BREAKING: Muslims Lose, Mich Supreme Court Allows Judges To Require Removal of Face Veil

By Debbie Schlussel
Today, Muslims’ attempts to impose their religious beliefs on the Michigan court system failed . . . briefly.
The Michigan Supreme Court ruled that judges have discretion regarding the appearance of witnesses and litigants in their courtrooms. That includes requiring a witness to remove her Muslim face veil, known as the “niqab.” (Read the press release announcing the agenda for today’s Supreme Court administrative meeting and the language that was considered and approved.)
The controversy stems from a 2006 small claims case I covered extensively on this site. Hamtramck Judge Paul Paruk required Muslim convert Ginnah Muhammad to remove her face veil, in order to testify in his courtroom. She refused. But judges must determine the veracity of witnesses, and it’s impossible to do so, when a witness is dressed in full ninja gear, with only tiny eye slits showing. Because Muhammad refused, Paruk dismissed her case.

niqabginnahmuhammad.jpgnabihayadginnahmuhammad.jpg

Ginnah Muhammad in her Niqab, w/ Terrorist Lawyer Nabih Ayad
Muhammad sued Paruk in federal court, and as I noted on this site, she lost. Federal Judge John S. Feikens, in a no nonsense ruling, held that her civil rights were not violated by Judge Paruk’s reasonable request that he be able to see her face when she testified. He dismissed her federal suit.
The ACLU and Muhammad’s lawyer Nabih H. Ayad (a Hezbollah supporter who, himself, is being sued by the federal government for refusing to pay back over $117,000 in student loans that financed his law school education) then took up the matter with the Michigan Supreme Court. Plus, they are appealing Feikens’ decision in the Federal Court of Appeals.
Today, they lost at the Michigan Supreme Court level as well, as the majority of the Justices voted, this morning, to amend Michigan Rule of Evidence 611, to read as follows:

The court shall exercise reasonable control over the appearance of parties and witnesses so as to (1) ensure that the demeanor of such persons may be observed and assessed by the fact-finder, and (2) to ensure the accurate identification of such persons.

But don’t worry. The Muslims won’t give up. They will continue to fight this and try to get the definition of “reasonable control” to mean anything but. They will try to make case law declaring the removal of face veils declared “unreasonable.”
And they are nearly there. Five Michigan Supreme Court Justices voted for the amendment. Two–Marilyn Kelly and Diane Hathaway–voted against it. Hathaway, as I noted on this site, is the judge who gave Hezbollah terrorist (and soon-to-be medical doctor) Houssein Zorkot probation for his jihad dress rehearsal with an AK-47 in a Dearbornistan park. The two judges, both Democrats,

said they favored a religious exception endorsed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan and religious groups.

Figures. Some day soon, there will be five of them and only two who oppose this imposition of Islam on our courts.
Like I said, this victory is brief and temporary. And, frankly, the fact they are tying up our court system for their baloney is a loss in the first place.

Another Urgent Priority of Congress

By Debbie Schlussel
America’s economy is in shambles. So is American society, with American kids lagging behind in achievement in science, math, and reading, and lagging ahead in illegitimate teen pregnancies.
But Members of Congress, like Democrat Anna Eshoo, have the solution to it all.

Some members of Congress want broadcasters to turn down the volume on television commercials.
A bill sponsored by U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo (D., Calif.) would require the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to “preclude commercials from being broadcast at louder volumes than the program material they accompany.”
Broadcasters say they are addressing the problem already. . . . Rep. Eshoo’s bill could slow TV stations’ voluntary efforts to control commercial volumes because any FCC proceeding would generate debate and uncertainty.

remotecontrol.jpg

Final review of an industry standard on commercial volume is expected in July, and broadcasters could begin implementing it by fall, he said.

Here’s a tip for Congresschick Eshoo: There’s this amazing new invention. It’s called a remote control. We’ve had it for several decades now. But maybe you haven’t heard.
Try one.
Of all of the problems facing America, she picks this one?
Priorities.

