American Cowards in Sochi: Our Embarrassing, Unfounded Fear, Cowering to Islamic Terrorists

By Debbie Schlussel

Bleeping cowards. That’s what Americans are in Sochi. Cowards.

sochiolympics

The impending Sochi Olympic Games will be the safest Olympic Games ever. They will be much safer than the 2002 Mitt Romney Salt Lake Olympic Winter Games (where Mitt famously scolded Americans for patriotism and told them NOT to cheer for the U.S. Olympic Team–Mitt Happens). There will be more than twice the security personnel per capita in Sochi during the Games than during the Salt Lake Games or any other Olympics.

And, yet, the Obama U.S. government is telling American Olympians not to wear their uniforms outside of Olympic venues. Huh? And, then, there are athletes like Jessica Jerome of the U.S. Olympic Ski Jumping Team, who bragged to both ABC and NBC News that she told her parents, “Bring a jacket that doesn’t scream America.” Are we that cowardly that we can no longer show we are Americans and be openly proud of our country at the Olympics? The Israelis–who lost nearly their entire Olympic team at Munich–don’t act that way. They are proud and secure. Secure and proud. The only reason the Munich Islamic terrorist attacks happened to them is that the Germans and the Olympic power elites refused to let Israeli security guard the Israelis. I’ll bet the Israelis are not telling their athletes, “Make sure you don’t look Jewish (or Israeli–Israel also has non-Jewish, Arab athletes in athletic events).

I’m embarrassed that America is cowering. And since we are, why on earth are we there? If things are so unsafe that we must hide that we are Americans, then we have no business being there.

But that’s simply not the case. For all of his faults, Vladimir Putin knows how to respond to Islamic terrorists. That’s why they fear and respect him. That’s why they pick soft targets like train stations and theaters. They wouldn’t dare shoot up a Russian military base like Nidal Malik Hasan did at Fort Hood. They wish they could, but they know they wouldn’t get that far, while we looked the other way at Hasan’s behavior every step of the way.

When the Superbowl was held in Detroit not long after 9/11, there were claims that over 10,000 law enforcement personnel were in town to keep everyone safe. Yet, there were two murders (at least one of which remains unsolved) in the center of all the bars and restaurants and just a couple of blocks from the venue, Ford Field. A giant underground parking lot in the heart of it all could have been easily bombed to destroy the Superbowl weekend. And friends of mine easily snuck into this “highly guarded” Superbowl.

But Vladimir Putin’s security is much tighter. His state security, the FSB, sniffed out the dangerous Tsarnaev Brothers before they successfully waged jihad on America, and America was warned. The CIA’s and FBI’s excuse is that they asked the Russians for more info, and the Russians never responded. So the US federal law enforcement agencies just forgot about it and didn’t care much. That’s not how it works in Russia.

As I’ve noted before, I have no fascination with Putin, forever a KGB agent and the welcoming host of Edward Snowden and his espionage, but I’d feel very safe at the Sochi Olympics. For two weeks, it will be the safest place on earth.

And despite that, Americans are chickens. And chicken littles. “The sky is falling,” even though it isn’t. It reminds me of the cowardice just before the Benghazi attacks, when our Embassy in Cairo was under attack and we merely closed up shop and cowered.

That’s what Muslims and their terrorist henchmen want. They want to make us fear them and disrupt our lives and lifestyles to accommodate that fear.

And with athletes like Ms. Jerome telling their parents to be afraid and other athletes telling their parents not to show up, they are achieving that goal, whether or not a Black Widow carries out her Islamic terrorist plans. Ditto for the Obama State Department’s warning not to wear the U.S. uniform. The only reason not to wear it is that it looks like a bad Christmas sweater, not a proud emblem of American patriotism (sorry, Ralph Lauren).

sochiamericanuniform

Americans and American athletes should be proud and beaming at Sochi. That’s the only thing that Muslims respect.

As far as all that cowardice goes, Kchortu [let the devil take it--a Russian idiom usually wished on someone for good luck].

“If things are so unsafe that we must hide that we are Americans, then we have no business being there.”

Well stated.

