Detroit Police Chief James Craig, originally a gun control supporter, is now calling for more Detroit citizens to be armed. Moreover, he’s finally admitting that gun ownership deters crime and is in favor of more Detroiters obtaining Michigan Concealed Pistol Licenses. Right on!

I was not originally a fan of Motown’s relatively new Police Chief, Craig, especially after he let a carjacker go (because the Chief is not actually a police officer and could only make a citizen’s arrest!). But, now, I’m rethinking my view about him. He’s finally turned the corner on our Second Amendment rights. Maybe he’ll turn other corners and turn things around in the City. Detroit’s homicide numbers went down last year compared to the previous year, though he cannot take credit for that, as he’s only been in office a few months. But, still, I’m looking forward to good things from Chief Craig. He’s bucked the trend of urban police chiefs who mostly support taking citizens’ guns away. Maybe he’ll buck other similarly moronic conventional inner city law enforcement wisdom.

How many fires and explosions caused by “natural gas” spur Homeland Security federal agents to investigate? None. But ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents are investigating the Minneapolistan New Year’s Day explosion. And they don’t usually get involved unless it involves illegal immigration matters and sometimes Islamic terrorism.

I’m no conspiracy theorist. But it’s stupid to look the other way when a religion that is often involved in conspiracies–and deliberate explosions–is heavily connected to an explosion. And so it goes with the big Minneapolistan fire in the news. Yesterday’s explosion in a Minneapolis building chock full with Muslim inhabitants and a halal butcher shop and grocery store is suspicious. (There is a mosque and Islamic cultural center next door.) While some authorities are now theorizing that it could have been the result of a natural gas leak, it might have been something else: arson, experiments with explosives, or something else. These sinister things have happened before at Muslim-owned businesses and places where Muslims are experimenting with devices for use against non-Muslims. It wouldn’t be the first time. And several of those who inhabited the building are missing and unaccounted for. We know that most of those in the building were Somalian Muslims, and probably many of them were here illegally, which may be why ICE/HSI (Homeland Security Investigations) agents are on the scene. But they are also there to find out if foul play was involved.

While no final determination has been made, a source close to the law enforcement investigation said that it is believed that the initial explosion occurred at the ground level of the building. Homeland Security personnel were on the scene in the aftermath of the fire that sent 14 people to hospitals, six in critical condition. Bob Grant, who died December 31, is being called the “father of conservative talk radio.” I’m not so sure that he was the sperm donor to the genre (there were others before him), and if he was, that’s sad. I didn’t wish him ill. But as I learned the news, I couldn’t help but recall my one and only experience with Bob Grant, when I was a guest on his radio show, and I had to hang up on him after he shut off my microphone and attacked me as “cheap” because he couldn’t handle the truth about a famous conservative’s open support for HAMAS. Conservative or liberal, the facts–while stubborn things–weren’t as stubborn as he was in refusing to face them. . . at least in my experience. Perhaps he was getting too old and was out of it, but, in general, a leopard doesn’t change his spots, especially in his 80s.

In 2009, Grant was trying to make a comeback on New York radio, and he began with an online radio show. My former agent, a great guy, suggested I go on Grant’s show, as I believe he was also representing Grant. And I obliged. But Grant didn’t do his homework. The topic was the death of self-identified HAMASnik and conservative Bob Novak, a self-hating convert away from Judaism, who wrote that Jews and Israel were behind 9/11. Upon his death, Novak was repeatedly lamented by hypocritical, phony conservatives, including David Horowitz, Michelle Malkin Fraudkin, The American Spectator, Townhall, Newsbusters, Hot Air, etc., all of whom will rightfully jump on liberals and leftists for being anti-Israel and pro-Muslim, but not when it’s a conservative like Novak. (And Novak wasn’t all that conservative, truth be told.)