Feminism Run Amok: American Males Left Behind

By Debbie Schlussel
While our government constantly spends tax money to promote women and gender-based affirmative action, men in America have fallen behind.
I’ve noted it on this site many times–whether it’s men as minorities in college and grad school student bodies, or men overwhelmingly and disparately affected with job loss in the bad economy, or males passed over in hiring positions in math and science at our nation’s tax-funded universities.
David Zincenko, editor-in-chief of “Men’s Health” magazine, has a great column on the disparities for men and how the American male–long under attack–is now in decline. (I don’t agree with his applause for Obama’s re-establishment of the White House Council on Women and Girls, an unnecessary office the Bush Administration closed; or his apparent endorsement of nationalized health care.)

womenatwork.jpgnomen.jpg
It’s not a good thing, and something to consider as we approach the day honoring the less appreciated parent, Father’s Day. Here are the key excerpts:

Some experts predict that this year, for the first time, more American women will have jobs than men. And that’s just furthering the decline of the endangered male.
Consider this: A 2007 government survey found that of the 36.8 million American adults who lack health insurance, 56% are men. But given the tremendous percentage of lost jobs that were held by men, that number could skyrocket. . . . [M]en who are single or divorced and who, studies show, live shorter lives than their married brethren . . . now make up the largest segment of the unemployed and uninsured. The impact of this in the form of untreated illness and injury will follow single men around for a generation. . . .

If anything, that part is the answer to the confirmed bachelor lifestyle and why it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, men make up the majority of those injured on the job. In the manufacturing, mining and construction fields, 86% of workplace injuries and illnesses occur to men and 92% of workplace-related deaths are men as well.
And let’s remember our injured vets: 98% of the Iraq wounded are men, and for many of them, their war-related health problems will continue for a lifetime.
Psychological issues again, often left untreated because of a lack of employment and insurance affect men in much greater numbers, as well. Almost 70% of homeless adults are men, and the suicide rate for young men is five times that of young women.
These factors help explain why, in 2006, the average American male could expect to live 5.1 fewer years than the average woman; a black American male will likely live 11 fewer years than a white American woman. (By contrast, in 1920 men and women could expect to enjoy about the same lifespan.)
Despite the overwhelming evidence that men are being left behind, the U.S. government has never made a concerted effort to address male health issues. Right now, there are seven (seven!) offices of women’s health in the U.S. government: six in the Department of Health and Human Services and one in the Department of Agriculture. And the Pentagon makes huge investments in women’s health research. Yet there is not a single federal organization that encourages and disseminates physical and mental health research for and about men.

I don’t advocate opening up and expanding agencies for the health of men. We need to close the agencies dedicated solely to the health of women. Those are discriminatory. And there’s no reason we need several such agencies. There should be a consolidation into one agency, which does research into the health of both sexes and the particular health needs of each one.
Still, the facts and figures he cites are telling. As America continues its push toward a matriarchy, pushing men out of the way in favor of artificial insemination, single mother households, etc., it is one more step in the way of America’s demise and our continuing quest to emulate Europe. As we honor Governors who abandon their families to Mr. Moms, while they pursue political careers and while their own daughters father babies out of wedlock and shut the fathers of their babies out of their kids’ lives, we must ask ourselves what are the benefits of that. Why are we applauding those who behave this way?
As men are cast off to the wayside as obsolete, ask yourself if you want America to be the international equivalent of the WNBA or a NOW meeting?

The Story No-one’s Talking About: Another Arab Muslim “Student” Tries to Bring a Knife on a Plane; UPDATE: Another 9/11?

By Debbie Schlussel
**** SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE ****
A few years ago, the incident involving Raed Abdul-Rahman Alsaif would have been a big national news story. Perhaps, international.
But now, in the era of Obama “post-terrorism,” we’re supposed to pretend that these things–these attempts by Muslims to bring weapons on planes for the apparent purpose of hijacking and, at the very least, testing the system–don’t happen. Yup, in this new “enlightened” age, these things are only reported once on the pages of the Tampa Tribune. And not in any other mainstream media sources outside South Florida. Yes, a Muslim man trying to get a seven-inch butcher knife on a plane in America is no longer “noteworthy.”

