so he went by himself to Mayor’s Falafel for some falafel and shawarmeh. It was also his last meal. He was murdered at age 26.
The undue early deaths of Daniel Wultz and Lior Anidzar, both Jews, at the hands of Palestinian homicide bomber are illustrative of what’s really happening in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. And what, far too often, is happening at falafel joints and bars and pizza shops throughout Israel.
It’s not a moral equivalency musical, where both sides are equal.
That this 20-minute movie boils it down to both sides fighting for control of the falafel industry is not just silly, callous, and obtuse, it’s worse–an abomination of the many living and dead who were maimed, many fatally, by the actions of these joyous people shown dancing over falafel. This isn’t a petty feud over ground chick-peas fried into balls. It’s over the right of the Jewish people to live in peace and freedom versus the avowed Islamic goal of annihilating them from the entire State of Israel.
The politics of “West Bank Story’s” Director and Co-writer, Ari Sandel, are illuminating. He is involved with several far-left organizations with an admitted agenda in the Middle East. That includes “Peace Now,” at whose events Sandel promoted his movie. Peace Now is a far-left group of Israelis that advocates giving the entire West Bank and half of Jerusalem to the Palestinians. It has repeatedly advanced discredited claims of Palestinian ownership of land in the West Bank and Jerusalem. Sandel recognizes a Palestinian state and has traveled to Dubai, where Israeli citizens are not allowed entry due to the Arab Boycott.
I interviewed Ari Sandel, earlier this week and was shocked by his incredible obtuseness and ignorance. Ditto for his views.
He said he refuses to take a position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and would not condemn Palestinian homicide bombings as evil on their own. He insisted that the Israelis were equally evil in killing Palestinians. I asked him if there’s a difference between Palestinians who deliberately blow up innocent civilians in a pizza shop and Israeli soldiers who accidentally hit civilians when they are trying to target terrorists and save lives. He refused to respond.
Sandel, whose father is an Israeli, told me how proud he and his father were to travel to Dubai, despite its observance of the Arab Boycott of Israel and its state-funded sponsorship of anti-Semitic speakers and conspiracy theorists. He told me that he was proud to have his movie at a movie festival full of anti-Israel movies. I asked him why he didn’t show a movie that’s pro-Israel. He said he is on no-one’s side, only on the side of “hope and peace.” I asked him how we can achieve hope and peace while he glosses over deliberate mass murders of cafe patrons. He refused to answer.
I asked Sandel if he would be opposed to showing a movie with the Nazis and their death camp victims as laughing, singing moral equals in a musical. He said, “Well, ‘Life is Beautiful’ won an Academy Award.” When I pointed out that “Life is Beautiful” was against the Nazis and was not a moral equivalency film, he tried to change the subject. I asked him if Jews and the Nazis are equal. No response.
Sandel’s politics are in line with the apparent thoughts of the Academy.
Last year, “Paradise Now,” a movie that sympathizes with Palestinian homicide bombers was among the Academy Award nominees. Fortunately, the Oscar didn’t go to that movie.
But in previous years, the Oscars have been the scene for virulent anti-Israel sentiment. In 1978, when Vanessa Redgrave accepted her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, she attacked Israel and “Zionist hoodlums.” I asked Sandel what he though of Redgrave’s speech. He said, “I have no idea what your talking about. I’ve never heard about that.” When I tried to tell him about it, he told me he’s very busy and has too many more important things to do.
Yes, more important things . . . like portraying innocents like Daniel Wultz and Lior Anidzar–blown up while eating falafel–as singing, dancing equals to their murderer.
Gee, Officer Krupke, give me a break.