Bob Grant, had he bothered to read my website or even just the headline, would have known my views on Novak. But, instead, he put me on the show, and started gushing over Novak. I disagreed and started pointing out why Novak was a bad guy. Grant couldn’t handle these facts or refute them. He couldn’t admit he was wrong, or respectfully disagree and make a viable argument against my views on Novak. So, he played the wimp card–attacking me personally as “cheap,” telling me he was “soooo disappointed in me,” and then shut off the audio feed from my phone, so I couldn’t respond.

If that’s any indication of the kind of conservative talk radio host Bob Grant was in his heyday, he wasn’t much of one. Again, I don’t know if that’s how he always was, or if he was already experiencing dementia or Alzheimer’s (and I know many older people in their 80s who are very sharp–it’s just that Bob Grant wasn’t one of ’em). My site has been down a good part of the day, so I am only now posting my Best Movies list that I planned to post earlier. My apologies.

I was so busy around this time last year (and am still so busy now) that I didn’t get to my year’s best movies, so I’m giving you both my lists: the DebbieSchlussel.com Best Movies of 2013 and, below that, the DebbieSchlussel.com Best Movies of 2012. Better late than never, right? I found it interesting that, while I looked through my reviews and thought through the movies I saw, there were fewer I really liked in 2013 than in the year before. That’s because the movies are getting worse and worse, far less inspired and original, and far more derivative and crappy. Among the highest grossing movies this year, most of them were sequels. I used to do a “Worst Movies” list each year, but there were so many I hated, the list would be 30-50 movies. So I’ve stopped doing that. Sorry.

Here’s what I liked best, below. I tried to narrow it down to ten, but couldn’t do it. All movies I reviewed have a link to my full/complete review on the title. However, some I have not reviewed yet because they did not yet debut in Detroit or I did not screen them prior to their release and review them on this site (and will post a review in the next week if they already showed here–will be noted in the blurb next to the movie). You may note that I rate movies better now, at the end of the year, than I may have when I first reviewed them. It all comes with time and perspective, especially compared with what else I saw during the entire year. 1 (Tie) – “Lone Survivor“: Every American needs to see this. Great re-telling of the real-life story of several Navy SEALs who are bound by the Geneva Convention rules, while terrorists are not. As the title indicates, because of this only one, Marcus Luttrell, survives and lives to tell about the heroism of them all. If you love America, you gotta see this–about the ultimate acts of American patriotism and sacrifice. Stay tuned for my review in 1.5 weeks when the movie is released nationwide.

1 (Tie) – “Captain Phillips“: Great movie based on the real life story about Islamic terrorists hijacking the Maersk and how Captain Richard Phillips deals with them. Riveting and patriotic, too. The Navy SEALs are, once again, shown at their best (when even their “worst” is pretty good).

A cowardly Muslim chick is calling for me to be murdered because I’m Jewish, and Twitter refuses to do anything about it.

Yup, it’s time for another edition of “Religion of Peace” hate-tweet of the day. As I noted, I get these on a regular basis on all of my social media outlets, and e-mail and comments left on this site. If I posted all of them, I’d spend all of my time doing that, so I just put up a (rotten) “taste” of them.

I reported the first tweet, below, to Twitter, and yet it remains up. I hope you will report it, too (if you have a Twitter account–if not, please join up and follow me on Twitter). FYI, “jahannam” is “hell” in Islam/Arabic, and “haraam” is “forbidden, not permitted/allowed” in Islam/Arabic.

ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) isn’t keeping you safe from illegal alien murderers and terrorists in our midst. But it is keeping us safe from Nazi diaries. That’s what I learned by looking at the latest press puff pieces in ICE’s PR machine.

If you flee those who hate America, and then help America against its enemies, don’t bother saving any souvenirs. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be at your family’s and friends’ doors ready to take the items and hand them over to liberal institutions. That’s what happened to the family and friends of Dr. Robert M.W. Kempner, a heroic German Jewish lawyer who fled the Nazis and became a top adviser in U.S. efforts to prosecute the Nazis after World War II during the Nuremberg Trials. (He also represented Jewish clients in Germany seeking restitution and was an expert at the Eichmann trial.) And the pathetic agency that is ICE is touting its seizure of the some of the documents he rightfully kept as one of the agency’s big stories of the year. The story is the outrage of the whole thing. Even more outrageous is that ICE is now the treasure hunting police for the greedy administrators at the liberal U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.