Federal authorities have charged a 24-year-old man with trying to bring a seven-inch knife aboard a plane at Tampa International Airport.

raedalsaif2.jpg

Raed Alsaif, Complete with Extremist Muslim Beard

Raed Abduhl-Rahman Alsaif was arrested June 4 as he tried to board US Airways flight 1077 to Phoenix and Portland, Ore., according to a criminal complaint.
During the screening process, an officer spotted a large chef’s knife in one of Alsaif’s bags, the complaint states. The knife was concealed between the outside fabric and the expandable pull handles of the bag.

Read the federal criminal complaint against Alsaif. According to private investigator Bill Warner (who has done a ton of digging into this guy), Alsaif is a Saudi Arabian national, here on a student visa–you know, one of those wonderful Saudi student visas that President Bush and Saudi King Abdullah doubled to 30,000, in the interest of “open exchange” and “understanding.”
Bill reports that Alsaif has two previous instances on his criminal record:

Raed Abduhl-Rahman Al-Saif is a student at the University of Tampa and has been arrested at least twice before in the last 8 months on Felony drug charges in Hillsborough County.

And, of course, as many Muslims and Arabs do, the guy spelled his name differently in those instances, as “Raed Abdurahmans Alsaif” and “Raed Abdulrahman Alsaif.”
Hmmm . . . three arrests, and this guy is still here? Where is ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement)? Oh, yeah, they can’t do their jobs, or else Janet Napolitano a/k/a “The Lesbionic Woman” will investigate them for doing it.
And Bill notes that Alsaif is a graduate of the Islamic Saudi Academy Alexandria, VA–an extremist school linked to Al-Qaeda and that the Alsaif family is prominent in Al-Qaeda.
Let’s hear it for those Saudi Muslim student visas!
**** UPDATE: Bill Warner also points out that on the very same day (June 4, 2009) that Alsaif tried to sneak the butcher knife onto the U.S. Airways flight bound for Phoenix, Arizona, two other men, Roshid Milledge and Damien Young, were caught trying to do the same thing from Philadelphia–also on a U.S. Airwarys flight bound for Phoenix, Arizona. Both flights were scheduled to take off within 35 minutes of each other. Coincidence? Or mass hijacking plan a la 9/11?
Don’t bet against the latter.

Annoying Tranny Lawsuit of the Day

By Debbie Schlussel
Would you want this “woman”/”man”/whatever in your bar? Your straight bar? Using the restrooms?
Club owners have businesses to run. And they can’t afford strange biology experiments to drive away customers.

Sierra D. Broussard, 28, of Appleton, filed a civil suit against Park Central, a downtown Appleton nightclub, claiming she was denied admission June 21 because she is black and a transsexual.
Broussard said she was twice denied entrance to Park Central, 318 W. College Ave., and said an employee told her if she “used either bathroom it would cause confusion for the other patrons,” and that she should go to a club that caters to “her kind.”

transgenderbarbie.jpg

Her name and appearance identifies her as a woman, but her identification lists her as a man, and she said she doesn’t plan on having the necessary surgery to complete her transformation from male to female.
Concepts Unlimited Inc., the owner of Park Central, and its owners, Charles A. and Lynn McCarrell, deny that Broussard was denied admission because she is black or transgender.
They admit she was not allowed to use the men’s or women’s bathrooms because it would cause confusion for their customers.

How “intolerant.” And how insensitive of them not to have built a third restroom for “Other.”

They also deny the refusal caused her economic losses or mental and emotional distress and embarrassment. Outagamie County courts are not the proper venue and jurisdiction for the lawsuit, they claim.
Outagamie County Judge Mitch Metropulos has scheduled a jury trial on the case for Nov. 17 to 18. Before then, parties involved will give depositions and attorneys will file motions. Broussard will continue her fight, which she said is the first transgender discrimination case in the state.

What an accomplishment! Brag about it to the grandchildren. Oh wait, it’ll be kinda hard for her/him/it to have any.

“I am still going to fight it and I am not going to drop anything,” Broussard said. “You can refuse service but you can’t discriminate.”