DS_ROCKS! on January 27, 2014 at 5:16 pm

First and foremost.. We, as Real and True Americans (those of us who are) will never hide or run. We have EVERY right and desire to be there.
Now, just because the Russians have a deeper (yet hidden and covert, though blunt) hatred for islam and muslims, and rightfully so, does not mean the United States is capable of making decisions, logistical or tactical, to aid in the security operations taken by the Russians.
Obama and his cast of womb rejected, idiotic, playmates of islam have absolutely no idea how to defend a country, much less have a say in efforts to defeat islam like the Russians are prepared to do. And will do.. Obama has encouraged defeat by simply stating that “we are not so sure of Russia’s ability to defeat and/or secure” the Olympic arena.
As we speak, there are phony and fake American’s running scared. Examples: athleyes are keeping families home; NHL has stated that it will not send players to Olympics. Chicken shit mother effers….
American Soldiers have given their lives and sacrificed so much only to have pathetic America run scared. You deserve to have a face to face with al qaeda andcas American Soldiers, we shall look the other way. You slap our mission and efforts, we can feed you to islam.. We despise them as Russia does..
You get what you get. Go whine elsewhere…..

oifmack on January 28, 2014 at 10:44 am

Also, the politically correct stance is to be ashamed of being Americans. Certainly our President does not respect traditional American values. The Olympians, being alert to the best ways of making money afterwards, are picking up on this.

Rebellion against politically correct norms could be costly, financially.

Little Al on January 27, 2014 at 5:53 pm

This is what this country has come down to – hiding being American as though it would make us appear vulnerable. In reality it makes us look like the laughingstock of the planet. If we’re that afraid of security in Sochi, we have no business sending our Olympic team there, period.

But you can bet the Russians and the Israelis – yes, Israel does have a strong Winter Games present – will be entering the Olympic Stadium wearing their official team colors. Pandering to Islam won’t make America more respected! Someone forgot to let Obama and the US Olympic Team honchos know. And its unbecoming of a superpower.

Fear doesn’t bode well for the US medal chances in the 2014 Games. I wouldn’t like to be in this team’s shoes, that is for sure. To call it disgraceful is putting American sports cowardice mildly.

NormanF on January 27, 2014 at 6:00 pm

We have become ashamed of our nationality. It is something to be apologetic about, especially under the Obama Administration.

worry01 on January 27, 2014 at 6:05 pm

According to McCain Americans should be scared because the Arab Spring is on it’s way to Putin and might even reach Sochi.

Don’t think Benghazi had anything to do with cowardice unless Hilary was afraid to face the music or Obama was afraid to lose at cards.

The FBI/CIA disclaimer that Russians didn’t play ball stinks to high heaven.
There is something very rotten there.

Frankz on January 27, 2014 at 6:14 pm

I’ll have to completely disagree with Debbie on this one. I believe that we should seek and get approval in advance from the official Islamic terrorist organizations so that the United States knows what will be deemed acceptable to those organizations. By giving those Islamic terrorist organizations their due respect, they will, in turn, have greater respect for U.S. citizens and may even come to love them. History proves that this is so.

The last real Olympics was 1980 when we kicked Russia’s ass in hockey. The way things have gone since then–the whole thing should just be scrapped. What a crock.

Tommy Thomas on January 27, 2014 at 9:40 pm

Instead of just stating how people should act and feel, here’s a suggestion;
Buy a ticket to Sochi, buy the most patriotic gear you can find this side of the 4th of the July, stay on the outside of the Olympic village and report from there!
It’s easy to bad mouth and call people cowards, but the last thing we need is one of our Olympians to get kidnapped while having a few too many glasses of Russian Standard while partying on the town!

I was in Vancouver 4 years ago and the athletes were running wild all over town and pretty much having sex with anything that moves. The athletes only perform 1-3 days of the entire event which lasts over 2 weeks. Remember that most are still young and under 25 years old, so a lil but of fair warning isn’t gonna do anyone no harm…. I’m sure Sochi will also have it’s fair share of orgies

Clayton on January 28, 2014 at 12:05 am

Muslim terrorists get what they deserve and what they fear from the Russians. The story is widely told that during the ’80s when Americans were being kidnapped and murdered in Lebanon that a Hezbollah offshoot tried that with a Russian diplomat. Word is that the KGB hunted down the culprits, castrated all of their male heirs in front of them and then shot every one of the hostage takers in the head. No Russian was ever bothered again in Lebanon. Sometimes, you have to out savage the savages. There won’t be any problems in Sochi. Even Chechens fear Putin’s wrath.

fleiter on January 28, 2014 at 7:55 am

I’m not so sure that Vladmir Putin knows how to handle Islamic terrorists. I think his record is a bit mixed.

He continues to export major military weapons systems to Iran.