Since the aimless/rudderless ICE, Homeland Security’s largest agency, isn’t deporting many illegal aliens (the number is down ten percent from last year’s number of a scant few deported criminals), ICE needs other things to do to justify its multi-billion dollar budget. And as I’ve noted, ICE is spending a lot of time and resources seizing war souvenirs from the families and descendants of American soldiers and returning them to those who hate us. We all know that Islamic terrorists and extremists take full advantage of the benefits and entitlements Western states stupidly offer them, all as they plot to attack those states and their people. We see it here in Dearbornistan, Michigan and beyond and in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and all over America. And so it goes with Mohammad Tzaber Mohammed Abu Amsha, a Palestinian Islamic terrorist in the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades. He’s demonstrated what has to be the Islamic terrorist chutzpah of the year.

Today, the IDF released details about what Abu Amsha did while he was planning attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians:

A resident of the Gaza Strip was in the process of planning a sniper attack on IDF soldiers, when he was injured and entered Israel with a humanitarian permit for medical care in Ramallah.

In early December, 2013, the ISA (Israel Security Agency or Shin Bet Security Service), with the assistance of the Israel Police, arrested a terrorist operative from the Gaza Strip’s Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades who has been involved in terrorist activity in recent years against civilians and soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces, including the planning of a sniper attack. The grinches who dominate Hollywood don’t offer you much good or cheery at movie theaters today:

* “Grudge Match“: I didn’t particularly care for this movie, but I didn’t completely hate it like some movie critics did. It is mildly–very mildly–entertaining, BUT . . . . The jokes were mostly stupid–I laughed only a few times–and it has sexual themes, so you can’t really take your kids to see it. Plus, what is the point of a movie about two old guys in their 60s and 70s–one of whom is partially blind–preparing to fight each other? It’s not exciting to watch. It’s painful. Also, I could have done without the silly, trumped up melodrama story about two guys fighting over a girl who cheated on one of them with the other. This is Christmas fare? Really?

Here’s a tip, Hollywood: just because two famous actors once played boxers in successful movies, doesn’t mean it’s a sure fire formula for success to make them aging, senior citizen boxers doing a rematch when they are in their 60s and 70s. Merry Christmas to all of my Christian readers & friends. I wish you a very joyous and merry Christmas with family, friends, and everything that you wish for. I hope you are enjoying the holiday.

Even though I believe very strongly in my own religion and I am not a Christian, I am thankful that, for now, America’s strong Christian tradition remains. With G-d’s* help, it is the only thing that keeps us from becoming a Muslim nation. Like you, I want to continue to practice my religion freely and for that to be the case for my fellow co-religionists and yours. As I’ve said so many times before on this site, even though I do not believe in Christ, I do believe that America has resisted becoming a Muslim nation thus far because of its strong Christian heritage and the fact that the majority of Americans still identify as Christians. That is and has always been the backbone and at the forefront of America’s traditional values. People like Miley Cyrus and the supporters of Hezbollah in Dearbornistan have one thing in common: they do not go to church and they do not believe in our common Judeo-Christian values, traditions, and heritage.

Look to Europe, and you’ll see why every single country there is moving toward becoming an Islamic state. Yes, a good part of it is because of immigration and birthrate problems that face America as well. And because of the welfare state for these immigrants and multiple births, as well as an orthodoxy of multiculturalism. But, ultimately, it’s because Europe has lost its Christian faith and more and more of its population is either unaffiliated or atheist. You see it in Great Britain. You see it throughout Scandinavia, where marriage and other sacraments of the Church and of Judeo-Christian values are anathema. Those are the same countries that have willingly allowed themselves to become ravaged by Muslim immigration and the corresponding hate. There is a reason Malmo, Sweden is no longer welcoming to Jews and the Israeli Davis Cup Tennis Team cannot compete there in front of a live audience, lest they be blown up.