Now, do you see why people don’t want to see transsexuals and the transgendered covered in laws against discrimination?
Some discrimination needs to happen, if you’re business is going to survive. Discrimination at clubs goes on every single day, when pretty girls and celebrities go to the beginning of the line and right into the club, while others wait in line outside. Discrimination and the exclusion of freaks is the club way of life. And there’s nothing illegal about it. It’s business.
No-one wants a freak poisoning their establishment. No-one sinks their life savings into a business for the sake of social and contra-biological experimentation.

What NOT to Buy Dad for Father’s Day

By Debbie Schlussel
As you’ve probably heard, Sunday is Father’s Day. And every retailer is pushing their Dad’s Day wares on you as a possible gift.
But some things the media is pitching–here’s a tip–are not for your dad (unless your Dad is Todd Palin and has quit his job to take care of two babies, so the mother of one can go tanning and the mother of the other can pursue her political ambitions instead of putting her family first).
Despite the mainstream media urging you to do so, if you buy this for your dad, you’re basically saying, “Dad, you’re a chick. You’re the missus in your relationship with mom.” Yes, this gift is for the whipped men of America only. Don’t be fooled by the skulls and the camouflage and the use of the word “dude.” No father wants this “gift” for Dad’s Day.

Know what Dad really wants for Father’s Day?
Same thing he wants every other day of the year: simple quality. That means no silly ties or anything else you both know will end up buried in the closet.

diaperdude.jpg
Here are some gift ideas that will give dear old dads timeless enjoyment.
New Dad
. . . [N]ew dads carry their share of anticipations and responsibilities, too. Take those 3 a.m. feedings that take a toll on even the most ardent night owls. . . .
Speaking of handy, the Diaper Dude diaper bag ($54.99 at babiesrus.com) holds diapers and other baby necessities in a most masculine manner. And because a sense of humor does wonders for new dads, Wry Baby (wrybaby.com) has The Wheel for Parents ($11.95), a chore wheel that gives dads (and moms) a 50/50 chance of skipping diaper duty, while Proud Parent Pins for Dad ($9) are five buttons that look perfect on that Diaper Dude bag or anyplace else dads want to declare their parenthood with humorous pride.

Hint: the words “dude,” “diaper,” and “bag” should never appear together. When they do, it’s just a euphemism for Whipped Guy’s Man Purse. As for the description, claiming this thing is in “a most masculine manner,” HA! Ain’t nothin’ masculine about it. Sorry.

diaperdude2.jpg

A Rose by Any Other Name . . . is Still A Mr. Mom Purse
Yup, if you buy this for your dad, you’re basically saying, “Hey, you surrendered your man card.” You’re not saying, “Man Up.” You’re Saying “Woman Up.”
If you buy this for your husband, it’s been long known that you, not he, wears the pants in the family.
***
By the way, don’t even start to compare Father’s Day to Mother’s Day. Family members outspend on gifts for Mom by at least two to one what they spend on Dad. It’s sad. We don’t properly appreciate men and father’s and the important roles they play.
Geoff Williams summarizes it well:

One Mother’s Day, I bought my wife what she had wanted for years — a weeping cherry tree — and I threw in a bird bath, so that when the tree matures, our feathered friends can happily splash and drink under its loving protection.
For Father’s Day, my wife gave me some boxer shorts and a tiny reading light, so I can flip through a book in bed without disturbing her.
My wife is the first to admit it: For her, and for many people, Father’s Day is an afterthought, a holiday just a few steps above the one that celebrates the groundhog and that other one that promotes trees.
If Mom’s Day and Dad’s Day were in a prize fight, we all know which holiday would wind up lying in the corner of the ring, knocked-out teeth on the mat, dazed head stuck in a bucket.

But don’t read the rest of his column because he turns into a Diaper Dude.