Well, now we know why Bill O’Reilly was so eager to get on Oprah–and so eager to (when she’s the queen of progressivism). That was back in October.
Today, O’Reilly is on Oprah, yet again–this time being hailed by HRHSBotU (Her Royal Highness Supreme Being of the Universe) Oprah as the king crusader against child molestation. You see, O’Reilly desperately wants credibility with the airheaded, liberal women who watch Oprah. They are a far bigger base to which to sell books, etc. than his own much smaller FOX News base.
Anatomy of a sell-out. Not that he ever was a real conservative in the first place. He wasn’t. He sold out whatever he was before to appeal to FOX News’ audience. And now–with a yearning to “grow” his audience–he’s selling them out for HRHSBotU and her audience.
That’s showbiz. But it sure ain’t principle.

Remember , that America’s Islamist enemies within would applaud a new Homeland Security complaint bureaucracy, “TRIP”? Well, like Cassandra, the Greek goddess, I was right–but no-one listened until it was too late.
The Islamist-dominated, terrrist-supporter ADC (the deceptively named American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee) is applauding DHS’s new TRIP–Traveler Redress Inquiry Program.
TRIP is ostensibly a complaint system for those who believe they’re mistakenly on the no-fly list, but it’s actually a system for anyone to file a complaint against Homeland Security agents. And it’s a whole new bureaucracy designed for terrorists, terrorism supporters, illegal aliens, criminals, and assorted other malefactor whiners to attack federal agents throughout Homeland Security for doing their jobs.

If you are one of the many Homeland Security agents and employees who read this site, this new, unnecessary scrutiny should concern you. If you think that OPR (the Office of Professional Responsibility) and OIG (the Office of the Inspector General) are bad enough, get ready for TRIP. In the case of TRIP, federal agents will have to prove they did the right thing by doing their job (if it had anything to do with the no fly list, terror watch list, or other such databases), as the bureaucrats will be working to please their whining new constituency. And you, the American taxpayer, are paying for this absurd new apparatus.
Thank Michael Chertoff a/k/a Mr. Burns and his pan-Islamist advisor, Daniel Sutherland for this giant boondoggle and rectal exam of every move by federal agents who are trying to do their jobs as Air Marshals, ICE agents, Customs and Border Protection inspectors, etc. And by the way, federal agents, where was FLEOA, the organization to which you pay dues to protect your interests? Nowhere to be found on this one. Par for the course.

WASHINGTON–The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced today the launch of the DHS Traveler Redress Inquiry Program (DHS TRIP). Travelers can now seek redress and resolve possible watch list misidentification issues with any of the department’s component agencies at an easy to use and easy to access online location at https://dhs.gov/trip.
“We’re making travel more efficient and secure by offering a convenient redress process,” said Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. “This is a win-win program. Eliminating false-positives makes the travel experience more pleasant for legitimate visitors, and it frees up our front-line personnel to apply even greater scrutiny of those individuals who truly present safety and security risks.”
DHS TRIP provides a way for legitimate travelers to address situations where individuals believe they have been incorrectly delayed, denied boarding, identified for additional screening, or have otherwise experienced difficulties when seeking entry into the country. The program also facilitates redress information sharing among the department’s component agencies and creates internal performance measures to monitor progress.
DHS TRIP enables travelers to outline their concerns in a single request via a secure Web site. The information received will be shared with applicable DHS component agencies, such as the Transportation Security Administration and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as well as with the Department of State and when appropriate with airport and airline operators. Information will be shared in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 (5 U.S.C. § 552a), and as established in the Privacy Impact Assessment published for DHS TRIP.
In addition to offering DHS TRIP, the department has taken a number of other steps to make the screening process more efficient and secure, to include the recent completion of a name-by-name review of the No-Fly list to ensure that only individuals currently posing a threat are included.

This one is not a political issue. It’s a consumer issue.
If you’re like me and love to eat fish (Salmon is my favorite–especially the rare Copper River Salmon, only available two weeks out of the year), you’ll be disturbed to find out that several restaurants in Florida are engaging in “fish fraud.”
Undercover agents for the Florida Attorney General’s office found that a number of restaurants were subsituting undesirable species of fish for Grouper and Red Snapper in what they served to restaurant patrons. 17 of 24 restaurants in the Madeira Beach area did not serve what they claimed was Grouper.
According to The Washington Post, DNA analysis showed that what patrons were told was grouper was actually Asian Catfish, Emperor, Painted Sweetlips (huh?), and even types of fish that could not be identified. Yuck!