Of course, talking about Putin changes the subject. WRT the US Olympic team, I think they should fly the flag proudly. That’s part of what the Olympics is all about. Rooting for your team means wearing your team colors.

I haven’t heard the Canadians acting this way. They have a substantial Winter Olympics team.

This is the same President who said there is no “War on Terror” that justified Bush Administration policies. Suddenly, he becomes President and there’s a “War on Terror” to justify HIS policies. The only “hope and change” we got was doing more of the bad things the Bush Administration did.

Gitmo is still open (in case Democrats haven’t noticed). Frankly, I think we should give those poor prisoners a change of scenery. A few weeks in International Falls might be good for them right now. :-)

Thinking the same thing and it POs me. Bad guys win…

In the spirit of things, I propose a new Olympic sport. A year-round jihadi shoot. Only states can compete – like spec war forces from India, China, U.S., Russia, euros. We share info. Pinpoint them and have at it until practitioners, teachers, proponents, active and passive supporters and their evil ideology is eradicated.

Way it is now, there’s a war but only one side is fighting it.

Pray Hard…. That’s exactly what the world needs another hollocaust and more mass murders based on religions… Keep your Nazi fantasies to yourself you twisted scumbag

Clayton on January 28, 2014 at 11:11 am

      Clayton…

You are obviously ignorant to facts. Tis idiots like you that make islam, and muslims, feel as though they have a purpose. Your bleeding heart and fear tainted thoughts are nothing more than pathetic wonder. Pray Hard knows exactly where he stands and is willing make it known. All you do is pick the greener side of the lawn, or as you see fit. History has proven that theocracy fails. History has proven that tyrants are of many forms and you obviously share in Obama’s patheticisms.
Islam forced the hand of the United States. Luckily, it was Bush in office, not Obamaand his cult of womb rejected tunnel worshippers. To you and the many who side with fear, greed, laziness, and outright stupidity by virtue of befriending islam, may your demise cometh at hands of islam.
You lack intellect, courage, and most importantly, values…..

oifmack on January 28, 2014 at 12:11 pm

Clayton, you’re a newbie here, so I won’t hit you as hard as you deserve. First, you misspell “holocaust.” Really bad form. Second, you idiotically equate Islam with any other religion, when Islam is, arguably, not even a religion, but a political, social, and military system of domination. Third, rather than point out that Islam has, in fact, much in common with Nazism, you attack someone else who rejects Islam as a Nazi. Tell me: how many Good Nazis were there in WW2? How many Good Muslims today? Fourth, your punctuation and syntax show you to be subliterate but full of opinions. This is awfully tedious. Fifth, though you are a newbie here, totally lacking any understanding of what regulars believe and what their norms are, you assume the pose of someone who has any business telling others what is proper for them to can say here.

skzion on January 28, 2014 at 8:08 pm

Skzion you’re a complete idiot! First I indeed did misspell holocaust, and my grammar might not be the best, but this is the comments section of a backpage blog so who cares. Second Islam is no different than Judaism or Christianity when it comes to being a social, military, political means of domination, I’ll even take it a step further and call all three a means of brainwashing, manipulating and division that have contributed more evil than good. Third I called Pray Hard’s comment of vaporizing all Muslims as a nazi fantasy because he just basically supported racial profiling, mass murder and ethnic cleansing. I can create common links between any religion/political party or system to Nazi ideologies, but the guy was talking about genocide/mass murder/ethnic cleansing of Muslims and that’s WAY more Nazi and twisted. Fourth everyone has a right to an opinion, I was just making sure that Pray Hard is aware of how disgustingly disturbing his post was, and that’s a fact. Fifth whether you’re a newbie, a veteran, whether it’s this site, the huffington post, Fox News, espn, playboy, nickelodeon or anywhere else there are things that should just be kept to yourself…
Skzion I really think you should be the one we all send to Sochi draped in stars n stripes. Of course you won’t be attending any Olympic events or even stay within the secured area of the village, but you can post daily videos for us all to see how safe it really is and how “Barky” is just mongering fear.

LET’S SEND SKZION TO SOCHI!!! We collectively need to collect about $10K for that to happen, I’ll be the first to make a contribution of $200! Let’s all get on board and SEND SKZION TO SOCHI!

Clayton on January 29, 2014 at 12:23 am

Skuzzy, the dingbat Skanky, and various other morons always be playing the part of English grammar professors, but who gives a shit, their own writing skills are at the 8th grade level at best. The important thing is that they always complain about “political correctness” while at the same time they are the epitome of political correctness and Fascist views. And they all found love on this blog.