Expand the Racist Rooney Rule to the Playing Field

By Debbie Schlussel
NFL affirmative action exists everywhere but on the playing field (and the owner’s suite). That’s because the field is the only place where merit, ability, and qualifications rule.
The National Football League just announced that it’s expanding the Rooney Rule–which requires NFL teams to consider and interview at least one minority candidate before hiring a head coach–to the League’s and team’s front offices. (The rule is named for Obama supporter and Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney, who chaired the NFL committee requiring this uber-affirmative action stringency.)
That means that whenever an NFL team has any senior football operations positions open, it must interview at least one minority candidate before filling the vacancy.
But the NFL and its mostly White male gazillionaire owners are hypocrites. If they were truly interested in opening up every position to minorities, they’d require it for the field, too.

nfl.jpgaffirmativeaction.jpg
For example, every time an NFL team is considering drafting a Black guy to positions like Wide Receiver and Running Back (where White guys basically need not apply), each NFL team should be required to scout out a White guy and watch him run the 40.
It’s only fair.
White men, for the last couple of decades have been excluded from these positions. And we must conclude that this is because of the anti-White racism of team owners and coaches. And the opportunities must be given. White guys must get some consideration, a chance to get their proverbial feet in the door. After all, the numbers don’t lie. The NFL is clearly discriminating against Caucasians when it comes to these positions. Who says White guys can’t run with the ball?
Apparently, NFL owners and coaches say it because more than 75% of NFL players are Black. Sounds like racism to me. The numbers don’t lie. Who cares if the Black guys beat out the White dudes at the NFL Combine, in yards rushed, and how fast they can run the forty? That’s not what matters, right? Only skin color should matter, pursuant to the new expansion of the Rooney Rule.
And, frankly, if they’re going to be truly fair about it, every time a White gazillionaire tries to buy an NFL team, I think the League should be required to interview a prospective Black owner. You know, just to be fair. After all, Black owners are completely under-represented in the League. So what if far fewer Black Americans have the finances or the desire to own an NFL team? That’s irrelevant, when there’s clearly historical racism in favor of White billionaires (the Forbes list must be racist).
Bring Oprah in and give her a shot The chick could double as a Noseguard and a billionaire owner.
And that White guy running the entire league? Time for him to step aside from this fantasy job in favor of a Black man. Put your money where your mouth is, Roger Goodell and NFL owners.
So, I say, expand the Rooney Rule all the way. Or don’t have it at all.
The next time you hear about the “fairness” and noblesse oblige of the mostly liberal billionaire hypocrites who’ve imposed affirmative action to their front office and coaching positions, ask yourself why they continue to be “racists”–consumed with these irrelevant factors like speed and ability–on the playing field.
What’s good for the goose . . . is good for the player.
***
As for the morality of Dan Rooney, it’s interesting that a guy who has no problem employing drug dealer exhibitionists who beat women and father multiple kids out of wedlock, is so worried about discrimination.
Priorities.

“The Work Americans Won’t Do”: Children of L.A. Illegal Aliens Cost $44 Milln Welfare Per Month

By Debbie Schlussel
For years, you’ve been told about how illegal aliens are doing “the Work Americans Won’t Do.” You’ve been told that if we enforce the borders and send them home, lettuce will cost $10 a head.
Well, you’re already paying far more than $10 a head, and you’re not even getting the lettuce.

Figures from the Department of Public Social Services show that children of illegal aliens in Los Angeles County collected more than $21 million in welfare and more than $22 million in food stamps in March 2009 — an increase of $1 million from the previous month, according to a news release from Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
Annually the cost of illegal immigration to Los Angeles County taxpayers exceeds one billion dollars, which includes $220 million for public safety, $400 million for healthcare, and $500 million in welfare and food stamps allocations, according to the news release.

illegalaliens.jpg

muslimgivingthefinger.jpg

Muchas Gracias & Shukran, Los Angeles County Taxpayers

Twenty-four percent of the county’s total allotment of welfare and food stamp benefits goes directly to the children of illegal aliens born in the United States, according to Antonovich’s statement.
“Illegal immigration continues to have a devastating impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers,” Antonovich said in the statement. “The total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers exceeds $1 billion a year – not including the millions of dollars for education.”

So, how’s that billion dollar lettuce workin’ for ya?
It’s easy to engage in hyperbole about $10 per head lettuce, when you’re a politician hiding billions in lettuce in a budget that taxpayers can’t see.
Kudos for Antonovich, the lone voice of reason on Lalaland. He knows his votes don’t come from the Hollywood Hills or South Central. And, unlike the rest of the GOP, he doesn’t pander to them.