And the problem is nationwide:

“This problem is rampant across America,” said Mark Kinsey, a special agent for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration who enforces marine resource laws. “And it isn’t just grouper.”
Much of the reason for the questionable grouper, red snapper and other fish stems from a simple matter of supply and demand, regulators and industry officials say.
With the popularity of grouper rising nationwide and the domestic catch at times limited by federal guidelines, restaurateurs have relied on imports to fill the gap.
The quality of those imports has proved harder to control, even as the lower prices — often a small fraction of domestic prices — have made the imports irresistible.
In many instances, not only is the “grouper” in fact farm-raised Asian catfish from Vietnam or other species that swim with grouper, but the filets have shown signs of salmonella and traces of illegal carcinogenic fungicides, NOAA law enforcement officials said.
In December, a Panama City businessman pleaded guilty to marketing more than a million pounds of Asian catfish as grouper, a remarkable volume considering that the domestic annual catch is about 10 million pounds. Yet law enforcement officers said they think larger cases are out there. . . .
In August, the St. Petersburg Times reported that at six of 11 area restaurants sampled, the “grouper” was actually something else, according to DNA tests. One restaurant was charging $23 for “champagne braised black grouper” but was instead serving tilapia.
A television station in Fort Myers and the Daytona Beach News-Journal followed with similar findings.
“People who don’t know us are asking, ‘Is that really grouper?’ ” said Stephanie Berry, a manager at Dockside Dave’s St. Pete Beach, which many locals say serves the best grouper sandwich.
The texture and taste of real grouper are much different from those of the Asian catfish, which is its most common substitute. Grouper costs more because it tastes better. Moreover, Asian catfish filets are often thin and small; those of grouper, a much larger fish, are larger and thicker.

In my case, it’s even more of a concern because while Grouper is kosher, Catfish is not. (Fish are kosher if, when they were alive, they had both fins and scales–which is why shellfish and swordfish, for example are not kosher.) This rip-off can happen even at a kosher restaurant, where they don’t always know what their fishmonger is selling them.
More evidence that you don’t always get what you ordered.
**** UPDATE: A federal agent writes that fish identity fraud is even worse than diagnosed in the Washington Post piece referenced above:

I was a successful restaurant manager before ruining my life by joining INS. Fishswapping was an everyday reality in the business. BTW-there is no such thing as Chilean Sea bass. It is actually Patagonian Toothfish, but that doesn’t sound as appetizing, does it? This is not news to me though. I never eat fish at restaurants.

There were two important passings of note, last week.
Maurice Papon, a former French cabinet minister who helped the Nazis perpetrate the Holocaust, died at 96 on Saturday.
Unfortunately, for his complicity in deporting 1,690 Jews from France to their torturous deaths in the Nazi concentration camps, he barely did any time. Although he was the highest-ranking Frenchman convicted for crimes against humanity. Though Papon played a starring role in the Nazi Vichy regime, he was only found guilty in 1998 and sentenced to only 10 years in prison.

He fled France to avoid prison, and when he finally went to prison, he was released in 2002 becaue of “poor health.” He was allowed to live out his final 4 years and most of his life before in peace and tranquility, unlike the suffering and murder he put 1,690 of his fellow Frenchman through, merely because they were Jews.
Then, there is Robert Adler, a Jew who was born and raised in Austria. He was fortunate enough to leave Europe for a job in the U.S. working for Zenith. He co-invented the Zenith Space Command in 1956. Today, we know it as the remote control.
Attention, Muslims: yet another invention you constantly use, invented by an “evil Zionist.”
Adler also contributed tremendously to our war efforts in World War II. From The Money Times:

Adler, during World War II, worked on high-frequency oscillators and electromechanical filters in aircraft radios. He is known for his work in surface acoustic wave technology used in color televisions and touch screens. During his lifetime, Adler was granted 180 patents for electronic devices.