Clayton on January 31, 2014 at 8:41 pm

The whole idea of the Olympics is based on crap. The original Olympics were held in part to honor pagan, demonic gods. If you look closely at our ruling classes, the movers and shakers, and consider their activities at the Bohemian grove, you will find that they still worship them. If you look at the symbolism displayed at the Olympics in recent years you will find that these modern Olympics also honor those same demon gods. The Olympics are part of the psy war and propaganda effort to bring in the New World Order, one world government. They promote this idea that all these nations can actually cooperate and live in peace. Someone mentioned the Muslim brotherhood, and it’s probable designs on Russia. The M.B. could very well be the shock troops of the N.W.O. They seem to be doing a pretty good job of “uniting” the middle east and Africa right now. Saudi Arabia, Iran and some of the small Arab states are holding out, they had Egypt and it slipped out of their grasp, and they are losing in Syria, in the present time. But, they think long term, and our government is talking war in Syria again. I personally find most of the Olympic sports boring, and most of the atheletes are unknowns and usually stay that way, gold medals or no. I can’t see spending all this money on security for the Olympics (that we pay for)and I sure as hell wouldn’t part with my hard earned money, and then submit to be guarded and herded by cattle in an armed camp to watch. If the majority of the worlds people weren’t subject to the delusion, and drinking the mass media Kool Aide, most of these nations would say, pffft, we ain’t goin this year, and probably won’t be going next year.

This is what we get when we have a big eared wuss in the White House. Obama in his feckless attempt to seem tough while dealing with Putin only emphasized two things. He(Putin thinks that Obama is the biggest joke to ever stink up the hall of the White House since BJ Clinton and that the terrorists aren’t scared of our government. How else do you explain our Olympic athletes cowering in fear. They take their cues from the all yack no sack crowd like the O’CLown, Gaffes Biden, Lurch Kerry and Droopy Hagel. Say what you want about Putin(who forever will have his KGB ID in his wallet) but he knows that scum like Hezbollah, Hamas and Al Qaeda cringe when they hear his name. I challenge any dimwit liberal to really argue that the terrorists pee brains feel the same way about Odumbo. The only thing that these winter Olympics have to worry about is viewership. I think that Odummers State of the Disunion Address will have more viewers than the first night of this mess. Trust me that aint saying much. I really do get so sick of Americans cowering in fear for no reason but like I said with the Doofus in Chief in charge what can we expect. As far as his speech tonight I’d rather watch the documentary on finding Bigfoot on the Discovery Channel. Oh wait silly me I forgot Bigfoot will be at the Capitol along with her husband. More reason not to watch.

Ken B on January 28, 2014 at 5:46 pm

I have a slightly different take on this. I believe this is a feeble attempt by the Obama administration to get back at and embarrass Putin because of how Putin has been schooling Obama over Syria and other issues.

I_AM_ME on January 28, 2014 at 8:12 pm

BTW, I have to have to Ralph Lauren: he manages to make good looking, well built athletes look like quite ordinary couch potatoes.

skzion on January 28, 2014 at 9:10 pm

The American media and Obama want to see a terrorist attack because they want to see Putin shamed. Because Putin cracks down on Muslims and Gays the American media wants to see the Olympics fail. Russia has become more capitalist than America and we have become more socialist than Russia. I admire Putin because he actually cares about his people. Putin says “Dear friends, we bow our heads in memory of the victims of these terrible attacks. We will strongly and decisively continue the battle against terrorists until their total annihilation,” and doesn’t want homosexuals preying on the most vulnerable of his population, their children.
And to the NSA, who is reading and monitoring our comments, I trust Snowden and Putin before I trust Obama. 5,4,3,2,….

The Chosen One on January 30, 2014 at 1:59 am

Those uniforms are very loud, which is why I would not want to wear them off the stage. Other than that, Americans should feel free to wear that or whatever they want when they go to represent our country in an international competition. It is like they are being told to be ashamed to be American rather than to be proud and fight for the right to be one.

America is full of foreigners any more. Most major metro areas seem like they are mostly foreigners. If they can’t figure out how to deal with them by now, what hope is there for the USA? Should they then be ashamed to like America when they are at home also, lest some foreigner feels like beating them up for it?

These people are supposed to be athletes which is like being a sort of ersatz warrior. When they are made to cower and hide, it takes all the thrill out of the competition.