“Global Warming”?: Michigan Crops Delayed by Abnormal Cold

By Debbie Schlussel
I love shopping for fresh produce at local farmers markets. But a number of crops–particularly berries–are late, this year. And here’s why.
Hmmm . . . does this sound like “global warming” to you?:

A cooler than normal spring has delayed Michigan’s fruit crop development by a couple of weeks, but local growers say they are expecting a full, healthy crop of strawberries, blueberries, cherries and other fruit later this summer. . . .
“(The harvest is) going to be later than it normally would be,” said Bob Tritten, district fruit educator for Michigan State University Extension. “Early-growing fruit like strawberries and sweet cherries will be most affected.”

globalwarminghoax.jpg

Strawberries are being harvested now at some farms — about a week later than usual — and sweet cherries are also a few days behind the July 1 harvest date.
“This year, Mother Nature has not been as kind as she has been in the past couple years,” when the harvest has been early, he said. “It’s really more of an inconvenience.”
The full effect of the colder weather on the fruit crop won’t be known for another three to four weeks, Tritten added. . . .
While the weather has been consistently cooler this spring, severe cold snaps haven’t been as bad as last year and didn’t hit when the fruit was vulnerable, said Ken Nye, a commodities specialist for the Michigan Farm Bureau. Consistently cool weather delays fruit budding but does not permanently damage the plants. When temperatures warm up early in the spring — like they did last year — the buds are killed by spring frost. . . .
Although cold weather has delayed growth, the fact that temperatures never dropped below freezing should mean that most of the crop will survive.
The average temperatures in southeastern Michigan last week hit a high of 81 and a low of 44. That’s 4 degrees lower than normal. May was consistently between 1 and 4 degrees cooler than usual, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The 20 acres of strawberries at Paul Blake’s three farms in Armada and Almont are running about a week behind schedule, but the crop is plentiful, he said. He expects his 10 acres of raspberries and 4 acres of cherries to be ready “right on time” for a Fourth of July harvest.
The crew scrambled to protect the berries from frost eight nights this summer, he said, but the fruit wasn’t damaged, and he expects a healthy crop. . . .
Dennis Hazen’s 14 acres of blueberries in Howell took longer to grow this summer, but it’s a healthy crop, he said. His plums and red and black raspberries are unscathed, too. Last year, Hazen’s Blueberry Farm lost all 3 acres of peaches, 2 acres of cherries and 1 1/2 acres of plums to hailstorms and spring frost.
Grocery shoppers haven’t seen much Michigan fruit on the shelves until now.

(Emphasis added.)
So, since there’s apparently “global cooling” now, I guess we should reverse the advice of the faddish sky-is-falling scientists and use as much energy as possible. Right?
Either way, it’s pretty clear that the global warming stuff is bunk. At least here in Michigan, we’ve had two abnormally cold spring seasons in a row.
I see a trend (the same way the global warming nuts see a trend in the other direction based on tiny erratic changes).

“Hung” Joke of the Day: Star-Struck Michigan Taxpayers Thrilled by Gigolo Show Their Taxes Subsidize

By Debbie Schlussel
I can’t say I’m stunned by the high level of star-struck stupidity of Michigan taxpayers, who don’t mind that they’re subsidizing Hollywood garbage with their taxes, to the tune of millions and 42%.
As you may know, Michigan for the last year or so has had a tax subsidy of movies and tv shows shot in Michigan, which is simply ridiculous. Businesses and individual taxpayers that are struggling to survive are subsidizing Hollywood gazillionaires in exchange for a few sightings of Drew Barrymore, a glimpse of Rob Schneider, and some schlocky temporary jobs as extras that don’t pay much.
The shows and movies are completely tax-exempt for the portions they shoot, edit, etc. in Michigan and they get a refund of 42% of all costs. It’s obscene.

donlizpiggotthung.jpg

hung.jpg

Starstruck West Bloomfield, Michigan Residents Don & Liz Piggott:

Awestruck by Gigolo Penis Size Show Shot in Their Neighborhood

But what’s really funny is the level of bulldung some people in my area are feeding themselves. Take the people of a West Bloomfield, Michigan neighborhood where “Hung,” a new HBO series, is being shot. West Bloomfield, FYI, is a swanky, upper middle-class city mostly populated by Jews and Chaldeans (Iraqi Catholics). I ran for the Michigan House of Representatives from there.
Hung” is about a former star athlete and coach who works as a male prostitute, and–as you can guess–the title of the show refers to his large penis size. (The show begins on June 28th at 10:00 p.m.)
But the lascivious, lewd, low-class nature of the show doesn’t bother the West Bloomfield residents where the show is being shot. In fact, they think it’s cool. Vulgar is the new cool, especially for those who are aging and believe that holding onto your decency makes you uncool and feeling old.
And, in that vein, here’s my favorite part of the story:

“He’s a male escort?” asked neighbor Nancy Marlin, who lives on nearby Bunker Avenue. “OK …”
But as risque as the plot may be, several residents and local officials say they don’t have a problem with it — so long as it’s tastefully done — and are excited about the community’s moment in the spotlight.

(Emphasis added.)
“Tastefully done”? Hello . . .? It’s a show about a gigolo and the title is “Hung”–again, that’s referring to his big penis. There just can’t be anything tasteful about it. That’s like saying, “Herpes and crabs . . . tastefully done.” Or “A bearded lady . . . beautifully portrayed.”
Sorry, people, but “Idiocracy” is not our future. It’s our here and now.
It’s like these Michigan people are so desperate for a taste of Hollywood, they’re starting to spew the same BS Hollywood people do when they talk about this stuff. Like Sharon Stone talking about her crotch shot in “Basic Instinct”: “Well, it was tastefully done.” Or, like everyone in Hollywood who does nude shots and naked sex scenes and–unlike the ex-Miss California–doesn’t blame it on the wind and the photographer she hired: “Well, that scene of me in explicit sexual positions and frontal nudity . . . it was a necessary part of the plot and it was tastefully done.
I just have to laugh.
Here’s another money shot, er . . . quote:

Supervisor Michelle Economou Ureste said producers did make a “concerted effort” to work with township and school officials on the nude scene in the opening credits so it wasn’t filmed when kids would be around.

Well, thank Heaven for small favors. If you have to worry about the kids seeing naked people tramping through the neighborhood, that should be a hint.
West Bloomfield, Michigan: First, it was the home of Jewish and Chaldean American Princesses. Next, the porn capital of the world.
Also hilarious is that the people in this neighborhood are rallying around the gigolo show, saying it’s made them closer.

Nanette Nawrot said the filming has brought the neighborhood together. Her house is shown in the opening credits in which Jane walks by a variety of places, shedding item after item of clothing, until he jumps nude into the lake.
“All the neighbors were gathering around for filming,” she said. “I got to meet all kinds of people from my area.”

She needs a gigolo to walk by her house for her to get to know her neighbors. Nice statement on America’s neighborly relations in the year 2009.
But the most laughable thing about this is not that it’s untasteful and that their comments justifying it and gushing over it are BS.
No, the most laughable part–the most obscene part–is that Michigan taxpayers are subsidizing the show, willingly opening their wallets, as their state continues to collapse, in need of real industry, not Hollywood fair tales or fantasies about penises of gigolos.
Ironically, the tag line for “Hung” is, “It’s Hard to Make an Indecent Living.” But that’s not true in Michigan. If you’re here from Hollywood, it’s actually pretty easy. And you don’t even have to walk Eight Mile in a sequined tube top and stripper shoes to do it. Just put your hand out to the Legislature, which passed this indecent subsidy and flat-out pay-off.
Yup, a show about a prostitute is probably the best metaphor for what Michigan taxpayers are doing for the pimp that is Hollywood. And they are definitely getting pimped.
Sadly, when they get “hung” it’ll be by a rope, not like a horse.
***
Watch the “Hung” trailer, and you’ll see what I mean. Sadly, Deuce Bigalow’s gone “mainstream.”