During World War II, Adler specialized in military communications equipment. He later helped develop sensitive amplifiers for ultra high frequency signals used by radio astronomers and by the U.S. Air Force for long-range missile detection.

Incredibly, Adler was attacked for inventing the remote, but I like his response:

He downplayed his role when asked if he felt his invention helped raise a new generation of couch potatoes.
“People ask me all the time ‘Don’t you feel guilty for it?’ And I say that’s ridiculous,” he said. “It seems reasonable and rational to control the TV from where you normally sit and watch television.”

A father killed his wife and four daughters in their sleep because he could not bear them adopting a more westernised lifestyle, an inquest heard yesterday.
Mohammed Riaz, 49, found it abhorrent that his eldest daughter wanted to be a fashion designer, and that she and her sisters were likely to reject the Muslim tradition of arranged marriages.
On Hallowe’en last year he sprayed petrol throughout their terraced home in Accrington, Lancs, and set it alight.
Caneze Riaz, 39, woke and tried to protect her three-year-old child, Hannah, who was sleeping with her, but was overcome by fumes. Her other daughters, Sayrah, 16, Sophia, 13, and Alisha, 10, died elsewhere in the house.
Riaz, who had spent the evening drinking, set himself on fire and died two days later. . . .
Riaz, who had spent all but the last 17 years of his life in the North West Frontier region of Pakistan, met his Anglo-Pakistani wife when her father sent her to the sub-continent to find a husband.
After an arranged marriage, she developed a career as a community leader in Accrington while he, handicapped by a lack of English, took on a series of low-paid jobs.
After Mrs Riaz’s father died she “suddenly felt less beholden to Mohammed”, a friend said. “She started to develop her own circle of friends and allowed the girls to express themselves in a more western way.”
She began to work with women who felt suppressed by Asian culture and many saw her as a role model for young Asian women.

Many parties who are like-minded are cheering yesterday’s Federal Appeals Court ruling denying Guantanamo Bay detainees the right to challenge their imprisonment at Gitmo in U.S. courts. The decision came down in the combined cases of Al Odah v. USA and Boumediene v. Bush.
My cheering is far more subdued–and not just because I’m concerned the U.S. Supreme Court will reverse the decision written by Judge A. Raymond Randolph. More important is the part of the decision glossed over by most reports, but for The Washington Post.
The Post was the only paper that noted the area of my concern. Yesterday’s decision held that Guantanamo Bay fall under Cuban sovereignty. And that’s not a good thing, because if yesterday’s decision is upheld, you know where the Gitmo terrorists’ lawyers are headed next: Cuban courts.

Do we want Cuban courts to be able to review American military tribunals’ rulings? No. And that should have been explicitly ruled out in yesterday’s decision, which apparently it wasn’t. Though, the decision does say that military panels are authorized to review the detentions. Hopefully, that stays any appeals to Cuban authorities. But don’t hold your breath.
Not a good thing.
Also not good, but stupid more than anything, were far-left Senator Patrick Leahy’s comments about the court ruling. He told AP that he’s concerned that this will strip the rights of 12 million lawful permanent residents in the U.S. Huh? It won’t. The Gitmo detainees are not “lawful permanent residents in the U.S.” They’re in Gitmo, and they’re prisoners, not persons with greencards.
Not that it would be such a tragedy if we took away the rights of many of the 12 million lawful permanent residents, who are not really necessarily lawful, since we know many of them got their greencards under false pretenses or rubber-stamped applications for citizenship.

Associated Press reports that Mexico is doing a full court press–“aggressive lobbying”–to try to get Congress to pass immigration amnesty for illegal aliens.
The country has hired lobbyists and is going the distance in trying to push your Congressman and Senators to support amnesty for illegals.
Although Congress recently passed laws prohibiting Jack Abramoff-style lunches, trips abroad, and other goodies, there’s a giant loophole around it. The New York Times recently reported that Congressmen–like are now having lobbyists pay thousands into their campaign funds and Political Action Committees–for the same Abramoff-style goodies. Issa got lobbyists to pay at least $1,000 a pop to “accompany” him to a “The Who” concert.

