HA! Jordan’s King Abdullah Tries to Hide Fact That He CAN’T Speak Arabic!
Maybe one of these days, we’ll have a President of the United States who cannot speak English. That seems to be the way we are headed, and we currently have a President who thinks there are Heinz 57 states. But when you are the unelected king of the Palestinians, you can get away with hiding the fact that you don’t really speak the language of your country and your people, for only so long. I’ve often heard Jordanians say how they don’t see Abdullah as a real Jordanian or their king, anyway, since he was born to an English woman and raised in England. And he wasn’t the best choice for King. King Hussein’s brother, who had been Crown Prince before Hussein quickly transferred the title to Abdulllah, was the better choice–for America, for Israel, and for Middle East stability.

King Abdullah II of Jordan faces ongoing criticisms of his rule, much of which is not helped by his difficulties with Arabic. As the son of the deceased King Hussein and his British wife, Muna al-Hussein, he grew up speaking both Arabic and English. However, due to political instability in Jordan, his father sent him away for schooling in England. In his autobiography, he says that Arabic was his first language, and that experiences in England and with a Swiss nanny gave him a British accent (and some knowledge of French). However, opposition websites cite instances when he has delegated away his need to speak Arabic as a means to covering his inability to speak it.