Being Paid Off By Mexican Amnesty Lobbyists?
So, the question is, how much are your Congressman and Senators getting from Mexico’s lobbyists? You may want to closely pore over his/her campaign committee and PAC to find out. But it won’t be easy because one needs to know who Mexico’s lobbyists are in order to find out where they are giving. We will need to find out who is registered as a foreign agent–as required by law–for Mexico.
It will also be interesting to see which lobbyists Mexico hires for these efforts. Money launderer, pan-Islamist, and all-around BS artist has repeatedly pushed the open borders crap. Since he’s known to always be for sale, don’t count this man–who should be behind bars for (because he’s best buddies with Karl Rove he gets protected from federal prosecution)–out of the lobbying for the sell-out of America and its borders.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already on the take. He needs to keep his Palestinian Muslim wife-beard–oops, I mean he has a beard and is married to a Palestinian Muslim wife (for whom he secured a cush Bush Admin job)–in Prada.
And just how much is Mexico willing to spend to throw more of its illegal aliens onto the backs of U.S. taxpayers? We don’t know yet. But keep watching those reports. A good source is Open Secrets, which tracks full info on donors to campaigns and PACS and the candidate and PAC recipients.

Determined to secure a migration accord, Mexico plans to begin an aggressive lobbying effort similar to its push to join the North American Free Trade Agreement, the country’s new ambassador to the United States said Tuesday.
Mexican consulates in the United States will be on the front lines of the effort, and will talk with state and federal lawmakers, business chambers, civic organizations and “all actors of U.S. society” who support a comprehensive immigration reform, Arturo Sarukhan said.
“There are few matters so important to the future of this country,” Sarukhan told reporters in Mexico City before departing for Washington.
The ambassador said Mexico has a brief window before campaigning begins in for the 2008 U.S. presidential election to convince Washington to approve immigration reforms.
“We are going to put into place the same kind of diplomatic and lobbying effort that we did in the early 1990s when NAFTA was being decided,” said Sarukhan, who was consul general in New York during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and a campaign adviser to Calderon.
Mexico wants Washington to usher through reforms to create a guest worker program, provide a legal path for millions of Mexicans living in the United States and allow for the reunification of families split by immigration laws.

That’s Bobby Knight’s position. And for a very long time, too. It’s simply an anti-free market–and anti-taxpayer–rule, made to help billionaires and colleges get along . . . and take you for an expensive ride.

AP quotes Knight:

Because now you can have a kid come to school for a year and play basketball and he doesn’t even have to go to class. He certainly doesn’t have to go to class the second semester. I’m not exactly positive about the first semester. But he would not have to attend a single class the second semester to play through the whole second semester of basketball.

Give your daughter a doll that looks like a ho, and there’s a good chance she’ll act like one. Duh.
But at least now the American Psychological Association agrees. It issued a report that, among other things, points the finger at the Bratz dolls for the increasing sluttiness among American girls at younger and younger ages.
I don’t agree with a great deal of the report that seems to attack boys and men and support too much feminism (surprise!–the APA is very liberal). But, still, researchers from the APA found that images of Bratz dolls–on TV, in the movies, in song lyrics and all over the media–may make girls think of and treat their own bodies as sexual objects. While the study concerns teens, tweens, and pre-schoolers, one of the members of the panel who put together the report says the results would apply to even younger girls:

“It’s fair to say, were we to do these same studies on younger girls, you would expect to find the same results, but we have to do the studies,” says Sharon Lamb, a clinical psychologist and associate professor at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vt., who served on the task force. . . .
The report cites Bratz dolls, in particular, for “sexualized clothing. . . .”
“Although these dolls may present no more sexualization of girls or women than is seen in MTV videos, it is worrisome when dolls designed specifically for 4- to 8-year-olds are associated with an objectified adult sexuality,” the report says.

Remember when Hasbro was ? Fortunately, the after my readers and others objected.
